Impressions On Test Release

First of all, let me thank Splash Damage for making this game for us… free of charge. Now all I wanted to do hear was to point out some things that I would like to see fixed.

  1. Playing the Test I noticed extreme lag, you probobly already know this, but please take care of the lag.

  2. The cannon on the tank looks awefully small, any chance of lenghtening it?

  3. Hum… Well… pretty much I can’t think of any more problems… mostly because the lag is hempering on EVERYTHING.

Lasting Impresions: Although not the ET I was expecting, still a very great game. For all of you that will play ET, be assured you may see me in the server. Interface is AWESOME, and so is the limbo menu. It seems you got some facial expresions going, I LOVE IT!! And for those of you complaining about SMG rate of fire, screw it, I love it. The voice chats are not what I was expecting either, but i’ll get used to them, hell i’ve been playing for an hour and its already sunk in. And I love the ending music/screen. You get to check stats, (Heh i got best accuracy on my first game!), and chat while you wait for next game to start.

But honestly SD, I hope your not planing on hanging us out to dry on the full release. All I’m asking is give a few patches to fix things up a little, and sit back and watch the community grow.

Also… I want a response to this lag situation, EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING!! EVEN ME!!

Look at the My feelings about ET beta Thread. Thats, what i think too. When i want to play MoH, i play MoH, and when i want to play BF1942, i buy it and play it.
I’m a RtCW MP Player from the first testdemo, but ET has nothing to do with RtCW. I’m totally disappointed with the style of gameplay, the voices…god in heaven i hope you have not paid for that shit.
I can say you, you can’t beat any current mp game with this crappy thing.
IMHO Activision and id should cancel the whole ET thing.
Now i know, why they do not charge any money. I wouldn’t pay any cent for it, and others won’t do it too. All ppl i talked to, wanna play RtCW MP, not ET. Who should play ET ? MoH Gamers ? BF1942 Players ? Counter-Strike Fans ? :eek3:

Yep, u r right! And all my friend (wolf maniacs) told me the same! We donnt want play MOHAA shit, if we want, we buy it!! We wanna wolf! The shooting rates is the same shit as Mohaa and BF 42… I am very disapointed! :(( Back to Rtcw and I will wait for Wolf Tactics… Its shame, ET looks great, many good improvements, but that damned shooting :frowning:

If people describe a lagfeeling this can be cause by two things:

  1. you are playing on a Chinese server

  2. Your fps is low (which technically, is not lag). Please do /cg_drawfps in console and tell what you see. If your fps is low you need to tweak a bit.

The new shooting rates own, makes the game so much more fun.

Personally I too dislike the new thompson and mp40 guns, seems long aim shooting is no fun anymore. The whole of aiming etc seems a lot less reliable to me, and ducking doesn’t seem to help that much either. Big bummer. Also the sniper rifles i find shooting too slow (bullets seem to go way slower ?), but it’s really the mp40 and Thompson guns that get to me.

For the rest pretty neat, maybe a bit stricter on the mines, and we have to wait to see how the game’s doing in regular public play, since there are a lot of new (and some pretty ‘heavy’) weapons out there. Takes some getting used to, but from mohaa, sof2 and bf1942 experience I know I’ll never find the mp40 and thomspon that good anymore :frowning: Hope there will be many many maany comments like this so that the developers change it back for the full game :wink:

Right, some more bugs:

  • the chatting, VERY annoying. Pressing esc does not cancel your chat, irritating as hell. I dont wanna press cancel with my mouse or something, too much work that is. Sometimes I have to like press enter 3 times before he submits the chat also, allthough it is possible that is my keyboard :wink:

  • it happens quite a bit that i have to try several times before I can actually hold a mg42. One time it works from a certain position, other time it doesn’t, very weird. And it’s not only the tank mg42.

  • most annoying thing atm is that I (and many players it seems) respawn to spectator almost constantly. on a busy server this causes a lot of trouble with changing teams (sometimes the bloody thing just won’t join, even if there’s room), becuz it happens a lot you can’t rejoin the team you were just in. Sucks bigtime, some players have this problem (a lot of them it seems), some just don’t, so it might be something clientside, anyone can help me on this one ?

i found the map very immersive, just floating around as spectator. the caves are beautiful :eek: , pld whoever built those :clap: . the menus are great too, nice gfx and sounds, cant wait to play against other ppl :drink:

