In-Game Currency - Cost of Unlocks TOO high?

(derps) #1

Idk, i dont see many complaints. But the time dedication to unlock a single class is insane!
Barring buying class unlocks flat out, unlock them all for MORE than a full cost triple A game (that doesnt include ANY extra loadouts or cosmetics)… the ingame minimum is 30k credits and 50k for the next higher class. 15 min games, an average player is lucky to break 150 credits reward. But lets be generous and assume he got 150.

thats 600 credits an hour NOT counting all the downtime & countdowns. That requires 50++ hours for a single 30k ingame character unlock, and 83++ hours for the 50k credits unlock. HOLY HELL! Nearly 100 hours after all is said and done for ONE unlock! Jeeeezuz. I new Nexon had a bad reputation for their micro transaction models, but i hate to see it tarnish this game’s momentum from attracting new players. So about 650-700 hours to unlock all non default classes…

I have played like 60 hours of the alpha, and 35 ish for the beta. I cannot forsee playing that much time again just for one class… idk. i love the gameplay mechanics, and action pace… but dear god the grind is nearing MMO levels… may as well go play Planetside 2 for that level of grind… Let’s not mention the fact that outside of default loadouts, 1/4 cases will give you loadouts that you cannot even use due to the hefty hour grind locking characters…

TL; DR - Anyone else have issues with the extraordinary amount of hours required for a single character unlock just to use a load out from the multitude of cases that you got but cannot use?

Do your missions. You’ll earn credits much faster.

(umberInlet) #3

The grind for credits was improved before Open Beta. Be happy that they are like this now. Anyways, finish your First Objective/Stopwatch/Win of the day and do your 3hr missions. You’ll get more credits that way.

(derps) #4

I do them daily. it saves a few hours sure. out of nearly 100 for a 50 credit unlock, it barely helps.

(derps) #5

Wow, ok so yall think that grind is just dandy… “missions” etc barely help.
As i said, i been around since alpha, even back when it was still Extraction… i have seen all the iterations of grind presented, Nexon just making it hard for me to want to stick around.

I guess if im honestly in the minority…

(Rhyno) #6

It used to be much worse. Currently it isn’t even that bad.

I agree it’s still a bit of a grind but for the most part you were spoiled in alpha. Having all mercs and all the cases in the world to buy with XP was a dream.

I hope they continue to raise the credit output but it is significantly better than it was in closed beta.

speaking as someone who only started playing a few days ago i dont find it too bad.
if your going purely free its going to be a grind but what do you expect the guys got to eat after all. i bought the starter pack and one loadout for aura , then unlocked rhino with credits and i feel im in a decent place.

i do like the low cooldown on missions , means i can play for a bit and clear a set then im free to take a break for a bit and come back to a new set or keep on playing.

i really dont like the whole free to play misnomer. no game can really be free people need to get paid at the end of the day and if you have more the pay what you want attitude it feels better. you can either play a lot for free in which case your adding to player pop as your payment or you can chip in with some cash.

aura and skyhammer are good base characters and we do get 2 on rotation.

one thing would like is if they gave us free 5 games with each merc so we can see which ones we actually like before buying. but i guess with time the rotation will help out there.

So you noticed that F2P is usually way worse for players than a full-priced game? Good job. Alas, I like the game. I would really like to not play that f2p cancer, but I’m weak.

People with a lot of spare time easily gather 50k. Based solely on observing how much I could gain during a gaming weekend and a few shortened workdays, so completely subjective.

Employed people will less spare time will be able to spend ten euro/whatever on a character, as well as buying the starter pack, to get instant gratification. Not to mention I value working half an hour over grinding for days.

Base selection of mercs are good. Roster rotation gives everyone some flavor and a taste.

I prefer this model over restricting the number of players by having the game cost money up front. And there is exactly zero pay to win in DB; it’s f2p done right, even with our currently limited options.

Sure, it would be great if the entire game was free, or credits rained down so you could unlock everything by pure playtime in a matter of days. Except how would that turn out?

Balanced grind is important, but I rather see it set high than low for games that have a fair monetization model.

50 hours? If you do your missions daily, you should be averaging something like 3.5K per 1.5 hours of play, and unlock 50K mercs in roughly 14 days ( or 21 hours ).

If anything should be done, it’d probably be adding an engineer to the mercs you start with. It is strange that you can’t play one of the most important roles right off the bat, unless they’re on free rotation. Unless there’s a guaranteed engineer on rotation - I actually haven’t noticed if there is.

(Ardez1) #12

The free merc rotation will be expanding to three mercs in the next rotation. Rhino, Sawbonez and Fragger.

I think the grind is in a good place for open beta right now. It isn’t as grindy as it was and it certainly isn’t as grindy as many other games. For being a Nexon published game, I am very impressed by the current rate of credit earn and the monetization not turning p2w.

(Backuplight) #13

I’m happier with the credit gain right now, though my issue is more that the price of mercs is still too high (£8 for 50k?!) that I don’t even consider it an option. All my credits are now getting saved towards new mercs instead of playing with more loadouts like I want to. If the mercs were more reasonably priced, I’d pay for the ones I want and use my credits to buy cases/trade ups.

(Runeforce) #14

It takes about 26 hours, over a period of 54 hours, to unlock a 50k merc, and less the more casual you are, but over a longer period.

should be even less time, depending on how much you play.

1.5k for missions every 3 hours, plus 750 for first stopwatch/objective/win

If you play another set of missions, thats another 1.5k.

I’d say on average a mission takes 60min to complete; if you have luck overlap you can log in twice a day for an hour for almost 5k $

In the end, 20h gameplay will easily give you a new merc.

Plus free rotation, so eventually you can play all of them for free,w tihout any grind.

(SchwaD) #16

I havent checked it the last days. But I think since the credit boosts its more or less ok the amount of credits you earn.

Having more mercs doesn’t makes you stronger and its still a free2play game and the developers want to earn something.

The only problem I see at the moment are the overpriced real money prices. I prefer to play and earn credits instead of investing 10 € for just one merc or 5 € for just one elite case with a random output…

Don’t get it how they will earn money with that prices

(APRenpsy) #17

Trust us dude it was worst, way worst before T.T

(capriciousParsely) #18

They should IMO focus on creating more flavours to the mercs; skins, weapon skins, voice packs, unusual hats like tf2 (lol) and just give the mercs for free. They know how much money TF2 brings in with just cosmetics. I think that would be enough. But I also know that the community isn’t big enough ATM to make that enough of economical support. Maybe in the future.

(reliableTortoise) #19

why would u even be buying mercs… u get a ton of them in cases when u complete games… so far the only money i have spent is when i trade up…

(Szakalot) #20

are you trolling?
