IM glad to be back! need help already...

HI and im glad to be back! if you check I said I was done with ET a while back ago… I did stop playing, but now im back! ET is really a superb game that i have never paid for.

and now i need help. I am now ready to buy a video card, i am tired of getting 20 fps yaaaaaay! :banghead: i have been doing research and there are problems

  1. i have no AGP slot (agh) and it seems that all the good deals applies mostly to agp cards.
    2)cant afford to spend a lot of money for i am a simple college student who works part time :clap: :clap:

any way i have found some cards im interested in that are less than 100 usd but have one Question? Do I need dx9? Is good to get dx9 , because I can get way more bang for my buck for a lot of dx8 cards! I may buy new games but i doubt if they are dx9 is this even a problem i mean cant i still install dx9 but not have some “new” features running?? Help me clarify this and it will greatly help me narrow down my search

Any suggestions to any cards? Unfortunately it has to be pci :angry: And cheap
agh I know its hard but if you can help me I really appreciate it

newegg has this FX5700 for 99.99, should give you good fps, pci and handles directx 9

Are you sure it is your video card holding you back ? ET is very CPU and memory/bus/cache bandwidth sensitive.

In any case dx9 capability will make absolutely no difference for ET. It may make some difference for newer games, but most video cards that you find in PCI aren’t going to perform well in modern games anyway. (unless you mean PCI Express, in which case you have plenty of choices)

What kind of hardware do you have?
If you don’t have an AGP slot, I doubt you can run much/any new games anyway - unless you have a pci-express slot…

Like reyalP said, you don’t need a dx9 card for ET :slight_smile:
If you list some of your hardware, we should be able to give you better / more advice.

Yea its only pci, not pci express and yea here are my specs :slight_smile:

Windows Xp
DirectX* Version: 9.0
Physical Memory: 512 MB
Intel celeron 2.5 ghz
Processor: x86
thats about it

so I dont need DX9? because i already have some cards in mind but only support dx8 i wanna know if RTCW2 will need dx9 card, because thats probably the one really new game ill buy :clap:

2.5 w/o an agp slot ? wierd. NOT->not possible, just wierd.
Are you positive there isn’t an AGP slot ?

Well, a better video card might help you a bit, but don’t expect to suddenly get 125 fps all the time. Which video card do you currently have ?

thats the thing. ive been playing without one… i mean ive been playing with the standard one that comes with the computer… i know its crap! so thats why any decent one will do. im not an extreme gamer, i buy one game every two years (if that) and just getting a card that will help me get a smooth gameplay will do.

P.S. i Have this card in mind GeForce FX5500, i see its DX9 compatible and its for 60 bucks I may end up getting this one seeing how i dont need anything real Zazzy so all i need now is the go ahead from you guys :clap:

I’d still go for the FX5700, I have one and it gives me great fps and allows you to play BF2 as well

I, and this is just me, suspect that he is currently using a machine that uses on board graphics and has no AGP slot…My mums PC has the same thing.

Are you using a Dell computer? Since some of thier lower end machines don’t have AGP and use on board graphics.

yea thats what i said before, i dont have a video card, that its the one that comes with the comp.

and as for the mother board, good question but i really dont care about that, seeing how its a crappy one since theres no agp slot or PCIe
like i said im not an extreme gamer. I wont upgrade my comp anytime soon seeing how 2.5 ghZ and 512mb of ram does well for word processing and surfing the net :banana: and playing ET thus far. I just want a card that will at least get me smooth gameplay

i use a standard Compaq computer, everything on it is from the factory and i would get terrible fps, i just switched connection to “fastest” and i get decent fps while sacrificing screen size and detail
