I just want to play with my friends on the same team!

(divineViolin) #1

First off the game is awesome, finally splash made something I like after enemy territory!

Here is the big issue so far. I play with anywhere from 2 to 7 of my friends, we are casual players not competitive in anyway. There are huge skill gaps in the group. A great deal of time has been spent in the past couple of days trying to get everyone on the same team to play together. I am not sure if it is the norm but we do not like being on opposite teams, when we join a server and can’t be on the same tor or the server shuffles teams and we are not together the following happens.

  1. If we have enough players on a team to win a vote kick, we will kick a player to allow a friend to join that team.

2)The friends placed on the team with the least number of friends will join spectator until other players join the enemy team and they can join the team with the majority of us. This has lead to entire games with one or two of us as spectator, and a lopsided game for those playing when the server is full :frowning:

3)We will leave the server find an empty server and do a combination of 1 and 2 while the server fills up.

Now just to clarify we only play this game to play with each other not against. Over 10 years ago we solved this problem in enemy territory by being server admins. I don’t think dedicated servers are an option in dirty bomb and even if they are, I am too old for that shit now.

TL;DR there needs to be an option to join as a party that will always be on the same team even when the server shuffles teams.

Play matchmaking as a group? That’s only for up to five players but it may alleviate some of the issue you have.

(ToonBE) #3

Dude that is just plain selfish. You are ruining the game for others. Kicking an other player so you can play in the same team? Disbalancing a match by going in spec? Seriously??

They should give you and your culprit friends a 1 week ban.

If you want to play in the same team go play ranked stopwatch. Or wait untill renting private servers becomes available. But this behaviour should not be accepted.

(Ardez1) #4

That seriously sounds scummy to do to people. Intentionally making lopsided games and kicking players for no reason besides you wanted a slot opened up.

Just play against each other. It is still a fun game whether or not your entire team is made up of friends.

(Amerika) #5

Yeah, that is pretty scummy. Not that I want people to leave DB, but you should probably go play Planetside 2 where you can all easily be on the same side and not have to resort to these less than tasteful and anti-community tactics.

100% agree we don’t like doing it. I seem to failed to articulate my point, and that is I just want to play with my friends that is all. We are an older group in our 30s to 40s with kids work and the time we have to play games together is limited, and may have to leave mid match. I don’t think you will have to worry about us ruining games for others much longer as it has been very frustrating experience so far and we are mostly playing out of nostalgia for the glory days of rtcw and enemy territory.

In summary if I can’t play on the same team with my friends I would rather not play at all, and judging from the responses in this thread I don’t think this game is for us.

(Amerika) #7

If they ever give us the ability to rent our own servers then you guys can do with that server whatever you want.

(ToonBE) #8

Are you not reading? We told you how: play pre made party competitive mode.

If you want to play with more then 5: wait for server rental to become available.

If those are not options, yes you best stop playing because what you are doing atm is not acceptable.

Some servers for ET are still up last I checked(couple months ago). You can relive your glory days in the game you know and love.

“The time we have to play games together is limited” - So we would rather have 1 or 2 of us spectate then join on the enemy team. We know that it consumes server slots and prevents others from joining and makes the game imbalanced.

“We may have to leave mid match” - So we kick players who are trying to enjoy the game so their slot opens up.

You shouldn’t be shocked that players who enjoy this game get unhappy when you are making the game experience worse for new players and potentially driving them away.

(triteTongs) #10

That’s too many people IMO.
I can see UP TO 3-4 friends in an 8v8 but you seriously can’t expect to have more than 4 trying to stack a team. Kicking for room is scummy. If they can’t join the team, then they can’t join. You fight against them. That’s how it works.

At that point, matchmaking is better for you. Not only will it be more even for skill levels, but you don’t have to worry about switching teams and all that.

Also, If you end up buying a server… I won’t join it. I’d clearly see the stack and I’d leave. You’d be facing 8v1’s who just load in and quit two minutes later.
Fun to you?

The game is currently in Beta, and this is the time when players give feedback to the devs and that is why I am here. Whether or not what I am doing is scummy or not is irrelevant as there is nothing to prevent other groups of players from doing the same thing and from this reddit post it looks like others agree. http://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/38n3q1/after_two_days_playing_with_friends/

As some of you are aware Splash Damage had 2 unsuccessful games previous to Drity Bomb both Quake wars and Brink failed due to communities that shrunk down to nothing, but I have high hopes for this one as it plays very well.

