I'm always looking at the floor when running

(Smokeskin) #1

That way I don’t trigger combat intuition on enemies.

But some people now say that it only triggers when looking with ADS. That would be a surprise, seeing how often mine goes off. Has anyone tested this?

(murka) #2

Combat intuition is really a waste of points.

Saved my life plenty of times.
Guess it’s a personal thing.

(Kurnuttaja) #4

The entire ability pretty much ruins the fun from surprise combat, once you get behind they always react in like 1/2 seconds and start shooting at you. This is probably one reason why I dont see too many operatives on the field.

(zenstar) #5

You just need to learn to not aim at someone until you start firing at them. Combat intuition is only worth it before the bullets start hitting. An operative’s planned surprise attack should avoid it almost completely until it’s too late.

(Heegu) #6

Fire a bullet at somewhere randomly before you engage the enemy.

(tokamak) #7

I think the PC version could do without. What makes it so strong is it doesn’t just give you a hint that you’re being shot at, no you actually know the approximate location as well.

(zenstar) #8

If you’re actually in danger you don’t have much time to react to a planned attack though. It’s only really useful when you’re running along and someone is taking a potshot at you or if there’s a sniper trying to draw a bead.
It’s made me get my head down often enough to make me like it but I still get sliced up from a good ambush.

Hear, hear!

When I’m trucking along and get the intuition symbol, I start sliding like I’m in spring training. It has saved me from respawn countdown hell many times.

Still you have more time than when you didn’t know where you were being fired from and even less if you didn’t get any heads up at all (like it should be).

It’s great for consoles as there’s less mobility and getting the jump on someone gives you a huge advantage.

(Smokeskin) #11

That’s all great, but the only ADS triggers it Is a myth, right?

I think that we’re fragile enough in Brink to have it not make that big a difference. It’s an ability that you pay for after all. It had better have some sort of advantage and I don’t think that it’s current advantage is overpowered on PC. Life is cheap on the Ark. This ability makes it last a little bit longer.

Most of the time you should be moving as a group anyway which pretty much negates this skill. It is useful when you’re the lone spawn trying to get back to your friends though.

(tokamak) #13

On the contrary, this skill makes moving as a group less important.

(zenstar) #14

Even with this skill you’ll probably go down to an ambush (mano-a-mano) and you’ll definitely go down (barring big skill differences) if outnumbered. This means working in groups is always advantageous. All it really does is warn you when a potshot is about to happen. A proper ambush will still waste you.

Lets put it this way: 2 equally skilled & geared people meet. Whoever starts firing first will win. Even getting the warning from this skill won’t let you fire first (he’s already aiming at you. all he has to do is click while you need to spin, aquire target, aim, click) so the best it will do is let you dodge while giving you a “general” idea of where your oponent is. He has a very good idea of where you are since he’s been aiming at you the entire time. Equal skill and gear means either he wins or you escape.

That’s 2 loners. Mix in a second gunman and you should go down 75% of the time. This skill lets you dodge sometimes. Teamwork will still always be better than no teamwork…
Unless you have a sticky bomb on you… then go lone wolf it as much as you want

(zenstar) #15

I think it triggers if the gunman iss not on your radar and has his crosshairs on you. I could be wrong but that’s what the ability says and that seems about right in-game (anecdotal evidence i know, but that’s all I have to go on).

That’s shifting the goal post. Regardless of how much effect it has, it still encourages solo-play.

(zenstar) #17

Hmmm… perhaps a little bit. I will conceed that to a point. I guess that’s why it was one of the first things I got on my operative when I could (since I often try flanking with him).

But I don’t think anyone would solo on the strength of this skill alone though. If they do it’s likely that they’d solo for almost any reason (bored now runs off ooh look - a shiny penny runs off).
I think people generally learn that solo’ing doesn’t work (unless you’re in disguise) and start playing with their team more pretty quickly.

I wouldn’t say this skill is the cause of any non-teamwork related play. Maybe in some cases it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back but I’d guess those cases are few and far between.

EDIT: Shifting the goal posts: The original argument you were making is that it’s overpowered for the PC. Now you claim regardless of the effect it still promotes solo play. :stuck_out_tongue: not a major deal but the discussion has been shifting from the start

(Verticae) #18

With the current weapon spread, that’s about as accurate as saying whoever buys their tickets first, wins the lottery…

(Herandar) #19

You just passed ‘Arguing with Tokamak 101’. Congratulations.

The lesson for ‘Arguing with Tokamak 102’ is: He never concedes a point. He won’t respond to points when you are correct.

Me to, I personally think its great. Always catches out folk who think they can seek around behind the gate on Container City.
