I Love You Guys

(Apocalypse_Pony) #1

Let me tell you a little story. I loaded up the game tonight and joined a server at the start of a campaign. As usual, everyone was spamming F5, so I went Strogg. It was an all Strogg campaign. Many shouts of stack followed.

Next campaign, the exact same people who 20 seconds earlier were crying stack all spammed F5 until the teams were nearly exactly the same. Roll. Cry. I state the obvious, it’s a self inflicted stack. Admin does a remix, things even up. Guess what happens on the third campaign?

Best I can figure, I play about 80% Strogg. My experience with GDF is usually limited to when they are being rolled and people are bailing. To quote myself from a post in the old Actifail forums. “I see two kinds of games in Quake Wars. The ones were the newbs spam F5 and the ones were the leets spam F5.”

I’m curious. I don’t play much on distant servers. Is this a NA phenomenon or is this just a Quake Wars thing?

(brbrbr) #2

no, its usual for “players” w/o combat spirit.
and thus even more frequent in other games, buit around team camping/crowding.

p.s.
pony’s can’t love guys.
only womans can do this !

(Stroggafier) #3

Beg to differ @brbrbr. This womans love you speak of is a very recent phenomenon; only a few hundred years old. Prior to this recent romantic era, in which the concept of womans love was foisted, the only love was indeed man to man, as in male bonding, brotherly love, battlefield comrads, best friend sort of thing (perhaps that even extended to a man and his pony - maybe only in Mongolia :D) .

Womans were considered corrupters and men could only lust for them, but not love them. Also until recently, it didn’t matter much what the womans perspective was on this, since womans were thought of more as chattel than as persons. Men were persons; Womans were not. Hence, womans could have no concept of true love. Some cultures may still think this way today.

Try telling that to your wives and mistresses

But, I think this is off topic despite @Apocalypse_Pony’s thread title. My observation of ETQW on PS3 is that it happens a lot on the consoles as well, especially when there is a high ranked player mixed in with a group of nubs.

Basiley’s Engrish is unmatched but you should know better Stroggafier! Don’t you say women when you mean more than one woman in Canada? I’m usually not one to complain about spelling but come on that’s horrible!

on topic: When I used to play ETQW stacks weren’t that much of a problem but people playing the wrong classes. 90% of my playtime has to be as medic because no one ever chose it.

(Stroggafier) #5

My bad, @darthmob - didn’t want to confuse basiley…hehehe, well not really, just being a bit mocking. Sorry. :o

On topic: There was an instance last year, when I encountered several experienced players all huddled onto the same side - it was an artifically contrived points-fest that I found so totally dispicable that I posted their names and my strong objections in a thread on the old forum.

That’s why i wrote a macro to spam “join gdf” faster than the speed of noob. I really prefer even teams, but i really hate it when they cause the situation themselves.

Ah, it’s a brave new world, brburpadur.

Dunno, I almost always play GDF these days :). Weapons are much more fun to use thanks to the much less user friendly control. We won about 3 campaigns last night on GDF against some try hard stackers on Strogg, so I would say you just aint spamming f5 enuff .

(brbrbr) #9

/me bookmarked in calendar “check Canadian womans seriously, preferably in-person”

(Apocalypse_Pony) #10

You and everyone else. I guess that’s one in the plus column for Brink. No Strogg.

I would say you just aint spamming f5 enuff

Yeah, I’m just not into key spamming. However, I do like sitting in spec, enjoying a cold beverage while half a dozen people spam away, waiting for someone to join Strogg.

(tokamak) #11

I’m only playing defender, they’re always in the minority wherever I go.

Oh, thought you meant strogg was being stacked (usually how it is). I find gdf weapons to be more fun usually, but it all depends on who I want to tbag and if I am feeling like ruining a good ole pub stack .

(Tandem) #13

Not enough good players left to stack.
I see the zero-minded spam stack often.

I play strogg the same amount for the same reasons.
Sigh*

(Apocalypse_Pony) #14

Perhaps not. But there are still plenty of people who don’t get it. A few people on one side who know what they are doing is all it takes anymore. In fact, there is such a steady stream of new people to this game, I can’t help but think we’d have a thriving community if everyone else hadn’t left already. And those who continue to leave.

Sadly, I fear Brink will suffer the same fate. And it will be my fault. You see, any game or mod that is actually unique and I enjoy playing is doomed to failure. It’s been going on for years now. Maybe I should just stay away. :o I missed W:ET and that was a raging success.

(Nail) #15

smartest thing you’ve ever said, they’re absolutely wonderful

(.Chris.) #16

Ha, same here apart from the ET bit, although I did love powerball on ET and that died a very undeserving death :frowning:

(Ashog) #17

Unsure, but didn’t Powerball come a bit late when already 50% of W:ET community left the scene?

BTW, what’s F5? I have ready on that button :stuck_out_tongue:

(Apples) #18

The only bad thing I feel bout qw is the bloody hitboxes netcode… the game is still fine, just play the sundays on nirvana and smurfpub or play anything else the rest of the week

Oh, and dont forget to drink alot, it usually helps

(Apocalypse_Pony) #19

Default button for joining GDF.

That could very well be my problem.