I would like to keep this thread constructive

What are some of the reason everyone here is so against having match making for casual players? Is this not something that can be added in addition to the existing system without taking anything away? This is not something new and was relatively successfully for COD MW2 which had one of the highest if not the highest concurrent players of any COD game released on steam. MW2 was not a great game but it allowed people to play together and spend less time trying to find servers.

(Amerika) #12

What you are doing is scummy and it is relevant because our feedback is that we don’t want an easy to abuse system put into place so that you and your friends can take advantage of it and make this game worse for anybody not in your circle.

People have mentioned, multiple times, that you guys can queue up for ranked with up to 5 people. Other than that you can wait for servers that can be rented. The system right now completely discourages team stacking and I think most of us not only want to see that stay but actually be fixed up a bit.

That’s constructive feedback to the devs in regards to your request. Much like most of the previous answers you have received.

@Amerika In games where they are already doing this they take pre-made groups and match them with other pre-made groups. Say you have a group of 4 and I have a group of 5. It will match us against each other then fill the rest of the game with solo players. If someone from my group has to leave mid match it will fill that spot with another solo player with no penalty for leaving the group mid match. I agree ranked does look fun if you have the time. This is not an easily abused system.

I think this game is great that is why I am taking the time to post on the forums. I care about it and I want to be a success. I do however feel that without at a good system to play with friends the game will remain on the Brink of success.

I don’t think this on whim, why did FPS games become more popular on the consoles when FPS games originated on the PC? Also look at the most popular genre the MOBA which eclipses everything else in hours played and number of players. I believe that this is largely in part due to the fact that both MOBA games and console allow players to easy group up and play with friends.

The reason group matching works in CoD is because they have one of the players be the host for the server. With the dedicated server system currently in place it would not work because people can join via the server browser. No server browser system exists for the latest CoD games. Dedicated servers aren’t an option in CoD.

(divineViolin) #15

Two months later and I am sad to admit it but you guys were right. DirtyBomb is not the game for us. We were the problem with the game and our scummy tactics that no one else could possibly use.

I also play with friends anything from just me and someone else up to 5 total. I understand the refusal of playing competitive. Especially because people in it are either not serious or too much. Anyway, whenever we play together we try to find a server we can fit in and then let fate play its hand. Game after game we switch teams if possible and do occasionally get to play together or against each other but that isn’t a bad thing. You should definitely not stop playing because you can’t play in the same team. Playing against friends is very educational and can lead to understand what mistakes one does consistently and how to fix them. Ultimately one just gets better.

My advice: keep playing even when not in the same team. Learn from it and have fun. If you tell me that this isn’t possible then I’ll reply that you’re full of it and that you only want to play in a full team to be able to wreck a pub uncoordinated team and if so, then shame on you!

(Fiktio) #17

I understand that it’s very nice to play with friends, especially when having limited time to play. Me and many of my friends are working as well, so also our time is limited.
Still we can enjoy playing with each others and this means also playing AGAINST each others. Still when we are in the same teamspeak, we can play in opponent teams and have some fun.
( If you want to learn more about your friend and learn more his/her playingstyle, you can learn a lot by playing against the friend. )
We also try to join to the same team if it’s possible and we have some room, but nobody refuse to join to the server just because of there’s no room in the same team.
For us more annoying are those queue bugs: friends don’t mind to play against me if necessary, but they can’t join the server, because queue is bugged. It’s only a great thing if we manage to get in the server without troubles. No matter are we playing against each others or in the same team, we are not wasting our limited time in queue line. (So basically with this case group join system would help as well, I think.)
If opponents starts leaving, we also try to balance the server and join to the opponent team to make the match a bit more fair. I suppose all of you know the feeling, when team mates are leaving and nobody is joining in your team, because they just wants to be in the same side with friends. How many of you like that feeling? I doubt that many like it after all.
I admire those players that join to help underpowered team and try to balance the server.

(IcySkyz) #18

wow so thats why I got kicked…qq. But yea, there should be added features to allow you to play with your friends (and remain on the same team) in public and comp mode.

(ttownjoe) #19

well i see the point on each side, the real problem is there is need for private servers and admins that can kick hackers, run competitive matches with custom rules, allows friends to play on the same team etc.