I totally agree, the new rate of fire and weapon damage is just horrible, and overall much less fun for a majority of people. This game is about fun and skill, and how can a elephant like smg be any fun for people used to high skilled FPS? On most forums I went to, people HATED this new rate of fire, but not just because it was different. The new smg sounds aren’t that great either, they lack of punch and energy.
The voices are OK in general, but the axis “medic” makes me want to cry. When it is spammed over and over again this becomes quite hard to stand.
The needed changes are so simple to fix it would be plain foolish not to do so. Listen to what the majority of people say but do not let this go without more testing. Wolf was, and still is a MP success for a reason. Et is supposed to be an expansion. If it feels that different, success is not guaranteed far from it. It can even be argued that you removed the sparkle of originality and fun that Wolf had.Why not just make the damage and rof as they were before (after so many patches the balance was perfect)- it’s so simple and no one will complain. Even such a simple thing as 2 weapons could make ET unsuccessful. The majority of the people I know will not be playing ET if it stay as it is.
One last thing : Why did you implement recoil for PISTOLS but not for smgs? Aren’t the pistols already underpowered? Why make it even harder to use them while SMG’s can fire without pause and do not have to adapt? It would be wise either to : -remove the recoil altogether
or - implement it for every weapon

played a bit more and the weapon rates are just driving me up the walls. its like driving a car whith damaged steering system. If this was done in behalf of modem players, to give them time to react - look at that creepin CS which has a horrible network code that no modem player can play it, but still its the MOST POPULAR ONLINE game atm. recoil for pistols is nice idea, just needed to make SMG’s with recoil as well and you would get rid of those so called mp40 snipers. If this was done to balance sten - then why just not to give a faulty weapon some tune up instead of spoiling great ones? Weapon has to be a weapon - imagine any of FPS game playing only with a weakest weapons - like running in q3 with a standard SMG etc. this is fun for 5-10 minutes, then it becomes just dumb and boring. if the weapons were done this way to make them realistic ww2 guns, just forget about games and go write some history books.

some little bugs that i noticed:

  1. when using r_mode -1 with customheight and customwidth the map loading screen is just pure black, while connecting to a server

  2. once when i was shot during the time of dressing in enemies team covert oops closes, i somehow kept his uniform after the death and could not get no more to limbo menu in no way. had to join spec and then again team, to be able to continue playing

Bravo Bravo ! :drink: Well said I couldn’t have put it better. I think that SD have got big balls to have taken on this project. All the people I speak to constantly complain about the voices etc and also the LAG !!!
I think the marketing should have been something along the lines like…“Coming soon a new game in genre of WW2” but to have it asociated with “MY PRECIOUS” is a freaking sin!!! :angry:

Great game, but heres a few constuctive criticisms:

Lag. I think this is more to do with the framrate. My ping is stable (10- 40). So this is the main issue that needs to be addressed.

V_says. Theres too many of them, and they sound quite lame (no offence). Can you not implement the old wolenstein ones, and maybe add a couple more?

Team/ Global chat. Its annoying that you have to select ‘send’ or ‘cancel’. I prefer the rtcw style…

Theres also a small delay after you kill someone. For example if you shoot someone it will say ‘XXXXX was killed by XXXXX’ a few seconds after you killed them. I know its only a small detail but its kinda worth fixing.

I wanted to add that the death animations aren’t satisfying at all. People get shot, die and then just fall like … well pillars. Hope this can be fixed as well.

here’s what I think could be improved:

> Vsays - not just sound wise but also keys are all messed up. Needs normal wolfy keys. Eg v41 for “Yes” becuase that’s what EVERYONE is used to. Why change them in the first place?
> Feels too much like MOHAA. Jumping and even the sounds of a water canister seem totally MOH influenced rather than wolf influenced. It’s not as fast and smooth as wolfy.
> FPS seems painfully bad for everyone. I could only muster around 40fps generally and thats with low graphic settings and a pretty good PC :confused:
> Rate of Fire. Obviously the reason for a slow ROF for smgs is becuase of the mobile mg - the mobile mg needs to have twice the rate of fire of the smgs because otherwise it’d be rendered useless - so it’s all about relativity. Maybe just make the mobile mg more ACCURATE rather than have a better ROF and put ROFs up for all weapons again. It’d be so much more smoother and fun.

There’s a few other things I can’t think of right now but other than that I’d say that as a free game it’s excellent. You couldn’t hope for more when it’s free tbh. So thanks to all concerned :slight_smile:

Another thing is, whenever i take in my config with the exec command it isn’t taken right. Many things missing.
And it forget my profile. Whenever i start the game, i must type in my name new and have the standard layout. I’m not playing with WASD Layout, so it pisses me really off. All my shortcuts for voice chats are gone…and so on.

Yep I’m getting some bad jerky movement of players. I’m guessing SD are well aware of this. As for people suggesting this is FPS related - I was in an area of the map where my fps was 90 and the players were still jerking about.

I don’t get this, the game uses RTCW engine which was fine, so why do we get this odd effect?

Other than this I think ET is AB FAB!! Good job guys…dunno what these whiners are going on about gun fire rates! There’s more to a game than the rate your gun fires at!!!

Im sure someone like Warwitch would love to do the voices for ET!, he has an interesting Axis and Allies accent :drink:
