If i would work at SD, what would i change ...

(aignetti) #21

Its my Thread and i dont want see posts like #8 and #9 … please admins delete this posts.

If you have to say something, it should be about the Topic - with reasons and not just flameposts without content.

And just to make it clear: I like the gameplay, ive played enemy territory for years and im a big sd fan. im just talking about things which im thinking of while playing brink (see the list on post #1).

So i thank StilkBratusBrad - im just trying to give kind of feedback and ideas. A extra mode for the SMART Movement (see first post of this thread) is in my eyes somethin what the devs should have think about while creating brink. atleast it was the first thing i was thinking about while i was playing. an unbinded select button for consoles was the second thing on my mind.

so please go back 2 topic and give us ideas what you would change if you were working at sd to make this game better.

(EGOMET) #22

1 add personal colors to weapons
2 add a flamethrower ( once upon a time they were so popular )
3 add fragmentation grenade
4 after you finish the campaign the story doesn’t matter so much and the location of objectives is too much known

a dynamic system to change objective on each map.

and while im playing their is another thing on my mind:

reloading a weapon you never exactly now when the relaod is done … sure you get a feeling for it with time - but anyway you never exactly know it … ok you can see it by looking on the mag display - but in a fast battle where you already have to look on a high number of things its a bit strange.
if i would work at sd i would add a option to add a sound when the reload is finished. you can turn this on/off in the option menu. it could be the same sound like when u havent enough supply.

at the moment it happens often that i dont finish the reload because i think its done, then throw a grenade and then have to reload again because it wasnt finished although it looked like the animation was done.

If i would work at SD? i would work on quake wars 2

(Tetra) #26

SD is too incompentent to even ban me. Deal with it, losers. You guys are as stupid as this video game is. You’re all probably janitors, too.

(tokamak) #27

You’re trying too hard mate.

(Je T´aime) #28

Well splash damage made brink with good core ideas definitly, pretty awsome customization, fun class system ,cool guns, good looking maps, and the best feature is the team work required, its the 1st game that i´ve play that you need to stick near your teamates in order to win and i love that.

But aside from fixing the bugs and perfomance, if i worked at splash damage i would focus more on symetrical maps where both teams had to attack and defend, the current gametypes aren´t very apealling to the masses, whats the fun of attacking in reactor if the other team have a good defense, whats the fun attacking in shipyard if the other team have a good defense etc, it can be really frustrating to be forced to attack or to defend.

For future projects…

 • PC as lead platform
 • Linux and Mac ports (!)
 • No ****ing Steam or Steamworks

(Rex) #30

I would change the attitude of the whole studio and make a new PC game in the spirit of their former games.

(Conine) #31

If I worked at Splash Damage, then I would… oh wait.
If I worked at SD I’d hand out donuts all day!

 • When do I start?
Send in your c.v. quick! Imho SD severely lacks a Dedicated Donut Dispatch Department and you sound like the man to fill that void.

Hate to say it but I think too much needs to be done in to short a time to save BRINK, I had high hopes this was going to be a huge game but it has just let down on to many areas. The whole feel of the game just feels off to me from the sounds to character movement to shooting to the whole fiddley buffing etc and I find it very disappointing SD spent so long on the game and didn’t see this for themselves.

As has been said before this game lacked beta testing big time , it could have saved this game I think the longer the game was in development and being played in house the less they had an objective opinion to help tweak things. As for the ATI issues and other major problems hardware wise , again they could have been picked up had there been a beta. On a plus side I have to say the maps imo were very well set out and designed.

Just my opinion not hating for hating sake just not feeling a game I was very very excited for.

Shouldn’t you be off programming something? -_-

(riptide) #34

Because you picture them in a sweat shop all cracked out and crazy with tons of code across 30 monitors working 24/7. Doesn’t mean that’s what it’s like.

(METRiC) #35

I’m sorry, how do you know how I picture anything?

Is sarcasm lost on some people?, I say yes

Oh dear. Devs can post here to chuckle about donuts - but won’t comment on game issues and concerns?

Fanboy or not, SD’s approach to the posters here baffles me…a SD staffer finally appears…to talk about donuts? With the servers and rooms empty, the community dwindling and hundreds of posts complaining about issues with both the game and SD’s response to them…really, ****ing donuts?

Just…damn. I can sort of understand why so many have left the boards or traded in the game, feeling that fixes weren’t coming and losing the faith.

I need to go and do something else for a while…

So what you’re saying is, SD employees should only ever post about work related stuff and aren’t actually allowed to engage in normal conversation at all? The guy has a grand total of 12 posts in the whole time he’s been here, but yeah posting = not working on anything (especially on a saturday), because in the 10 seconds it took to type that up and hit post, he single handedly could have coded every single piece of code required to make everyone happy.

It’s been said many times why the SD employees aren’t allowed to comment on issues and upcoming patches/DLC itself, but hey, i’ll leave you in your own world of ignorance with that one. But if you do have a problem with it, maybe you should speak to someone else about it.

(StillBatusBrad) #39

Irony-impaired much, Mr Dark?

A surprise, indeed, for a Jock! Won’t comment on the patronising tone, beneath you, frankly, given your posting history and evident intelligence…

This is a thinly-veiled ‘Devs please read’ post, Mr Dark - hence the irony. Of all the comments that little ‘dev-has-posted’ symbol could imply, a board awash with grumbling and discontent gets a …donut gag? In a thread about what folks would do differently if they worked at SD? Don’t you see it?

As you state, it probably took the chap in question about 10 secs to post…

It would take about the same length of time to post ‘we’re aware of the graphics issues on 360 and are working to fix them’ or ‘Bot AI issues are being addressed’. No promises made, no timelines given. And allowing about 70% of the negative threads both here and at the Beth site to dry up, leaving the constructive stuff behind.

About 10 seconds, in your own estimation. Do you get my point?

He already covered the fantasy shattering realism before you replied. You just selectively read so I figured I’d highlight it for you
