I need ammo! Medic! Gernade!

(Boognish) #1

Am I missing something or are the staple voice commands from the previous ET games missing from Brink? I’m finding that getting the attention of a needed class is very difficult in this game. The chat doesn’t seem to stand out like in other games and most people wont’ even read it, and there’s no good way to get the attention of a class except stand in front of them or shoot at them. When I’m out of ammo it’s particularly bad since soldier is the default class for guys that don’t know what they’re doing.

Are there any commands we can bind to keys to request ammo or a medic? Also I’d like to see voice commands to tell people you are out of supplies so they don’t think I’m a dick standing over their corpse not reviving them, but seemingly taunting them.

The voices seem to be in the game for most requests, it’s just that they’re all automated and not heard teamwide only locally around the character.

Anyone know of commands or am I alone in this complaint?

I agree. Please allow binds for these and the other usual ET vsays. So much nicer to give someone ammo and to know they his some keys to say “Thank you!”. Also, so frustrating to be dead near a medic who was distracted when the automated message went out. It would be great to be able to call for their aid again…

This made me laugh because that’s how I feel, it’s a little awkward at times…
“What the hell are you doing, revive me damnit!”
A “out of supplies” indicator/ColorcodeOnNick/voicecom or whatever would be nice.
Also for medics who can hand over their supplies to a teammate. Maybe I’m missing
something but how do I know one is out of supplies?
About the voice commands. The excisting ones are not available for mapping
afaik, but who knows, maybe in the future (but I doubt it)

agree we need voice commands

(trigg3r) #5

i agree voice command would be very much aprettiated.

(sh4d3Z) #6

Yes to voice commands! As it stands now, when I’m out of ammo… I find a soldier, circle him and bombard him with the clicks of an empty weapon, hoping he gets the point (you’d think typing ‘I need ammo, please’ would be effective… but it almost NEVER gets results sadly).

(SpyCake) #7

Giving ammo is usefull, you get about 100-120 xp for it…and it helps the team, but meh.

(DemiGod) #8

Jesus christ… this is the worst part of the game and the ONLY reason I would prefer bots. They actually go out of their way to find and revive/resupply/etc.

And what about medics that have obviously been xp-whoring that tell you you have no points. And they never revive you - even when they are right next to you. They only work in their little medic parties!!

Gah! So frustrating.

What the OP said. Team vsays would help to improve team communication, especially on pubs, where not everyone has a mic or wants to use VOIP. It would also be nice to bring back global vsays if only because they can add to the fun of pubbing.

The game automatically calls for ammo, medics, etc. When you’re below a certain level of ammo, Soldiers will all hear your character say “Getting low on ammo!” and there’s a “Need ammo!” shout when you fully empty a gun. When you’re incapacitated, the Medics all hear “MEDIC!”

It calls for what’s needed from the people it’s needed from - you don’t have to do anything to tell players what to do - you just need teammates who listen to the autochatter - it ONLY tells you what you need to hear to do your job right

(Boognish) #11

Global vsays were indeed a lot of fun. Hopefully we get some added to brink that have lots of german or Strogg accents  I also miss-spelled Gernade in the topic intentionally as that’s how the americans use to yell it out in both Wolf and QW.

In my first post I addressed that the commands are in there and automated. It’s just that they aren’t effective. To be honest I play as every class and I rarely do hear the medic and need ammo calls. As a soldier I’m always looking for guys low on ammo and rarely do I hear someone calling for it. Also, when they do call it I think it’s a local call rather than over the radio, so if you’re not nearby you won’t hear it. Either way, it’s clearly not working very well since I’ve had countless incidents where I’m jumping all around a soldier trying to get them to see I’m out of ammo, buffing them in any way to get their attention and still ignored. I’m ignored not because they don’t know it’s their job, but it’s just they don’t notice.

It could also be that I’m out of ammo on my primary but full on my secondary, but I presume the ammo bar shows me as half full and therefore not needing ammo as much as I may.

And it’s obviously impossible that they’re out of supplies, or low enough on them that restocking you when you’ve got your secondary still full wouldn’t be as good an idea as saving their last pip for a much-needed molotov that will slow down half the enemy team?

There are plenty of possible reasons for a Soldier not to be giving you ammo - don’t always assume they’re oblivious.

EDIT: As for you not noticing, or assuming it’s a local call and not one from a distance, that’s your lack of attention or lack of understanding of the game mechanics, not a fault in the system.

For starters, you’re the only one in this thread disagreeing, so it’s not just me that noticed. I’m also a veteran of competitive Wolf ET, ETQW, and Urban Terror, so the game mechanics I understand just fine. In fact, I’m asking for systems that were in all these now ancient games, two of which were made by Splash Damage. Also, since the sounds for most of these commands are already in the game, I can’t see how difficult implementing them would be.

I fully understand there’s many reasons why someone may not give ammo, but it sure would be nice if they had a vsay command to say they’re out of supplies or whatever. If someone’s in a heated fire fight and doesn’t hear that I need ammo, the system won’t nag someone who’s not paying attention or was distracted. It’s also nice when the vsay shows up in chat so you know who’s asking. I regularly used vsay commands in those old games to announce incoming enemies, requesting help for defending an objective, announcing you’ve changed to a mission critical class.

So doll, are you arguing that having vsay commands would be a detriment to the game? If so please explain. Of course I’m speaking strictly of the PC version.

(Killgar) #15

When they explained the auto chatter feature it sounded great, and it would be if it was in addition to the old vsay system instead of a replacement. It also needs a text component to go with it, hearing “enemy disguised as me” doesn’t help any more than “enemy in disguise” without a text component showing who said it.

(Boognish) #16

Good point on the disguise part! I’ve heard it said a few times, but if I’m on an FF-on server I’m not about to start shooting everyone just to be sure!

(Bullveyr) #17

This, it just doesn’t work as good as the old system does.

(neg0ne) #18

argee.

SD should defenately imlement to the PC version:

  • v_says instead of this useless auto_says

  • a VOIP - menue, where you can open FT and everything like in et /etqw.

The Brink we have now is downgraded to fit console and Teamplay/SD-game -beginners, whis is not bad, but on PC doesn´t make sense.
Maybe the servers could choose witch kind of says.
( ok, then we need a serverbrowser that deserved its name. )

Really liked the old vsay system (with spam filter enabled for the few who abused it), and the new automated one definitely doesn’t have anywhere near the same flexibility for people to communicate useful information who don’t have or don’t like using VOIP. Some of the automated commands even seem to spam a bit too much, like I need ammo seems to shout every clip used (might be wrong, but I hear it a lot when soldiering and everyone near me is topped up).

Loved the little touches also, like vsaying the enemy great shot when they pulled off some fine shots, brought a nice comradery to the servers.

(matsy) #20

Because there is no clicking sound when your out of ammo?

Although I never used this in ETQW, or rarely if did but I still remember them all from ET to this day
