If i would work at SD, what would i change ...

(aignetti) #1

Guys what would you change in Brink, if you would work at SD.

  1. If I would work there and would be a creator of the SMART Movement, I would have made some couple of Maps for a SMART Mode - in this Mode you are playing a 1v1 without guns. Its a special mode with special maps and its about a 1v1 race, the first one who gets to the finish line is the winner. On these special Maps you have to use the Smart System to reach the Goal. At the end of each Round you can see a Replay and you are able to save it (easier to make movies/u can show your race to friends/and so on). Each map has a linear path for each player, the paths are paralel beside each other so you can exactly see where your oponent is. Each path is exactly same and has parts where you have to jump, slide and parts where you have couple of options to get throw them. I hope i explained it good and like i imagine it, my english isnt that good.
The SMART Movement is a great thing which needs an extra Mode in my eyes.

  2. I would do everything to fix actual problems. There are so many of them i will just post 1 now as example. The most important thing i would fix is: Lags. In a 8v8 only human game its awful. It feels like your playing with 5-10 FPS while your shooting. I know Lags ans FPS are some different things, but anyway it feels like the Game has 5 FPS. Its about luck who wins a firefight. Its just annoying so that would be the First thing on my list followed by many many other things.

  3. Demos: If this game wants to be a esport Game this thing is very important. Even if its not keant to be a esport Game a Demo function is important. There are so many reasons why this should be in a Game, i will not list them all because i dont have so much time and in my eyes everyone should know that this is important and why.

  4. Console Players: Select Button as Scoreboard button. U have to press one single Button and you are able to see a scoreboard with a simple and good overview of both teams, the XP and the Spectators. At the moment you have to press start -> you have to navigate to the scoreboard -> you have to press “A” on the 360 / “X” on the PS3 -> you have to press “RB” on the 360 / “R1” on the PS3 … instead of all this you would just have to press one single button.

Now you guys, what ideas do you have.

If I worked at SD, I’d shred that Bethesda contract, throw the Xbox 360 and PS3 devkit out of the window, into the garbage container, focus mainly on the PC and Mac and publish future titles on Steam only.

Then start on BRINK DX (Director’s Cut).

64-bit executable for everyone. PC vs Mac support. Include level editor (not a SDK). Sell cosmetic items as DLC (a la LittleBigPlanet). Randomly update the game with a new map or a new game mode.

And probably more.

Then flee to some country for running SD to bankruptcy. >_>

I was about to say… : P

I’d change their info release and posting policies, which are currently dog**** awful.

If someone had an issue, or concerns with a game I’d spent years developing, I WOULD POST REPLIES, answer their questions and defend my product, not sit silently and w/o comment.

I’d explain why the game was released the way it was, the thinking behind the design decisions, and I would promptly address customer concerns, mainly by clarifying any changes or tweaks the company was planning to make.

(tokamak) #7

Last year they had vacancies for production testers so it’s a bit rich to come in now and start telling how you would’ve done it better. I know it’s tempting, it’s an entertaining idea to imagine the production testers being spineless interns afraid of getting a bad evaluation by saying the wrong things leading to a compromised, crippled game. It really is. I would’ve loved to be a part of that team and give unadulterated feedback on the basal weak points in the game.

But it’s just cheap to complain afterwards. If you really want to help then be clear and concise on what you think is lacking in this game.

(Tetra) #8

Fire everyone.

Every single person working at Splash Damage is obviously pathetic at every aspect of game development.

The stupid losers need to GTFO of the industry forever. We would all be better off for it.

Idiots like the people who worked on this game shouldn’t be responsible for anything more than picking up trash and cleaning toilets.

Time for infraction number 2. You’re a ****in tosser m8, do us all a favour and piss off back into the hole you climbed out of.

(AZTEC-SJSU) #10

I am just sooooo disappointed with their lobby system…it’s still irking me now as I vent this on the forum!!!

On a thursday west coast peak timeframe on PS3…even with external chat rooms…can’t get into a decent match without being frustrated or inconvienced.

I am at the mercy of battling patience, hope & straight rage at this situation>>>>

PLZ get this done and make it simpler to have only human matches with large teams.

(engiebenjy) #11

I agree with pressing select to see the scoreboard - not sure why that was left out. Lag also is still an issue but i think this is more todo with host selection than the actual game (its not as bad as before the lag patch).

Honestly if i was in charge at SD i would start work on my next game, and stick to what the studio is good at (and not try to pretend singleplayer is multiplayer with bots). I would also move to idtech 5

(stealth6) #12

If I worked at SD I’d hand out donuts all day!

  • When do I start?

(riptide) #13

If I worked at SD I would seriously consider developing a PC only title using a development process similar to Minecraft. Even if it took 5+ years to make an alpha.

I would of course still honor all current contractual obligations and continue to develop more “mainstream” titles. But I would hope to see my ideas come to life unedited and unrestricted. This is of course only if I can respectably provide for my family.

gameplay > graphics for long term playability.

Oh and if the game was a success on PC I would port it to the consoles. As any developer should. If it’s easier to develop for consoles then you should focus on PC being as efficient as possible and then porting it to consoles. As it would yield much better results.

You’re clearly a complete arse. Please gas yourself, as we don’t need the likes of you breeding unchecked.

If i would work at SD , i´d give girls to brink as chars :stuck_out_tongue:

If i would work at SD, what would i change …

I would boot all the hater trolls from the forum so we can keep it constructive. I know sometimes I may side track a topic in fun, but if you don’t like the game stop playing. Also, stop complaining in the forums. When SD comes out with Brink 2 (I really hope they do) or DLC; don’t buy it. You not purchasing the title will prove your point.

We have all bought games in the past that did not live up to our expectation. Except for a few release bugs, this game is about 90% of what I expected. It has far exceeded my purchase entertainment value. I think SD has and are still trying to make changes that brought up in the forums. I commend them on making an effort.

Isn’t complaining just poorly constructed feedback? I would say it’s still valuable although it might not be pleasant to read it should still prove useful. Especially if those complaints mimic other complaints.

(JaxDad08) #18

I agree, but you know the type of complaining I am referencing. There is a big difference between “Container City is a bad map because of spawn points” and “I want a refund and I’m starting a class action lawsuit.” The first is constructive feedback, but a complaint. The second is someone that is truly unhappy and will constantly troll the forum trying to make it an unpleasant experience for others.

(its al bout security) #19

uber quote reputation earned

(StillBatusBrad) #20

Complaint is a very valuable feedback tool for the devs - but only if constructive suggestions for amendment or improvement come with it.

Just saying ‘X is crap’ or making direct comparison to other titles is of no help to anyone.

That said, whilst I don’t condone trolling, more feedback from SD would help calm many of the more irate posters. At first complaints were about the game and it’s content, a large number of complaints are now about how SD isn’t acknowledging posters’ concerns.

I consider myself a bit of a Brink fanboy, having played compulsively since release, but even I get honked off at the deafening dev silence on issues such as 360 graphics quality, bot AI balance and lobbies/matchmaking. It would take someone at SD about 30 seconds to acknowledge these concerns and confirm or deny that fixes are underway. Their community is dwindling and their reticence to comment baffles me. I’m not interested about other sites, tweets or whatever - I want to read their responses here.

I’m personally assuming that the June DLC will come bundled with a hefty patch, as I like to think our concerns have been noted - but again, no-one from SD has confirmed or denied this - I’m left to hope and guess. Many who are tired of doing so have already traded the game in.
