Huge Mod! Need Experienced People

Ok, I am starting up this mod. If we accomplish this it will be one of the best ET mods. The projected started about a week ago.

Our #1 Goal is adding vehicles to ET.
We are creating a total conversion mod and we will be adding new weapons. B.A.R, P38, mp44, etc. We will also be adding a melee attack. Well the biggest thing is the vehicles this is how the vehicles will be used.

There will be a new class (Drivers or we might call them something else)
Drivers will be allowed to select a vehicles (kinda like selecting weapons and there will be a list of 3 cars per team). We made a new class so that people won’t argue much on driving. The vehicles will be able to hold soldiers (i.e the back of the truck). The vehicles will carry mg42’s on the back making the vehicle controllable by 2 people (any normal class can get on the mg42; Kinda like the tank).

Ok, then the vehicles will be destructable, similiar to tanks. Once the vehicle is damaged it will make an explosion which will kill just about anyone on or near the vehicle. THen engineers will be able to repair the vehicles (Like the tanks). We will also try to make ranks for the driver class. The higher rank you get the faster your car goes, better brakes, harder to damage, etc…

So that is our #1 Goal which will be a real real challange. We will also be adding in new features such as. Melee attack, New weapons, sounds, maps (vehicle-friendly maps), exploding flamerthrowers. Anyone with a flamerthrower who is shot on the back (in the tank/backpack part of it) will explode. This way it will be cool to backrage a flamer :banana:.

Well, you may be wondering why I posted this. Well, so far on our team we have:

A coder, modeller, concept artist, and me (I kinda do a bit of everything/ keep everything in order)

Our coder is smart but not very experienced. He says he can help create the melee attack all we need is an animator who can create an elbow and gun hitting towards a person (a melee attack). We also need another modeller to help outa bit of the work and help create the vehicles.

the number 1 thing that we trully need is a VERY VERY experienced coder. I don’t know much in coding but I know adding these vehicles will not be easy. Please if you think you can make this dream come true don’t hesitate and e-mail me.

I have been looking at this, I am only wondering if it will move with missile-clip mask , if it will it is no problem to do…

You’ll be lucky finding an animator. We’ve been trying for months and haven’t found anyone who could commit enough time - I’m learning to do it myself.
Also, you’ll have more trouble with the 3rd person animations, as there aren’t many options WRT the player model formats.

Besides, surely ET + vehicles = BF1942 ?

And you can do it, because ET is based on the Q3 Engine and for Q3 there are mods with Vehikels (there is 1 rally mod e.g.) :)…

Maybe I can try to make vehicles driveable , as I said if I can use clip-mask like for current movers it is possible ( just change spline following to user controll ), with hitboxes it will be crappy …
Yes it will be hard work , but surely it is possible…

good luck and all but this sounds like one of the many posts that have been posted here before of people with huge ideas but nothing really backing them up, theres been talk of vehicles before it ET and most have just said ‘yeah good luck with that one ;)’ sort of replies. the minor additions you talk about like adding weapons etc will be interesting but I very much doubt that we’ll see a truck in ET anytime soon

Well…Alot of post thats good. Let’s see where do I start.

Ok, I assure you that this is not just another post with another good idea that won’t go through. I am very very dedicated to doing this. Even if the team dies out I would be prepared and try to find a new team. I don’t think anything will stop me from finishing this mod. I will spend day and night just trying to finish it. :banana: .

Lets see…Thanks for the rally source codes I guess that will help out our coder.

Well, it’s good to know that the mod is possible but that still means we need a coder.
Jaquboss you said you might be able to do it. You seem really smart maybe you should consider joining us as well. We would love to have anyone who is willing to help on the team. :banana: .

Our modeller is working on the B.A.R at the moment but it would also be nice to have another modeller so he wouldn’t have to do all the work (Poor Little guy :frowning: ).

Yeah, I guess you can say it will be like BF but I don’t really like the BF game style. It would be better to have ET cars (Cuz Et rocks, as we all know).

Well just wanted to let you guys know that we are really dedicate this and thanks for the information and support. Also that we are in real need of members right now. Thanks guys.

however unlike Q3 rally there is need to work with ent->tanklink , any ideas how to work with it in pmove ?

rather than using animators for moddles y not use the same advanced shaders for the veicales like the tanks in ET. will also save on modle data size

for a test you could try get getting a working tank by using the ET tank modle as they have a damged moddles too with just about the same clip proportions

alos with this being such a big project you may want to tackle stages at a time, perhaps getting a drivable tank before creating new a new class to drive it etc

final concern is how would the vehicles react with the movables in ET, in goldrush thre would be loads of plances where the tank would get jamed. new maps? would mean loads more work and lots of new staff

Indeed. UT2004 uses the same idea. It also has the advantage that the speed is more easily varied, over a wider range, without the problems of a limited number of frames.

It also makes it easier to skin the tracks -
If the shader is moved around the track, it means the skin can be made with mud, etc on it.
If the model is animated, you either need A LOT of frames to do a whole rotation, or skin the track so uniformly that it can be made to look like it’s going all the way round, but is only moving the distance of a couple of links (RtCW’s tank in the SP missions did it this way).

In the long run, the moving shader is the best way to go for tank tracks, and I suppose wheels too for the same reasons (use a fractin of the extra model filesize you would have wasted on the animation to make the wheel a btter shape).
