Guess it depends on the game.

Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory - yes
Enemy Territory:Quake Wars - yes, lower settings
everything else, not worth it, might start but not playable imho

At least 4GB RAM is preferable and a quad-core processor but with the specs that you have mentioned you can still play few games but with lots of restraints, of course, like you, have to modify some settings to get them going.
