How will SD feel if everybody goes QW crazy!?

(eRRoLfLyNN) #1

It’s already happening here on this forum! Which is great tbh! But it also makes me sad in a way. Tis the beginning of an end of an era :nag:

Personally I’m pretty sure I’m ET til I die. But how will the makers of ET feel if everyone leaves the beautiful game for the potentially more beautiful game!?

Would they like to see people stick onto ET, or go with the new game? I know there’s gonna be no response from SD on this matter, but it’d be very interesting to know! (Predicting Tapir references now hehe)

How do yous (mere mortals/forumers) feel about the fate of ET when QW comes around? Will we hear in crazy forums around the world: etqw > et omg noob play et et > etqw etc.

I’m havin a moral dilemna here! I love ET, but what will happen if I love ETQW more!?! Make my mind up!!

(btw sorry for starting another QW thread!)

There is a big difference between the two games, ones free, ones buy to play. People will always take the free game first. ET Wont die, to many people like it.

(eRRoLfLyNN) #3

But apart from that. ET isn’t just succesful because it’s free. It’s successful because it’s a great game. I have converted CS players to ET. Sorry I’ll correct meself! ET has converted CS players to ET. To quote friends of mine who were diehard counterstrike fanatics, “CS is great, but ET…hmmmm… Et is…hmmmmm… well ET is is”. They played CS for yearss! BF, BF2, every other shit that was out there to play. ET is what they came back to and said “Hmmm, that was ok, but ET, hmmm, ET is eh…well ET is woohoo!”.

That’s how great ET is. ET in my opinion would have been even more succesful with an ad campaign, which obviously wasn’t paid for because the game was free. You’d go on any stat site and see ET as the top game on any of them. Get everybody who kows a CS player and say “try this CD”, half of them would be hooked in an hour. Call it melodrama, but I seriously believe this!

I onl want to know how etqw will be received by ET fanatics. Not people who download it some night for a tryout. Btw I have nothing against anybody who downloads ET any night! I just think some of the community spirit of ET will die when QW comes out. And I’ll be fairly sad about that…

Lost me train of thought…

Oh, that’s easy to predict. Read for yourself:

One thing that really irks me is your version of nades - i’ve played wolf competitively for 18months now. In that time i’ve seen threads on every other weapon, class and ability and how it could be altered - BUT i have never ONCE seen anyone complain about nades (grenades). Why did you see fit to change what is perhaps the most perfectly balanced weapon in the game???

hey splash, you forgot a few things on your remake of bf1942
(…)
you forgot to have planes and jeeps you can drive around in, other than that its a perfect copy

Is it just me or does it seem like Lieutenants(oops I mean field ops) are useless now?

Who ever was in charge of employing/recruiting the actor who did the voices should be shot at dawn!!! Never mind dawn shoot them bloody now. I am soooo disapointed if these are to be the final voices.

I agree. A sniper rifle that isn’t one-shot-kill with the amount of recoil it currently has is totally useless. Might as well do away with the weapons.

Make it one-shot-kill to head and torso, two to legs… at worst.

ET doest not look like WOLF. At all. And it LAGS.
ET looks different from WOLF in any way, maybe except each teams uniforms. But, ET looks like MOHAA and Battlefield 1942. Now lets stop for a little and think, how many of the players who purcharsed wolfenstein and liked it liked mohaa? Lets say 40%. Now how many liked bf1942? Lets say another 40% (do not stack the %… keep reading) now how many people purcharsed wolf and liked it? Roughly 95% (who buys games without trying the demo first? Well if you did and didn’t like WOLF, youre one of the 5%) So, which is best, make a new game that looks like every other game on the market or make a unique game, just like Wolf is?

Sounds familiar ?
Whine, whine, whine. Fanatics of any kind are just that - fanatics. ET:QW has already been heavily criticized by people who didn’t play it. I wouldn’t care too much about ‘pro’ players, they’re very rarely happy with a new game. Newbies and players who switched from other games are much more interesting in their views. Most ‘pro’ players don’t want new games, they want everything to stay the way it is.

(Higgins) #5

I like all new games, but i never forget about the older games. Well, I bought COD, HL2, all sorts of war games, but, ET seems to be the one that I play all the time. Its a great game, and I have to thank my friend for telling me about it, about 1 year ago.

“How will SD feel if everybody goes QW crazy!?”

I guess they would say WOOHOO all the way to the bank! That would mean a lot of people bought it, a hit for SD giving them a great position for their next project. I seriously doubt they care if people continue to play ET after ETQW is released besides that ET was the game that helped them to get their foot into the industry big time.

