How to place marker for mortars when field ops?

I have heard that the field ops can place a marker that will display on a person using a mortars screen so he can aim towards that direction. How can this be accomplished when you are a field ops?

I beleive the “marker” is just to show where a artillary strike was aimed, but I am not sure about that.

Artillery and airstrikes leave markers. That’s it. It kind of makes it pointless, since the area with a marker has already been hammered by air support anyway. Plus you don’t get the elevation, so aiming is not really any easier.

lol yeah thats true

Yeah the markers are from where a fieldOps had called an airstrike, so like stated above if ya target that exact spot, chance’s are that any enemys under marker are dead or have run from it. I find it helpful to know an area to target. If ya see strike marker, target where ya think people would run to or wait til strike is over and then target that area after enemy has moved back in. This is usually if there is no coverts in the enemy’s area. Coverts will let u see the enemy’s they can see on the command map/compass. Enemy’s ya can see are the ideal targets.

There has been a bunch a good stuff written in the forums here on mortars and ET4Dummies also has a great guide.

um no, once you get the spot (usually a heavy choke point) you can keep bombing that since people think the air strike is over…

doesn’t sound like you’ve used mortars that much…

According to the manual it’s only the arty strikes, not air strikes, that marks a target for the mortars.

“Calling in an Artillery Strike also issues the target’s map coordinates to any Soldiers on your team equipped with a Mortar. For the duration of the Artillery Strike, your designated target will appear on their Command Map and Mortar sights as a targeting reticule. Friendly Mortar Soldiers can then direct their firepower on to your target in addition to the Artillery Strike.”

Hmmm, I dont see “arty” strikes anywhere in the manual
