How to set up THIS server?

(Redqueen) #1

Ok I want a 10 Map rotation, XP saving server that ONLY plays Fueldump.

What tools should I use to set up this server?

OMG! If I could define in one sentence my worst ET nightmare, that would be it. Please let me know IP so I can make sure to avoid it.

Why is that your worst nightmare?

yesssssss lets repair the bridge while the allies have the 2nd spawn allready, lets constantly repair the tank while the side is blown, lets blow both sides of the barriers while being a covert ops @ the roof! Great idea!

LOL, shouldn’t have posted really. “If you don’t like the idea stay the f*ck outta my thread” would’ve been a perfectly acceptable response…but since you ask.

Fueldump is bad enough coming at the end of a standard 3-map Campaign when Axis Field-Ops have sufficient XP to lay down Artillery almost constantly on the Bridge construction area. It’s quite common for a decent Axis team to spawn-camp Allies for the entire 30-minute round. Being spawn-camped, or doing the spawn-camping, for 5 hours gets pretty close to my idea of Hell I can assure you.

Even if Allies get the Bridge built and are outside the Fuel Depot in 5 minutes flat (which also happens), they’ll probably never plant at the Fuel dump itself, and round after round of spawn / run to depot / die is just as boring.

A 10-map Campaign featuring only 1 map is bad. Adding XP saver makes it doubly bad. Making the map Fueldump, well, like I say, Hell on an ET server. :frowning:

You say that but this server was offered by ILANGAME.Com and it was always full or almsot full.

Fueldump is the best map in ET.

You talk about XP’ed up Fieldops… But I’ve joined a game as an allied CVOP where everyone else was on like 700 xp and I had no problem taking out the signal men.

All you have to do is limit classes.

Sarcasm doesn’t suit you.

I’m sure it was, and indeed Fueldump was the map that came with Test and even I used to rack up 5 hours+ at a time and loved it. But then there are lots of ET servers that are full 24/7, mostly those running standard “vanilla” ET with the original 2 3-map Campaigns.

However, Fueldump is, in my opinion, the least balanced map in ET, meaning Axis will almost always win, and every round will almost always be a full 30-minute hold. I really can’t see how that’s fun.

When I saw your opening post my first reaction was “OMG I can’t think of anything worse”. But that’s my opinion, I’m 100% sure many others will disagree and your server will be full 24/7. Good luck with it.

Rubbish, that’s down to the team.

Winning as allies on fuel damp is piss easy, you can do it in under 5 mins with one eng and a cvops.

(Kendle) #10

You can do it, but it rarely happens. When I say stuff like Axis will almost always win perhaps what I should’ve said was In my experience Axis win Fueldump 9 times out of 10, because that is my experience, that’s what I’ve seen on the servers I’ve played on and continue to see.

With the greatest respect Mr.Magnetichead, as I see you’re in the UK, please visit the Campaign server in my sig, preferably when I’m on, and show me how Allies easily win Fueldump.

PS: Lunch break over now, gotta go do some work, bbl.

XP saver - youll need either etpro or shrubet mod

custom campaign - check nd80’s site [lost the link :/] and view some campaign files there to see how theyre done and then you should be able to figure how to do it, or try highboys’ utility for it (similar here).

Prolly want to set the server up in Objective Mode, since you’re only playing one map. Its good for clients since they don’t have to download anything. If you are using ShrubET, this is what your objectivecycle.cfg file would look like:

set d1 “clearxp ; map fueldump ; set nextmap d2”
set d2 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d3”
set d3 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d4”
set d4 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d5”
set d5 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d6”
set d6 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d7”
set d7 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d8”
set d8 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d9”
set d9 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d0”
set d0 “map fueldump ; set nextmap d1”
set g_gametype 2
set g_xpsave 7
vstr d1

Tag that at the end of your server.cfg so it automatically gets called on startup.

Only two special commands in that setup. The g_xpsave 7 means that XP will only be reset with the clearxp command. This happens at the start of the rotation in d1, so players have all 10 maps to whore it up.

You could possibly get away with only doing map_restart commands instead of reloading the map. The XP saver will still keep everyone’s XP until the clearxp command is given. It would speed things up nicely but I haven’t tested it before.

You can probably do the same thing with etpro. Check the documentation for a similar feature.
