Idea for Heavies: Bull Rush

(AmishWarMachine) #1

I’m sitting here at work, not wanting to, and I had a thought.

What if Heavies had an innate ability to bull rush the opponent?

What I’m thinking is: As a heavy, if I run into a light or medium opponent, that it knocks them down.

It could be triggered via the SMART button. Or just happen upon character collision.

Imagine the combination of Bull Rush + Adrenaline against a room full of lights defending the objective.

Heavies could be relevant!

Thoughts?

it would be cool if a heavy “sprinting” who makes contact with a light/medium has the same effect as a slide ( =knockdown). and if perhaps the slide mechanic of the light didn’t upend a heavy (or if they both were knocked down).

i realize this gets a little complicated, but the physics of it makes more sense to me. (i dont play as a heavy yet, btw)

Similar to Berserker Rage. as an ability. Could work.

I’ve been levelling up a HVY SOL/ENG the last week or two, so I’ve got HVY on my mind.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Sprinting/SMARTing heavy collides with a med/lit, and they go down. Heavy stays on his feet and can therefor more easily track the fallen opponent and feed them lead pills.

This could be an intriguing addition to the heavy’s advantages list, as well. Though, coupling the Bull Rush with this might be a little too much by some.

My Hulk Hogan (The original, lol not your bizzaro Hogan) would love to have this ability. Lol so would my “Big Ass Black Dude” character as well! Havent been heavy much as of late though, just waiting for patch, right now only use them when we have no other heavies on the team.

(thesuzukimethod) #6

yeah, i think some melee/slide/contact advantage would help buff/bulk up the heavy skillset w/o overdoing it. letting them have a knockdown function, plus being less susceptible to knockdowns by the tiny guys just seems more appropriate…
I’ve been messing around with a light character last week, and upending a heavy with a gotlung just by sliding under them seemed a little cheap.

I’ve thought about switching my soldier/medic to heavy just for the added HP, but i really like the speed advantage of med/light. (it was you (amish) and i on refuel last weekend when i was using my light guy and you were with your heavy, right?..i seem to recall a “fly fatass fly” comment or something like that.

Lights should be able to counter/avoid the bull rush wiith a perfectly timed vault or mantle.

(AmishWarMachine) #8

That’s a great idea.

Not only could lights vault/mantle over opponent heavies, but friendly heavies as well. Would help when my teammates are trying to race to the objective and my lard ass is clogging up the hallway!

EDIT: Yes TSM, that was me

Yeah, I like the idea. Bull Rush + Adrenaline = badazzmofo.

I think there should have been tackle/slide priorities as well.

Lights can slide tackle other Lights and Mediums, but not Heavies. They already get extra bonuses for all the SMART stuff they can do.
Mediums can slide tackle anyone.
Heavies can slide to cover, but not slide tackle. If they try to slide tackle anyone, they just end up laying on the ground and enemy hops out of the way. But they can Bull Rush. Bull rush makes heavy run straight ahead for 3-4 steps, has a short cooldown timer and if they miss their target, there’s a penalty (like they trip or something).

Adding to this: Speed Boost + Adrenaline + Bull Rush = badazzcourier

Heyyyyyyyy Mokoena!!!

(AmishWarMachine) #12

Added a Poll to this thread.

Made it public so I know who to send bad rep to!

(j/k omg)

(Achtung) #13

I didnt answer the poll, cuz it sort of scares me lol. Seems the Heavies could get too uber with too much pizzaz!

However they did seem awful week originally, but I played with ff on as heavy with the Gatling gun and bots the other day and that was awful bad as the AI loves to run in front of me lol.

I guess if BRINK had a stamina bar it’d be ok.

(AmishWarMachine) #14

I probably should have added an “Undecided” option, but I was trying to force people to choose a side (/dejavu OFF).

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that both Speed Boost and Adrenaline are short duration… and if you get run over by a heavy that has neither buff… you weren’t paying attention~

(Ultima) #15

In my view, the idea seems okay. I can see your points and everything for wanting it, but I don’t really feel it’s something I would want in the game. Maybe it’s just because I play as light(I had the light body type in my sights long before the game even came out). I have played as heavy before, my experience with it has just been minimal. I do have one question though, what would the animation look like? Like a shoulder tackle? Or would he simply run into them and they get knocked down? I could see why other people would want it in the game, not saying that I don’t, I just wouldn’t use it because I don’t play heavy.

This is very similar to my thoughts on it. This does bring up another question, should they add a stamina bar in Brink? I mean, there’s definitely some good and bad sides to that.

maybe something like this

(skip to 3:29 if the youtube link doesnt do it for you…i’m surprised SD let this prototype video slip out - note it also includes a counter from a light body typed player)

Oh yeah, I can totally see that in Brink. Can I change my vote now? After seeing how well it could be implemented I completely agree.

Seriously though, I am warming up to the idea the more I think about the ways it could be used.

(AmishWarMachine) #19

My vision of it would be the heavy lowering their shoulder, and “hitting the truck-stick”.

Think Ray Lewis de-cleating Chad Ochocino.

yeah this is very close to what ran through my mind…, although the bald bull charge has it’s appeal.
