Idea for a steal and transmit objective.

(signofzeta) #1

These objectives are there in RTCW (documents, obelisk, gold, key), ET (gold, radar parts), ETQW (data disk, databrain, energy cell), and also Wolfenstein (crystal, crucifix, documents).

Now, we all know the weights of each of these objects are different, especially with the ET ones.

And that Brink has different size of class.

In a future SD game, are they going to take into account the weight of the objective, so that lights can’t carry it, but heavies can, or that 2 lights could carry it etc? I was wondering about this because the gold from ET’s goldrush seem a bit heavy, and one soldier seems to be able to carry it to the truck.

And what are the objectives?

From previous games, we have:

Steal and Transmit
Destroy
Construct
Escort
Hack aka Disable aka Pull Switch (final railgun objective)
Flyer Drone Attack aka Satchel Demolition (fuel dump gates)

All I have heard is the medic objectives. Is there any other new ones?

2 Lights can carry? I’m not sure how would you go about that.

not a simple just run in and carry the heavy item, if a light were to carry a heavy objective, another player must be almost touching the player who is carrying the item, and if the person who is carrying the item has no one around him, the item drops. Can you imagine having 2 guys carry a heavy box full of stuff, and one guy runs away? What happens next? Gravity takes over, and the box squashes your feet.

Or a simpler tactic is to get a heavy to do it.

If it is tough to code in the 2 players in close proximity while carrying an item thing, then heavy can carry item without reduced movement, mediums can carry item with reduced movement (slower than heavy), and lights can’t carry item at all.

It is like that ET comic, where the guy says the gold vanishes and becomes a green circle with a white exclamation mark.

Good luck trying to get 2 strangers on a public server to walk side by side in same direction for any length of time, no one will bother and just get an heavy to do it, in which case why bother going to all the trouble of coding it in.

I cant even see organised teams using it either, pub or comp, why have 2 people out of the equation when you have the option of just having one person take it leaving one more person free to defend that one carrier.

The idea of the size of objective affecting the speed which a class moves is interesting though but I would personally leave that to a mod to try out rather than risk it on the main game.

+1 for this idea

In past games it was always the light bodytypes that were best for ctf objectives. IE Scout in Q3A.

Exception may be the payload in TF2 which is very slow, but then again it’s the light bodytype (scout) that can double the speed of the cart.

Nah, you can simply sit down and cary anything + transmit via remote wall-e so nevermind

Peace

You couldn’t have it so that a single light can’t carry it. What if by chance every player on your team is a light?

"What if by chance every player on your team is a light? "

then you’re doing it wrong

I was also wondering. Doesn’t the operative have some Blackberry or iPhone device as a hacking tool? If there is a steal and transmit objective involving documents, why do they need to send it to a radio tower if they could just text message via their Blackberry?

If everybody is light, well, then, I guess 2 lights will have to move side by side and move slower than a heavy, or 3 lights move together and move faster than a heavy, but slower than a medium, or 4 lights move together and move normal speed.

And if people aren’t going to help you lift that objective, what makes you think they are going to do that in real life?

Oh oh, there also should be some carts to help the lights carry heavy objects or something. The drawback of the cart is that it can’t go up a stair.

Escort the VIP objective

what about segways?
or something like this:

That too. Or a bicycle, which makes me wonder, why no sporting equipment in the Ark?

shooting’s a sport

I would like a ‘hold/release’ objective. Like a door or bridge that stays open/closed as long as you keep hacking it. The moment you stop hacking it drops back into it’s previous state. That would open up so many interesting scenarios.

(brbrbr) #16

akimbo SMG ftw ?
or dual-wield torches if you mean “light” in different sense and play Blade of Darkness sometimes.

(light_sh4v0r) #17

Sounds like fun, would be hilarious to push an enemy hacker away from the console so his entire team drops into the abyss

(tokamak) #18

Yes exactly. Imagine a a draw bridge slowly opening and closing at the will of whether it’s being controlled or not.

(.Chris.) #19

How would this objective be won though? Seems more like a secondary objective to open up an additional route thing rather than a main objective.

(light_sh4v0r) #20

It could be combined with an mcp-like objective I suppose.
