ideas from titanfall

Agreed, man. I was in a clan with sqzz for years - there was no one faster in RTCW or ET that I’m aware of. He was insanely fast. With all due respect, shaftz0r, I doubt you would have made it out the first room. I also doubt we’ll ever seen anything in Titanfall that requires that level of skill and timing. Not saying I don’t like Titanfall’s movement btw - it’s great fun. tbh the whole game feels nice, quick and arcady, and like they’re at least trying something new. Dirty Bomb/Extraction, on the other hand, has been an exercise in playing things safe since day one and does nothing interesting and nothing that hasn’t been done better in RTCW and ET. It’s a PC exclusive and SD had the chance to do something that would grab ppl by the balls and take notice, and we get ET meets CoD with all the crappiness f2p introduces. Is anyone else enjoying the amount of open space in Titanfall btw, and how that space blends into more close quaters interiors? It reminds me more than a little of some ET maps. It’s just a shame Titanfall also feels the need to borrow from CoD - imagine Titanfall with more Quake-like gunplay and ET ttk. And no ironsights! It would be truly epic.

He missed a lot of slopes on that run, was fantastic for being under pressure and healing on the go but definitely not the quickest route and probably not the quickest that was ever done in a comp game… it just happened to be caught on demo.

(warbie) #183

It’s the 10 secs after he gets the docs that are godly - against high level opponents and super quick.

(attack) #184

wells he have to choose the savest path.
we could organize an speedrun competition. blacky of my clan is very fast too,

(attack) #185

to be fair he got backshots.
that gave him speed but amazing control and movement anyway.
liked too spec him on ettv
That seems pretty slow to me actually. He did get a few nice jumps in there off the rail to below the radio but as soon as he got out side it was really slow which I dont know was intentional waiting on his team or not but there’s much faster ways to reach the spawn and that turn.

Edit: This also goes to show how a game can change over the years. There was so much less spam in the early years of ET. Then teams got spawn time calculators and motor charts and a bunch of other stuff. It got crazy toward the end of ET…
its fast he does it right he crouches at the end of the jump to get more distance with the jumps!

(spookify) #187

Stuff down?

i assume when he got outside he was waiting for the respawn, but yeah. as the game went on, it was so much spammier. no idea why the entire axis team wasnt at trans either. they shouldve had arty all over that bottom spawn

^this

he missed the edge of the truck which wouldve gave him a large speed boost. he couldve easily been inside the bottom spawn huts. I dont need to justify it honestly, it just is what it is.

LOL all he did was pack and doc run, which while fun, isnt the epitome of skill.

yes i completely agree, i wish titanfall had quakelike gunplay. that would make the game ever faster, and way more fun for people like us.

(attack) #189

he got shoot in the back.as in et hits push you ,you cant complain himabout that.

(shaftz0r) #190

which gives you speed, it still wasnt a very impressive doc run. it was funny, not impressive, and still not a good comparison to titanfall. once they add competition support, you’re gonna see some epic flag caps in ctf. some of those maps were made to haul ass in

(DarkangelUK) #191

Probably not the best example, but it’s early days yet

RtCW and ET did you give you some impressive docs runs though in general, and this is where the players themselves created a class… the doc runner. You seen it often in clan games, a team mate will shoot someone on purposes so the doc runner can pick up the objective. A good doc runner will navigate flawlessly and keep speed while leaving the enemy sitting, this was due to many factors. I’ve always lobbied this about RtCW’s and ET’s movement system, it’s one of the few games where a player can be a major asset simply with movement alone.

The problem I have with Titanfall, well not really a problem per se, but a personal issue is that anyone really can pull those runs off in a relatively short period of time, where as the video attack posted would take someone a long time to get right under that kind of pressure. Titanfall does have that as well mind you, it can be tough chaining wallruns and jumps while being attacked, which isn’t helped by the tiny TTK and the big giant FLAG CARRIER!!! marker easily pointing you out… which some could argue makes Titanfalls capping just as difficult.

agreed. the only thing that i would add to this, is that whatever character has the stim ability or uses a burn card would be much better suited to run the flag. also i feel like its pretty lame that a titan can cap the flag. these are balance changes that im sure would be addressed in a comp mode

(Protekt1) #193

I’m okay with titans capping flags. There are area of denial attacks like the EMP grenades, other cluster rockets, electric smoke, that can help a lot with taking down a titan trying to run the flag. And I had one run where I called in my titan mid map right before grabbing the flag and he was in perfect position to help me get the rest of the way. Also some maps the titans cannot capture the flag. It would be nice if they allowed for modding the location of the flag capture points.

I’m a fan of the numerous routes you can run with the flag and ways to increase your speed on each route while running. I like the mode in general. I wish the campaign had CTF instead of attrition, at least on some maps.

Some quote from RPS

There are no dedicated servers of any kind. There is no support for establishing or maintaining clans. There will never be any mods…
You should always judge a game by what it is and not by what it’s not, but there’s a gulf between the way in which I want to interact with mulitplayer first-person shooters and the manner in which Titanfall has been provided. It won’t stop me playing, but it might stop me playing for as long. That’s a shame.

I got pretty much the same idea about this game, nothing more than a popcorn FPS. I want “DirtyBomb” better than this !
There is a big lack of Multiplayer FPS this times so you have a card to play (BF4 is not yet finished and never be, TitanFall is a popcorn FPS, I don’t even talk about COD, etc … the only game I’m looking for is “survivarium”, maybe if there is some nice gamemodes )

(shaftz0r) #195

of course there will be 3rd party servers eventually. right now theyre catering to M$. once the launch is done and the first wave of dlcs come out, i guarantee you this will happen, and i can only clan support will come sooner.

RPS is a ****ty site. They fell off being a good site a couple years ago when they started focusing on arguing social issues in interviews as a way to clickbait rather than provide good content for readers

Respawn already announced that more features are being added to the game that just didn’t make the release date. They have said there will be custom lobbies. Also a couple other things but I can’t recall off the top of my head.

(BomBaKlaK) #197

Gunplay sucks anyway, and I don’t even talk about the bot fest … Maybe when the price drop to 10€,I will give it a try few weeks as a popcorn FPS, nothing more. (SF fan boy, I like the the design)
But for the moment I have some better things to do with my money.

(attack) #198
what an absolutely horrendous comparison. titanfall is multilevel with innumerable possibilities on how/where to go. i couldve done that run faster than sqzz, but thats what happens when you play a game for years. wait until titanfall has comp support and people have a lot of time to map out routes. ive had as much fun playing ctf on certain maps, as i had in et back in the day, purely from a movement perspective.
the movement system is too simple to get any depth!

(Erkin31) #199

I’m not a fan of FPS like TF/COD (very low ttk, iron sight, knife/grenade shortcut) but I have some fun on TF. That shows how a good movement system is important for me. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to support this kind of FPS.

(Kl3ppy) #200

haha sorry, but you are the only one who says that TF movement is skillless, I get the impression that you are just not able to use double jump, walljump/run properly
