ideas from titanfall

He was talking about the “campaign multiplayer” when he said Brink did it better.

(shaftz0r) #242

ah. well thats legit honestly

Quake Wars and Brink’s objective-based matches were designed to fit its systems. Titanfall has some good systems, but then it is just used in DM, domination and CTF. It has fun parts, but its parts together don’t form anything… as a result, it is fun to jump in a match, wall-run and duel…but when you reach the final scoreboard, there was nothing satisfying about the match itself. It’s like only watching a sport for what it looks like in the moment, but not caring about the overall strategy, dynamics, progression of the match.

(It also has some bad systems - Titans are basically a cooldown ability. Killing bots and pilots give you currency in the form of decreased cooldown. And burn cards are neither elegant nor fun.)

You could make a really great game if you gave Titanfall assymetrical objective modes…or if you gave it a light base-building/resource gathering mode, such as in NS2 or Nuclear Dawn.

Extraction is much more thoughtfully designed, and I believe it will be a better game. Titanfall is more thrilling at the moment, for sure.

I won’t deny that I am actually a big fan of Brink. Once I accepted that it wasn’t a skill-based shooter and wasn’t going to be, I really enjoyed the teamwork and the flow of the matches. I see it’s “skill” more like the “skill” of a MOBA or something… aim and movement doesn’t separate good players from bad players… but their decision making in the midst of chaos does. Could be wrong about that, since I don’t actually play MOBAs.

completely agree. i personally hate burn cards, and the dumbed down weapons, but i really wish modders were able to get a hold of the game and incorporate obj based play into it. sweet jesus that would be amazing

Yep. Games like Unreal Tournament had key-moments in TDM (DM), like when your team successfully protected the red armor, rocket launchers etc.
Titanfall has none of this, but rewards players for raping random teams with a pre-made team. Just got destroyed by 4 guys who camped the hell out of me with 4 titans

The spawn positions also feel total random.

(tangoliber) #246

I said Titanfall is more thrilling at the moment, but after getting a full local server in Extraction last night, I really like the way the game feels now, and I had more fun than I was having in Titanfall.

(Hundopercent) #247

Really? XT feels more like **** now than ever before since playing TF. =/ There was a point where I even enjoyed Loadout more than XT because the movement was so much more fluid and it didn’t feel like I was steering a barge in an FPS.

(tangoliber) #248

Yea, the strafe speed, ttk, and accuracy feel nice to me, personally. I had a lot of fun.

(warbie) #249

I’m loving Titanfall at the moment. Partly due to being starved of fast, twitchy teambased fps for so long, but also because it gets a good deal right. Last night me and some friends had some epic ctf matches - chasing down the carrier like RTCW/ET days, frantic defences as Titan’s came piling in, and moments of just absolute ****ing carnage with **** happening everywhere! I’d prefer it was all hipfiring and asymmetric objective/class play, sure, but it does have that sense of speed and excitement that’s so missed in shooters these days. There’s always something interesting to do - be it trying to string together jumps into wall runs and zip wires or duelling it out with or running from pilots/Titans - and it’s not frustrating. I can finish top of the board or bottom and it doesn’t feel unfair (accept for that ******* kick!), which is probably my biggest gripe with fps these days. CoD, BF, and I’m including Extraction in this, for various reasons don’t feel fair. Either due to rabbit warren maps designs, fast ttk, disparity in class health/weapons, or a combination, these games can be rage inducing. This wasn’t the case with RTCW, ET and it’s not with Titanfall.

(Ashog) #250

Does Titanfall have a high TTK?

(BomBaKlaK) #251

Not really … just a bit longer than COD, but still really short TTK

(warbie) #252

Yeah, it’s pretty short. The maps are nice and open though and I rarely find myself getting shot without seeing the other guy. In CoD and BF it’s usually ‘wtf’! where was that from?!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhUHOqaC5_A

Oops, at 12:58 he compares Titanfall to Brink and basically says Brink failed more. He goes on with Brink till 14:00.
I am unsure which positives could the devs learn from Titanfall, apart from how not to repeat its backdrops.
Still, watch the vid from the start.
I cant watch this video… I alway have to look him doing his stupid gestures xD

(Protekt1) #254

Its angry joe, take the entire thing as a joke

(attack) #255

reminds me of a big factory boss i met at a friend :D.he had heavy gestures too.
the joke is ,when i spoke with him he had slender about the heavy gestures of a subcontractor agent.

angry joe not only uses too much gestues ,he uses the wrong also .

(Ashog) #256

well, he usually makes more sense than most of people here

(attack) #257

since i got so much hate by saying ,that tf isnt that great ,i have a question who is still playing it?
my complete clan has dropped it and all players i know from other clans too!

(Kl3ppy) #258

I still play it and I dont see a reason why I should stop.

(shaftz0r) #259

i still play for an hour or two a day. there’s an update tomorrow too, and they’ve already started implementing skill matching. there are 3 announced DLC packs, and they’re adding a few game modes for everyone. i see no reason to stop playing

(Erkin31) #260

I still play after 47h on it. Good score.

What I like with the movements of TF, it’s that we can bunnyhop to keep our speed momentum.
Many people on this forum decried this kind of movements because it’s not enough comprehensible. TF, an AAA FPS from EA and a concurent of COD, did it !
(Exemple of a good use of the movements in the game : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pZviSoZ_WE but he uses a lot the iron sight, that slows its movements per moments)

The sales of the game seems good. Rule 1, don’t assume that the wide audience is too stupid to understand this kind of mecanics !

Today, Exedore posted this on twitter : https://warframe.com/news/warframe-numbers

Warframe : Rolling, Sliding, Sliding attack, wall jump, wall run (horizontal & vertical), front flip, Back Handspring, wall slide, wall attack, etc.
