I hate pistols...

Yes I really hate pistols. But obviously when playing soldier I don’t run (till lvl3) with heavy weapons, so I have to move somehow. Pistols (except for Akimbo) seems soo uneffective for me that I don’t use them except for really open areas, like Fuel Dump or Radar. I takes annoyingly long time to shoot someone down with pistol, and it’s extremally hard to kill enemy with SMG with it. Headshots aren’t so easy under fire.

Grenades, on the other hand, certainly can kill SMG enemies, even medics with good aim. Of course some kind of cover is required, like columns, curved corridors etc.

Does anyone else give up using pistol ? By the time I have Akimbos, I can already carry extra SMG, so what’s the point ?

I think I never scored 3 heatshots per one Sten burst… which has both great accuracy and better rate of fire. I guess I should try it with pistol :/.

Grenades just seem more lag-friendly, all I have to do is time it well and use as much cover as possible.

It is the secondary weapon, so you can’t expect it to be as good as the primary one. Still beats only having a knife. :moo:

The pistol has saved my ass tons of times when I’ve been using the panzer. Its not that hard to kill with. I would’t take it over a SMG though.

Pistols are pretty handy I think, although the recoil SUCKS ASS.
But you can certainly fight people off with them. You’ll never kill a medic though.

Is it just me or does the 1911 seem more accurate the the luger?

Whenever I use the Luger I always feel like I’m going to be fireing off wildly but the colt makes me feel like I’m actually going to kill someone.

I feel better with the Colt too. My stats seem to agree. Though, I do better with MP-40 vs Thompson, so it balances out.

Pistols are not supposed to me as effective as one of the SMGs. The pistol or more of a last resort defence thing you pull out when you can’t reach them with flames or your panzer isn’t loaded yet.

If you want to practice then just select the pistol for a campaign and you will actually notice a difference when you go back to normal play. I have played a few campaigns with the pistol. I don’t do really good, but it’s fun and good practice. :slight_smile:

I had the beta nver used the pistols, first 4 or so weeks of the full game never used them, then i started to see dual pistols and i wanted them so i worked on maxing all skills as a medic especially light weapons, i was never great at nades though im ok at them, so i decided to use my pistol or knife to kill, but dont get the oppurtunity as a medic to use the knife much so it was pistols, i tell ya i used to use them as a last resort but no sometimes i use them over the smg’s why cause they are brilliant, ive only started to use them properly but i killed a hell of a lot of axis in fuel dump by using them, 3 bullets to the head or a clip in the chest does it. Its quick and if u are good painless. when u get the dual pistols the fun begins coupled with medic regeneration and adrenaline medics are real badass’s run in revive and cover them by blowing a few axis heads off with dual pistols. My faveorite medical strat is using adrenaline running in dual pistol style and shooting!!

medics r the big users of pistols usually they dont have much ammo, back in rtcw i never got ammo so i had to take people on with a pistol, u can win 1v1 with a pistol against a smg u just need to have good aim u can do it in about 2 clips most of the time. Soldiers dont seem to use pistol much they ither /kill or run away :P.

You can compensate quite a bit for the recoil by twitching the mouse down just after your fire. With a little practice you can get nice tight groups. To kill a medic, you pretty need to get at least one headshot, or run into one who is already hurt.

The SMGs are more effecitve, of course, but a good shot with a pistol is nothing to scoff at.

Your other option as a soldier is to run around with a grenade out.

It’s weird, but I think I was much better with pistols in RTCW test…
