Most newbies I see can’t place med stations or throw ammo packs, can you really expect them to know how to use melee weapons effectively?

Yes but you’re a d!ck if you chose not to abide by the rules if the rest of the lobby is doing it.

Like many have suggested its best to have custom servers. or servers dedicated to melee. Cause 99.99% of the time, there are plenty of empty lobbys.

If they are a majority, better play their game or quit. It’s the law of majority, good or not.
There is plenty of servers where everybody play in a normal way. I just encountered 2 match in a row (in more than 600h) where everyone was playing with custom rules (one melee only, the other vassili only) and it was fun. But some people were not playing in our rules, we tried to convince them or they leave. Some people were happy to join a funny game mode.
Sometimes, changing rules is fun. Don’t ruin the fun of people. It’s just a game. It’s not like you were ban.
If you don’t like it, I can understand, but just don’t stay in their match, because it’s like you’re were exploiting their melee only to get more xp (easier to kill a melee enemy than a gunner).
They need to give us some community servers, then everyone will be happy.

Ah or maybe you dont understand my viewpoint? And I’m all for kicking people, if they’re AFK, unhelpful or just ruining matches (aka shooting in a melee match). What I was trying to get across is the difference between meleeing only and playing vassili. BOTH are ways people CHOSE to play. AND BOTH you can be kicked for. AKA if you’re gonna complain about being kicked for not meleeing you need to complain about the WHOLE kicking in general.

BUT just to reinstate IM FINE with kicking its the OP who isn’t.

I thought one of the 3 things everyone knows in Dirty Bomb is “Don’t be a dick”. If everyone on the server agreed on melee only and you decide to ruin the gameplay for 13 people, then you are a dick and you deserve to be kicked.

I wrote a massive bit of prose on this subject as I find it pretty interesting, everything you guys are writing is fascinating from both sides of the fence. What I wrote is included in the spoiler below, but I feel it’s very negatively charged and also not very constructive, so I will condense it to the following:

It irks me that mobs of players are enforcing rules on servers open to the general public. While I would like a space for players to play whatever game mode they choose to design or create, I think it makes a poor impression of SD’s game especially if new players are in these servers. There are also issues where players may not speak english and are finding themselves votekicked without understanding why. This is bad for the game.

[spoiler]I find it incredible that there are people in this thread calling players dicks for wanting to play the game as intended and refusing to bow to wannabe server admins. I’ve actually had fun on occasion in melee only, but the reactions of players in this thread temp me to take a remburg, fake out the melee players before blatting them in the face and get kicked with pride. You can disagree with the OP but calling him and anyone on his side a dick makes you a cock of the highest order and fits in entirely with my impression that most of the players calling for melee only are angsty teenagers.

What if instead of melee only, some clan had 3 players on each team and decided to votekick anyone who joined not from their clan? The same logic applied in this thread, that pack rule is fine and dandy protects these guys as much as it does people trying to have fun using only melee, and I think most of us would agree that clans pulling that sorta stuff is not on. What about stat padders? What about if you and a few of your mates are on a quiet server only to find a larger group that join afterwards trying to dictate rules to you? Is that alright?

I hope someone from SD chimes into this matter at some point. If these things happen naturally, fine, that’s awesome, but if players start joining and shooting then say that the fun is over and stop trying to be the fun police, because that’s exactly what you’re doing - enforcing your view of fun on anyone unfortunate enough to join the server.[/spoiler]

If this was in a public match and not a server browser you have every right to use a gun and not have to use melee but if you chose to go on to this server which said melee only then it’s bad

I agree, enforcing shouldn’t be done/needed. And while some say go to a private match sure, but you have to invite people. and if you’re a player that doesn’t know many people, it can be drastically hard to get a good game of melee

But I feel its not gonna be solved until SD release a way of renting custom servers, or them setting some servers to special modes. I personally feel renting servers would be easier. And it gives them another form of income.

As for Pack mentality. True, it is very much an a announce. But as stated above these threads have been going on for ages. and there been suggestions but until SD decide to let us rent servers, or make it so some servers have special rules, there’s nth else we can do about this. and at the end of the day if some flock of players that happen to be in the same clan blah balh balh, and started enforcing shit, eh I would just leave and find another match. Sure it frustrates me I have to find another match. But its doesn’t prohibit me from having fun with the game in the way I want, as I can easily find more servers where people are just playing.

And very true, on the last statement, I think everyone is waiting for a statement from SD on this topic :confused: And Most melee matches I join start off from about 3/4 people maybe 5/6 and then it gets packed, and when people join they notice only melee kills happening and join in 9/10, but then there always one “new” person that might not get English, or a person just wanting to troll. And wheneva that happens I just try harder to knife him. - To which they become salty and leave anyway. But at the end of the day if they are kicked because they’re 1/12 or 1/14, 1/16 then surely that is Justified. If they’ve came in, and people have told him (in a calm and nice voice) that hey bud this is a melee only lobby, and he chose’s to just be Arrogant about it, surely its there fault for either not leaving to find a lobby they want to play in, or for ruining 11/12, 13/14 or 15/16 peoples fun?

But continuing to discuss this is beating a dead horse, sure its good to let the SD devs know its still an Issue, but I’m sure its on their radar. but maybe (as you can tell -from my saltiness) seeing all these dam “Oh i got kicked for not playing how I wanted and I couldn’t be asked to find a another server where it wasn’t melee only” threads tend to just boil me with rage. Just take responsibility yourself. You don’t want to play melee then its YOUR responsibility to find a lobby you want to play in. Its not the Knife-rs fault. its not SD’s fault. people need to learn to just take dam responsibility.

Either way Its best to see what Happens with Casual Matchmaking and take it from there imo.

Who are you to say how the game is supposed to play? Noone ever said you should shoot only and can’t play a melee match. Can you show a written rule that say you’re not supposed to have melee matches? You’re pretty good at seeing your rights, but not rights of other players. And that’s being a dick at it’s best.
