HUD display....UGH!!

(BoogerBomb) #1

The heads up display is horribly laid out.

  1. First it is WAY to busy, meaning way to much unorganized crap on the screen. I see more stuff from the HUD than I do actualy gameplay.

  2. Please, please, pretty please move the console messages, IE who killed who and such, back to the upper left corner. And also reduce the size so that it doesn’t take up the entire left side of the screen.

  3. The coordinate system I dont like but I can live with it if you would at least put right under the compass your current co-ordinates. And when someone calls for LT or Med have small arrows telling you where to go. The icons only show up on the compass if the player is near your position. If they arre furhter out you have no chance of finding them.

  4. The chats need to be increased in size and moved up a bit I think. Right now they are so small and so far down on the bottom of the screen that nobody even notices them.

Or an even better solution would be to make the HUD totally customizable. Such as allow each item on the HUD could be re-sized, within reason, and situated on any part of the HUD that the player chooses. Maybe a drag and drop screen where you use the + or -, or mousewheel to adjust the size?

Thanks for your time.

Yea!! Like have a menu where it shows a black box, and then it shows all the HUD objects arranged on it. Then you could drag and drop them to their position, or remove them entirely.

But this would be the least of priorities, there are much bigger issues to deal with.

Keep in mind, they aren’t making one penny off of this game. Everything they are doing is just a very kind jesture.

WTF? I never got that. Anyway, The HUD can seem anoying if you are staring right into it… but in the heat of battle, I don’t even notice it. I love the face… its awesome!!

(Ph0g) #4

Like have a panel with all the HUD items on it so you could arrange them how you please.

Yeah, like , you would be able to type, in console /edithud , and then you would be able to drag everything around. And if your not satisfied with that, you just reset the Hud by typing /resethud …

wow,

/me is so proud at his original ideas

Actually, it’s most likely Activision that isn’t making one penny. I’m sure Splash Damage is getting paid to fulfill whatever contract they signed with Activision.

So no, they aren’t just doing a very kind jesture. SD would probably like to get future work.

Then activision is doing a very kind jesture, it gets there somewhere up the tree.

I have tried that /edithud thing and it says unknown command. If i do it during intermission, it says cannot edithud during intermission. When can that command be executed?

I was just kidding boogerman
The comments mentioned actually are implemented in the Mod Quake 3 Fortress…

I also like to idea to show your curernt coordinates.
And I think the face aint really usefull I think.

And also thinkg a cutomizable HUD would be great offcourse, but not really nessesary.
And last think I would like is to also have numbers at the HP-bar.
Rest I think the HUD looks nice and clean

that face reminded me of doom…lol, i find it a bit useless, oh also…health? i mean the bar is rather annoying…but then its just me i think, anywayz great game :drink:

Actually I tried that during the “intermission” ot the game win screen and it spit back "cannot edit HUD during intermission ro something to that effect. So maybe its pending, who knows.

Since the Quake 3 Fortress devteam is partially made out of members now working for SD, i figure it likely that this kick-ass feature would be in the full ET-game.
