I'm gonna love Casual Matchmaking :D

Two games with leavers, one ended up like this very quick. Enemies tried to even up, but they couldn’t. I think they should have this possibility.

Since it’s a pub I don’t believe it would be unreasonable for the system to allow players to choose to forfeit early (just like ranked) or to offer up a shuffle.

(BerylRdm) #3

Forfiting won’t change much. I don’t want to start over and over again only because one guy decided to leave, so another one decided to leave too… Autobalancing would be a very good idea. But, to be honest, as for now, I’m not convinced that cmm itself is a good idea. I fear that it may kill this game.

you can already vote surrender after the first 3 mins @Amerika

Weird. I didn’t get the option in one of my matches when multiple people left on the other team. That could be a bug as well. I have the video for it so maybe I should go check and see if it was just a system message.

(Mrarauzz) #6

I haven’t even tried it yet. It always ends before I can play it, classic SD.

This was my huge concern in regards to removing shuffle and locking teams. Even if there is a surrender option it still means that if you do surrender every time someone rage quits, there’s going to be so much down time now, so I too feel it might kill the game.

The thing I enjoy most about Dirty Bomb are the active servers and the fact you can always find a game instantly. There’s little to no waiting time and stuffing around for public games, which is the way it should be. I have a feeling matchmaking is going to kill the player base, thus matchmaking games will have long queue times, thus people will get bored and move to something else.

That poll I made didn’t exactly get a lot of support for the current way they’re planning on doing things. Something like 9 people thought that locking teams was a good idea and 50 people said it was a bad idea, but I have a feeling regardless of how the public feel about it they’re going to do it their way any way

@Dox Beat me to the punch with that link, but in all seriousness, I don’t like the idea that games get locked. Unless the enemy team is completely clueless and has horrible aim, then any time a player drops from a game, that team is pretty much guaranteed a loss. Losing from a fair and balanced game is still fun. Losing because they have twice as many people as you do is not.

(doxjq) #9

I’m fairly certain they’re adding penalties to try and stop people from rage quitting.

What concerns me more is that they actually think penalties will stop rage quitters.

Unless they change the way the system works, they’re digging themselves an early grave.

This.

Oh, I didn’t want to make a thread for this so I’ll throw this in here. For those who didn’t get to play in the test there is a new end game screen. You can see what it looks like here.

It definitely looks like a work in progress but it is nice to be able to see/compare to people quickly and I love that it shows headshots hit. It definitely needs to add in character specific stats though like revives and ability kills.

(BerylRdm) #11

@Amerika Actually, you can see more, than it’s shown in your video. I remember that you can check, for example, stats like damage dealt and received. Don’t remember what else.

leaving match penalties might have to be a thing.

(Jostabeere) #13

And yet they think not allowing people to fill-up is a good idea.

(doxjq) #14

They are adding penalties for leavers when the update goes live, apparently. But you guys know as well as I do that this will not stop people leaving games if they’re being stomped.

Yeah, the main reason why people leave is they feel like they are getting stomped (whether they are or not is another thing entirely). I don’t like the fact that the penalty for people leaving will possibly end up being a ban. If you ban somebody who rage quits all it does is makes them not play DB and drives people away. Which, in some people’s viewpoints wouldn’t be a bad thing. Which I agree with as a player but as a game/business/economy it’s not a good solution.

A better solution IMO would be to put people who excessively quit out against other people who quit out constantly. Other games do it and it works well. They don’t get suspended from the game and can still play but there is a penalty that will affect them heavily. If they go 5-10 games in a row without leaving they can get out of that particular penalty box.

People could get their credit gain rate penalized for quitting but that won’t stop a lot of people since it doesn’t take that long to stop caring about credits.

Why not add in loss forgiven when someone leaves?

(Drac0rion) #17

@Black
What’s a loss going to matter in casual?

(doxjq) #18

Why not add in loss forgiven when someone leaves?[/quote]

That is exactly the opposite of his point. It makes no difference. He doesn’t care about the win/loss ratio, he is concerned about the amount of games that are either going to be abandoned because one player left, or they’ll just be a 1 sided stomp fest.

It’s public. No one with half a brain cares about win/loss, we care about a) quality of games, which is something that can no longer happen if someone rage quits and b) how often we can play undisturbed (EG not having to forfeit every second game because someone decides to leave)

Either way, there’s going to be a lot more menu /waiting time with the new system, and lots of people are not going to like it.

(acrobaticBudgie) #19

I’d like to think that what we tested last night was only the match-making part of the update. Casual games should be exactly that, so if a player drops out they can be replaced by someone in the queue or the teams are balanced by the server. Problems come in when one team is roflstomping the other and people aren’t willing to shuffle. If you’re having a good, balanced game, people won’t drop out because there’s always the possibility that you’ll turn it around.

(n-x) #20

I am not sure if drop outs are going to be such a problem:

  1. If the matchmaking is good there will be hardly any stomps, thus no rage quitting.
  2. There is still the server browser for people who just want to quickly jump into a game and maybe have to leave early.

Maybe people who drop to often from CMM games can be band from this feature for a while. They will be still able to use the server browser, though.
