Incentives to stay in a server

(OdinTGE) #1

I’m not sure what the reason is but after nearly every game I play the vast majority of the players leave. I understand when people leave after getting stomped but that’s not the issue. I see winners and losers leaving and I just don’t understand why. I feel like there should be some small incentive for people to stick around. Going to the main menu after every game is really annoying.

The games where you see both winners and losers leaving are probably because those people are just done playing for the time being. Not everyone plays all day every day, they might play 2-3 games then take a break for a few hours.

(OdinTGE) #3

I see this behavior after 90% of matches. Not everybody is “just done playing” after every single game.

(Temporary) #4

They may have picked up cases they wish to open, don’t want to play with the same people, don’t want to roflstomp the opposing team, real world commitments etc. regardless of the reason the game is theirs to play however they choose.

Giving players a reason to stay in servers seems silly not to mention it’ll create problems when they get disconnected from a server against their will thereby lose the benefit.

(Ghosthree3) #5

I see no problem with people leaving servers as long as they go find another server. It’s like a server wide shuffle system.

(Dirmagnos) #6

Rather often people are not quitting voluntarily, but are disconnected due to server connection issues.

(Ghosthree3) #7

From what the people I’m playing with tell me that issues affects everyone, server just shits itself and everyone disconnects.

(Szakalot) #8

this used to be an issue, but shouldnt anymore.

Agreed. There are a number of issues why ‘some’ players leave the game. Afterwards a bunch of leavers follow, abandoning the ‘sinking’ ship. This is very much an issue of mentality (i leave cause everybody leaves), and makes games impossible to balance (large % of games starts with <50% of server size).

A small $$$ incentive to remain on one server is a great idea, would also help the community grow, when players get to know each other better.

Happened two days ago.

i will definitely agree it happens more than what you would expect the normal is, the mission system probably doesnt help but i dont want to even suggest changing that as it suits me to a tee.

then you have all the normal reasons people go, then you have teams leaving when they cant jump to one side and roflstomp pubs. you have people that see the same top 4 back on the same side after a shuffle, they leave to avoid wasting there time in a pointless one sided massacre. hell had one really experieced and good level 40 on the server i was in and everyone else like me was sub 10 he was just a shark in the fish pond and at the end of every round the side facing him next just emptied, and a team only has to be 2-3 down and he sinking ship mentality comes in hard.

maybe you cans low it down , not letting people swap sides after a team shuffle , a small gold incentive but i think what the situation needs is an actual matchmaking system but for that to work fully would mean loosing the server browser and i dont see that being popular at all.

(watsyurdeal) #11

They could do that…but it wouldn’t stop me personally, I try to take a break each hour.

(Old Man) #12

I wonder it has anything to do with the fact you CAN NOT open cases from the game lobby. A silly small thing, but I personally left some servers because of that reason.

(Ghosthree3) #13

Cases rarely have anything you immediately want anyway. I think most people would eventually stop quiting every game and just let them build up during a session before opening them.

Personally I’d leave them until I had like 100 if there was an open all button.

(Dirmagnos) #14

Just make earnings reduced by 20% for 3 consecutive games if player left midmatch. Effect stacks.

(Szakalot) #15

this isnt what we are discussing here. We are talking about people leaving a server at the end of game, to go on another server.

Regardless, punishing people for leaving a casual game midmatch is a terrible idea.

(OdinTGE) #16

Allowing one problem to continue because the solution might involve a downside that only comes up because of another unrelated problem. Yes. That is the way forward.

A couple people mentioned the server hopping being a way of shuffling or avoiding one team stomping another over and over. Both of these are fairly invalid considering the game already auto-shuffles after every match.

Somebody also mentioned that they’d still leave because they like to take a break every hour or so. Fine. That’s healthy. Matches don’t take an hour though so people like you aren’t really what I’m seeing. If every match took an hour it would absolutely be expected that everybody would take off when they were done.

That person also pointed out that if there was an incentive as I suggested it wouldn’t stop them from taking their break. Exactly. I’m not suggesting a system that forces people to stay on or they lose everything. I’m just suggesting a small boost of some sort to suggest to people that if they’re still going to be playing, they shouldn’t bother going all the way out to main menu to do it.

(D.C.V.) #17

This is really frustrating and it really does happen 90% of the time… There should be an incentive, like giving 2% bonus XP for every consecutive match, up to a bonus of 10%. Or give out an extra case after 5 consecutive games. This way people would think twice before leaving.

(Amerika) #18

Many people leave because they got cases and wanted to open them instantly. Almost all of my friends do this despite servers getting filled up forcing me to have to leave if we want to play together. It’s pretty dumb. SD has already said they are most likely going to add the ability to open cases while you’re on server so you don’t need to leave which will solve a lot of that particular issue.

(Impeccable Lemon) #19

I leave to open cases, yes. And to clear out the notifications when I complete missions/see what new ones popped up. If there was some small, stacking bonus to credits earned for staying on the same server I wouldn’t mind.

(Daergar) #20

As long as the missions include “play X matches as Y” and “play X matches of obj/sw”, this will happen.

I do it myself; far faster to leave right after the match ends and join a server already a bit into the round.

It would help if we actually got a bonus for winning a public match instead of the “we’re all winners, everyone gets a trophy”-mentality when it comes to rewards. I’d be far more inclined to stick with the random players who just showed that they knew how to play.
