I really don’t see how quake and cs are brain dead shooters. I find Dirty Bomb to require a lot less thinking than they do.

(XavienX) #104

still dont have a key -.-

Games with the same objective map, after map, after map is hardly evolving… and pretty boring if you ask me… and not very challenging. RTCW/ET/Brink/DB is a little more challenging. So yes I would say that that CS styled game play, BF, COD etc is pretty braindead…

(nudels) #106

I would really like some more Variation in DB too, so far there are no bridges to blow or build and the objectives has been pretty simple, escort a EV, and/or steal a container… (that is the same model regardless if the object is a drug sample or an explosive).

I sacrificed a goat and hoped that it would bring the game back online.

It didn’t work.

sure cod doesn’t require much thinking, I agree there, but there’s no way that you could learn to duel in quake as fast as you could learn to play dirty bomb. Quake duel strategy has a lot more depth than dirty bomb does. CS doesn’t require as much thought as quake, but I’d still say it requires a lot more than DB.

Games with the same objective map, after map, after map is hardly evolving

The maps completely change the way CS and quake are played. Duelling on aerowalk is nothing like duelling on blood run or campgrounds. Cache strats are nothing like nuke strats. Sure, the objectives in DB change on every map, but they are still very similar, and so far I don’t feel like there’s as much strategy going into that as there is into quake, it’s mostly about holding down certain chokepoints/objectives, which anyone with half a brain can do decently on their first day of playing - good luck duelling in quake decently in just a day (I’d say DB is probably close to CS in terms of depth of strategy)

(KoolGam3rsHQ) #110

okay dangggg my B no TDM lol

i just want this game to hurry and become live AGAIN!!! Cmon santa! I’ve been NICEEE!

“Dept and strategy like CS”, are you High? ok we are gonna defuse or plant a bomb either on A or on B. Q: How many strategies do you need? A: one… defuse or plant… BF, take XX flags inside this area. Q: How many strategies do you need? A: one, witch flag do we take first.

Qukaelive get as many frags as possible in XX minutes. Q: how many strategies do you need? A: one, kill as many as possible in XX minutes. CTF, Q: how many strategies do you need? A: one, deliver or defend the flag…

These games has one thing in common, only one type of objective (2 at best) in different environments… Pretty far from RTCW/ET/DB, that takes a lot more planning and involves a lot more classes/mercs. I don´t even get why BF has classes, the have no meaning to the game at all (you actually don’t need them to finish the objective, win the map)…

In CS/BF/COD you need one strategy with different variations depending on the map. In RTCW/ET/DB styled games you need different strategies for every map, not just variation on one strategy. You actually need different classes to finish the objective, In BF you can all be medics and still win the game. Try that on Goldrush in ET or any other RTCW or ET map.

To even compare the games is an insult to RTCW… ignorant and stuped…

(Kroad) #113

That’s more choice than you get in DB, where the only time you can choose which objective you want to complete is on the last phase of terminal, where you have a choice of container A and B that are right next to each other. You don’t even need to commit to one of them, you can just do both.
As for every other objective in DB, there is no choice.

In CS, you have to manage an economy, which can involve making risky plays that will possibly lose you multiple rounds, while in DB risky plays are a lot less risky due to the fact that it’ll take you 20 seconds to respawn at most.

This would be accurate if duels were just 1v1 ca on a completely flat map.
There’s a reason that quake’s top aimers aren’t the ones winning all the tournaments. To succeed in ql duel, you have to:
-keep track of item spawn times
-Choose what items you want to go for
-Try and make the items spawn time better for you by delaying them
-Predict the enemy’s position: the items he’ll go for, the paths he’ll take, etc
-Try and work out exactly when your enemy took an item so you can time it and get it yourself
-Keep track of the enemy’s health, armour and weapons
-Try to prevent the enemy from knowing your position
_With all the information you’ve accumulated, choose when and where you want to attack the enemy
-Once the enemy is dead, try and guess where he spawned
-probably more stuff that I’ve forgotten

Meanwhile, all you have to do in Dirty Bomb is choose your classes and positions in order to play an objective as fast as possible.

No one has said anything about COD, BF and quake ctf requiring more strategy than DB. I’ve only mentioned quake duels and cs.

It’s not about having as many objectives as possible. DB objectives aren’t complicated to achieve, they’re different on each map and so have to be played differently, just like objectives in quake and cs all also have to be played differently.

I’m not saying that DB is a bad game, or that it requires no strategy. I enjoy DB a lot more than I do quake or cs, and I do enjoy DB strategy more than quake’s and cs’s, even though DB requires less strategy than cs and is miles away from quake duel’s depth.

(Rimmorn) #114

@Nudels So… you oversimplified game modes in games you consider inferior, that doesn’t exactly help the point you’re trying to make. DB can be summed up in similar way: “Push forward by doing X” or if you’re on the other side “Defend”.

You’re comparing a more advanced domination mode to destroy objective mode, those are VERY different. Sure you can go with only medics in BF but good luck when a tank rolls in ( + back when the BF was any good maps were asymmetrical, only one side had a tank etc). On the other hand if you limit RTCW/ET/DB to engineers… that doesn’t change much, you can kill everyone you encounter, can stop/repair the EV, can plant/defuse, can deliver objectives… what was your point again?

(imPuls3) #115

So any word/rumor on return? This time next week will be a month. A teaser of what to come would be most tantalizing.

(PyroTaze) #116

I signed up before that date in January and didn’t get anything? When is the next phase?

(Steve Martin) #117

I disagree.

#1 issue for me is people who don’t know what they are doing and/or talking about.

edit: Same as in life

(MissMurder) #118

You will get the key once the next phase starts. Which is gonna be soon. Really soon.
