I'm Back, With My Brink

(McKooza) #1

So, I’m back, if you remember me from…3 months ago?
Today I traded in Brink, along with some other games, and my PSP.
And in return I got Skyrim & Battlefield 3: Limited Edition.
Brink, to me, was lacking in too much, The storyline was terrible, Splash Damage, is, and has been one of my most loved developers for a long time, but I feel the hype wasn’t necessary, The teaser trailer, with ‘The Anger’ watching ‘The Bug’ running along is nothing like the game. I expected to get what I saw in that Trailer, And what I got was the complete opposite, I wouldnt of Pre-ordered this if I’d played it before. I also noticed that on the PS3, when you look at what your friends are doing on Brink it shown massive exaggerations of what people were actually doing, for instance, If a player was on the Menu’s it would say the player was ‘Exploring the Ark’ wich sounds awesome, like a sandbox, but they were just looking around a poorly made menu screen. Now, Creation in this game is fantasic, making weapons, and outfits was a great idea, give the guy that thought of that a raise, because I’m a huge fan of games like, Minecraft, and LittleBigPlanet, wich revolve around creation, I’m also a HUGE Shooter fan, and this was a pretty basic, linear shooter, the objective idea was ok, but felt kind bossy, sometimes I want to just point, shoot and kill, not be told what to do. In conclusion, I felt Brink’s only selling point was hype, and the parkour system was basically a animation triggered by running at an object.

Skyrim and Battlefield 3? You’re in for some quality gaming soon!

I’ve also pre-ordered both.

Keep Brinking!

(wolfnemesis75) #6

I don’t trade in games. You get robbed. Should’ve kept Brink. My two cents.

(RabidAnubis) #7

Better said like this: Don’t trade in ANY games.

They rob you and imagine if 100 years from now any game you’ve traded in is a collectors item.

(Teufel_Eldritch) #8

Buh-bye! Don’t let the doorknob hit it you where the dog should’ve bit you.

(Jimmy James) #9

So, I thought Fallout: New Vegas was complete crap (as compared to Fallout 3) and I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it. (It’s very rare that I don’t finish a single-player game.) Throbblefoot saw it through to the end however as she is just more stubborn than me. (Don’t tell her I said that!)

Now the game box sits in a corner with a hundred others collecting dust. But I’m not about to go up to the Obsidian or Bethesda forums to post a wall of text about a game that I gave up on.

Seriously McKooza, scrape the dog poop off your shoe and move on if you don’t like it, instead of just standing there and critiquing its color, odor, and texture.

And before I get rabid fanboy flames, I personally love Brink and the dog poop analogy should not be taken as a criticism of the game in any way. We’ve just had a lot of dog poop around the neighborhood recently so it’s been on my mind.

I doubt I’ll be here in 100 years.

I seriously think your post was uncalled for. People like you seem to think that your opinion on the game is the only one that matters, and that is not true. McKooza’s opinion is just as important as anyone else’s. I would even go as far as to say that its the opinion of people like him that true needs to be heard. Players like him had expectations from the advertisements that weren’t met, and because of that the player base on brink is almost none existent. so comments like his are the ones necessary in order to learn what drove players away, that way those issues can be addressed and solved. What we really don’t need here are more fanboys that keep saying ‘brink is great the way it is’ because in reality it is not. it was very lacking in several aspects, and as a paying customer i, as everyone else, have the right to have standards on the product i buy, and we also have the right to be upset that we were mislead to believe the game was more than it was.

McKooza’s stated his opinion in a very respectful and valid way, so no need to criticize it. And even tho i quoted JJ, this post applies to anyone and everyone who criticizes posts like the OP’s

(SockDog) #13

Again, I don’t see the OP being disrespectful or rude so why shouldn’t he lay out the reasons why he’s not playing the game and what he did like about it? I’d be stunned if SD doesn’t appreciate such feedback even if it’s in regards to matters that were or will be out of their control.

(zenstar) #14

Agree with this. The OP wasn’t rage quitting but stating how they felt about the game and what they expected from it. I feel this is sufficiently constructive to pass as a good criticism and discussion point.
If you disagree with his points then state why you disagree, referencing specific points and countering them.

Personally I never thought the Anger/Bug trailer was indicitive of gameplay at all. Marketing gumpf is marketing gumpf and unless it says it’s a gameplay trailer I always consider it to be a nice animation and nothing more. I also think the objectives are Brink’s main focus so if you don’t want an objective game you’re barking up the wrong tree. But the OP made some valid points and they are his opinion which he is allowed to express.

(Jimmy James) #15

Opinioned!

EDIT: I should probably make my position a little more clear. Keep it to a single thread! I’m not sure why everyone who has to post a tirade about why they quit Brink needs to create a new thread for it.

(L00fah) #16

THIS.

I hate to say it… But if people were somehow confused by the marketing, it isn’t Splash Damage’s fault. I blame the schooling system. = /
If ya catch my drift.
I’m not sure why everyone who has to post a tirade about why they quit Brink needs to create a new thread for it.
Because they are special. More special than anyone else that has said the same exact thing countless times. Because everyone will undoubtedly want to hear what they have to say because they said it.

(SockDog) #19

And yet it’s deemed necessary to enter every one of those threads and piss and whine about it? An act with virtually zero practical use and ironically only serves to expose these threads more.
