How to combat name stealing?

Hi all, I have a problem with a person who continues to name steal. :bash:
When we are playing, this person will change his name to someone elses on the same team, then he tks the team, then quickly changes his name and calls a vote to kick the other person, most of the other players are oblivious to the name changing as it doesnt come up on the screen.
I have asked the admin to turn on the no 2 names the same option but it hasnt happened yet.
Is there a way to stop the name stealer, becouse other then that the server is great.
I have heard if you put the ` (tilde key I think it is) the person cannot change their name whilst still playing the game becouse it brings down the consul.

is the only way, but putting a ` in front of your name is a bad idea

I just saw an “ETPlayer” connect and get kicked because there already was someone with that name on the server. :moo:

nodgam, sorry for being a noob, but what does this do? is it something I can put in or is it a server side command.
This person is pissing off a lot of people, I was the third person he caused to be kicked on one server today. Each time we try to kick him he changes his name very fast or he disconnects and reconnects straight away.

Its a server-side variable. So you need to have access to the server or rcon in order to set it.

Unfortunately, there’s little you can do as a standard client about this. Bring it to the server admin’s attention or post in their forums. But outside of that your best recourse is to go to another server that’s both configured better and regularly admined.

callvote kick is your friend.

i had this on a server playing northpole once where 2 guys copied 2 random peoples nicks then teamkilled once or twice and one of them chose me so I just made two nicks the difference being they were different colours and then binded them to k and j so everytime he changed his name i would just press either key to change my nick to a new one didn’t stop him from changing it manually tho lol