ET will not die that fast. ET:QW will become for ppl who can afford a game and have the system for it. People who don’t like to buy games or don’t have the money for it, or not a good system will stick with ET. I really like ET as well, it only becomes boring for me now, but that was after 2.5 years and teh reason was completely different. The reason was a nice server getting down and because of that I lost my mates on the web playing ET as well. I think that made ET that good and still is good. Some points which made ET succesfull:

  • It’s free, everybody can just try it and many did and became adicted (like myself  )
  • Great gameplay, where do you see this these days? They are all going for nice graphics cuz ppl buy games looking at some pictures, but then the gameplay suxx as in many games. This makes also more ppl able to play ET.
  • the games is just so easy to handle. Maybe not that realistic as other games, but I like that, easy making headies while it’s still fun cuz objectives.
  • Last but not least: THE COMMUNITY!!! I really need to thank Bani for this! He did a great deal with ETPro. It made the game complete and made it better to play for a few years. It added the things teh game needed, but didn’t fuck up the game. Then the rest of the ET Comunity is great. Most of teh time friendly ppl who never met each other sometimes on a server, but then just playing together from the 1st seccond!

I really hope that SD learned from the mistakes they made in ET (missing things which make the game better liek pushing teammates and the chat flags etc.) just the little details. then I like the nice graphics, but reason #1 to buy a game for me is that the gameplay needs to be good, I really care about that since I grew up with it (and im only 17 :P) since the commodore 64 and DOS. Nice graphics werent possible, but gameplay was!

(carnage) #8

as tech moves on all games will eventualy be forgoten its just the way it works but there is nothing better than on a rainy day redescovering one of thoes old clasics. ET will be played at lans long after the online comunity is gone and if you look at rtcw there is still 2 comunites with about 200 peapole each even after ET. Im pretty sure ET will keep an even larger chunk than that

(Cerebrate) #9

Not completely sure where you’re getting at, but as soon as there are too many QW threads here then I’m out, because I have no interest in that game (UT with classes).

(kamikazee) #10

No, pre-Q2 with classes.

I’d say: don’t blame the game anything untill you’ve seen it. I’ve seen too much guys making statements as “just a BF2 wannabe”, “nothing new to see here, move on”, etc. I think this game is more then what those guys claim it is.

Maybe you’d change your mind after playing the demo?

I’m not talking about the actual quality of the game, but rather the genre.

(zeh) #12

If they’d gone ET:QW crazy they’d finally create the ET:QW subforum, which they haven’t yet.

(squadjot) #13

as Higgins @ #2 said… the games will be different… and will most likely not be used as a replenishment…but as a whole new game…
Et is free, build on a well known engine, w:ET does imo have the best foundation to stay , and have many years to come…
As competitive player…i find it hard to see how u can make a gameplay better than rtcw …it simply had it all…and maybe a little too much…but after a cleansing from OSP, then imo a comp game cant be made much better… -its fun to play… -its fun to look at… its simple… but still not “just” fraggin… its because of the succesfull gameplay…teamplay…interactions between classes, the whole environment… simply… unique till this date… imo. and ET did a good follow up to rtcw…but if u look at it as a game you can use/enjoy for e-sports… RTCW-model is just tiddy tad better… then we can discuss rtcw antilag code vs. ETPro…but leave it at that…
Now im not saying that QW:ET cant achieve a similar succes… or possibly RTCWII will… but to achieve same succes as they imo did with rtcw1, …well GL. …again… what is the criterias for succes… “how many people play the game” …yes maybe… but we all know its not that alone that will tell if its a good game…

edit: RtcwMpDemo was released …what 5-6 years ago?? and its STILL alive!!! (4 europe servers)…and its a -multiplayer DEMO game- ffs!!!. theres a whole community for demo players only… thats one of the things that shows its a succes… i could go on… but… all there is to say is RTCW > all… and i can still say that, alltho i played ET only for the last 2½ years…

(kamikazee) #14

I don’t know.
I had fun playing ET. Too bad I never bought RTCW… But I switched, and had fun with ET as well, not to say I had more fun with it since it’s a complete game for free. I think they are complementary, they both have good and bad parts.

It would be great if an MP demo was released for ET:QW as well, but I don’t have too much hope… Whilst RTCW got 2 mp test, id seems to release demo’s quite close to the game’s release lately.

(squadjot) #15

rtcw had 3 mp demo releases, and i dont think theyre are going to make full working mpdemos again, as we saw it with rtcwMpdemo… (the only thing it lacked were maps infact)…theres even build mods for rtcwMPdemo, someone build a anticheat server mod for it too…

they didnt make a q4mpdemo did they?

(carnage) #16

there is a q4 mp demo i play it often cos im too tight to buy the real game

(squadjot) #17

oh , i didnt know… ^^

(kamikazee) #18

I was pointing at the 2 MP Tests of RTCW, but they got even a demo with trenchtoast added IIRC. (I’m sure about the MP tests, played both of them, loved those.)

@Q4 demo: it was released a week after the game was released. We’ll probably won’t see any MP tests anymore, only demo’s after the game is released.
