How the wrench acts/works

(AntOO14) #1

Played the game for a few hours now after bying the legendary pack where i support SD with, i have come to an issue.

As playing as an engineer you have to press F to use, but isn’t it possible to use it as in ET where you really have to use it by holding left mouse button since this is a pc only game ? so no need for console commands like press X

Same with the C4 just throw it and then decide if you continue arming it since you could be in a fight.
Dont know if the engine allow this but it makes way more sence, again i really liked where i could press 5 and have my wrench ready switch to my gun to kill someone and continue “wrenching” same goes for the C4 which actually is the same as the good old dynamite wich you had to arm imo.

Who agrees or have a different opinion.

totally agree. there’s definitely too much F key shenanigans going on.
id prefer to select the correct tool and use.

“F” key just kill me …

F to start, F to stop.

So F’ing annoying, at least make it press-and-hold to start, release to stop.

I only know one game that uses the F button more and that is Brink. Didn’t like it there, don’t like it here. I would love to have an options as well to place the C4 wherever I want.

I agree; selecting the tool and using it like the rest of the weapons was always better than press ‘x’ to activate etc.

can be cool at home in front of the fridge : Press “F” to get a beer !
but in DB no way !

Give us the chance to select the c4 and place it and arm it when I want. Also give other Assaults the chance to finish a c4 arm. I hate the button pushing to do this and that.

(jRAD) #11

Can you articulate why you think explicit selection is better than “F” style?

(Kl3ppy) #12

First of all, the medic can pre select the defi, why cant the soldier preselect the c4?

Second, with preselect you can use the c4 on many places and not on the objective alone. In etqw its funny when u plant as a defender somewhere on the map, usually in an attacking route, a charge and wait till it explodes. Its always funny when you kill someone with that. At the comp level this is not necessary.

Third, I dont have a prob that there is the “F” Button, I sometimes use it when I get at the objective and didnt preselect because I had to fight. So removing isnt a good idea but just give us the chance to preselect it. Or is c4 planting everywhere not desired?

I have to agree that I have issues myself with the ‘tap to use’ element of the F key as I’m used to holding it in other games, so on release I expect to have my gun, not the item remaining there still performing the action. We’ll have another chat about it here at SD Towers and see if we want to change it.

(Volcano) #14

i think it would make a large majority of the objective players here very happy if it was to be changed

(warbie) #15

Using the F key is just horrible - it takes control away from the player and messes with consistency. Mouse 1 is my do things button - why do we have to use another? Pretty much any context sensitive F action is less satisfying than manually selecting a tool and using it when and where we want. Looks at how much more rewarding being a medic is in DB compared to Brink. And simply because playing DB after playing ET feels like an obvious step back in this regard.

For me, “F” is long gone from its default place to the more comfy side-button on the mouse. The main reason for that is the positional locking in using such a system, where using a keybind rather than the mouse limits my WASD reach. Bear in mind that some of us like to use PTT in our voicecomms*, so we need to have a button reserved for that somewhere within immediate reach and if possible to be used simultaneously with the movement/shooting binds, or at least somewhere that wouldn’t impair using those controls properly.

Having yet another important key overlapping that role is really undesirable. The old system with tool/item out + mouse to interact surely gets my vote. Plus it can be fun to pinch the enemy with the pliers.

  • I’ve yet to see a proper voicecomm noisegate implemented that works on a onboard soundcard. Unless you’re using pr0 mic preamps, we can argue forever about the noise ratios and mic heavybreathing.

At least me, as object n00b i find annoying this “F button issue” , its more fun when you use c4 when and where you want, also it requires few brains cells to plant it in a right place (missplants happens even with expirinced object noobs, but it part of the game).

(Bangtastic) #18

so the majority chooses to go for the slow old way huh^^ strange folks those gamers xD the always used E key is ofc a completely different story…

for me i would be fine with even more quick keys xD you know playing like SC2 thats awesome ^^ hmm but i dont get it why its annoying you only need one finger to press it oO rather then press 6 for C4 and left click on target

Edit: most of you have those fancy 20 button mice, use it xD

(warbie) #19

I think you’ll find the old way is quicker :stuck_out_tongue:

(Bangtastic) #20

call me insane ;), well since i dont care about key bindings, you have to wait until the cooldown ends to plant a c4 and so on. the only thing that annoys me that im used to different key bindings, thats all.^^
