Hello. This topic may seem dumb to many of you but I want to know how fun this game is?
Do many people play it, because as an old fan of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and the Quake Series I am seriously considering purchasing this game.
How is the multiplayer for ET:QW?
There are lots of players out there, all kind of levels too, from newbies to experts from occasional players to addicts, you ask if this game is fun?..well…YES!!! if you had fun playing ET:Wolf, you definetely will have tons of fun playing ET:QW. :stroggbanana:
ET:QW and W:ET are two different things though. ET:QW focuses in my opinion more on largescale combat whereas W:ET is much more tight and squad based, even though both have the objective based gameplay.
It costs less than 10 bucks. What’s there to consider?
I’d say you should have an open-minded look at it. Gameplay wise it’s not like ET or Quake but it has got a similar complexity and depth (which means you can spend hundreds of hours with it without having seen everything). Keep in mind though that for the first 6 hours or so you’ll have no clue what to do.
Its amazingly fun once you get into it. Like ridiculously. I know many people still playing this game day in day out and have been since release (is that 3 years?). But anyway yes its great. Only issue is as darthmob says, there is a learning curve, you will spend the first few hours a bit lost and get owned a bit, but as soon as you start to get the hang of it its brilliant
There’s a demo to try if you can’t decide, it features 1 map which you can play both online and with bots, but I’m not sure the demo has been updated to the latest version of the full game.
Keep in mind that there may not be many online players for the demo, and that the featured map (valley) is not the best one in my opinion. The full game has 12 maps out of the box, and a whole lot more if you join custom map servers.
Were you expecting something different, @Captain Pike? This is the ETQW developer’s fansite after all.
@Stroggafier no I wasn’t I have been bouncing around from forum to forum, I got some negative feedback at some, some so-so feedback from others, and so I felt I should round it off with some positive feedback. And then throw in some reviews and my personal preferences to help me come to my decision.
OK. Then in the interest of balance, I’ll say that ETQW is the only game I have played for over one year. Single player will get you oriented, then its multiplayer all the way. I like to play the PS3 version, but have been told that the PC online version is so unimaginably more fun that its makes me weak just thinking about it!

I’ve been playing this game almost daily since it was released 2 years ago and I’m still enjoying it.
I like the “rock, paper, scissors” approach the developers used in this game. There’s always a way to counter something, the drawback is that it will take a while to learn all the things that are possible in this game. Some might say the developers have overreached in this respect, but for me it’s one of the main reasons I’m still playing this game. There’s a lot of depth to it.
And it’s fun! And you can have some absolutely nail biting finishes on maps when the planets are aligned correctly and you have 2 decent teams fighting for it.
The community is small, but there are plenty of dedicated players. If you decide to buy the game, try a couple of the servers to find out which ones you like.
Dr. Funkenstein
All around, the game is enjoyable for a variety of playstyles, as long as you are willing to work with your team most of the time and know when you can afford to be go off on your own and do your thing and not have it hurt the team.
It can get boring if you just go and sit on a hill sniping all day or shooting rockets from way back and blowing up their closest deployables (and you’ll have no say when it comes to wether the team wins) but when you’re mostly playing for the objectives/defense and you are actively coordinating your play with a decent team the game has the capability to provide an endless amount of enjoyment and challenge.
The game is pretty well balanced for PC, but even if you don’t have even teams (in terms of skill and numbers) it can provide some great moments and a lot of tense action.
There is a ton to learn, and with the different classes and the asymetrical teams you can spend hundreds of hours learning how to be useful in every situation, team and map. The ability to have completely unbalanced class loadouts in pub games also adds some variety to the pot, and allows for groups of players to develop a teamplay style that works for them, and others to just play as what they want to be.
For example, due to the failings of your team, you might have to learn how to play without medics and conserve your health to be effective, or be forced to use a different class if you want the team to get the obj. It’ll never be the same twice, and I find that this really adds to the value of the game and helps me get better at certain classes that I’d normally not use much.
The built in VOIP is great, and the little HUD menu that allows you to call out enemy forces and quickly vsay all sorts of useful things to your team really adds to the teamplay value.
For the cost, the game is well worth it.
Yes it’s a great game, but I wouldn’t agree with some others that it’s not like ET. At it’s heart, it shares a lot of the feel of ET, but the vehicles and scale make it feel different. And even coming from ET, you will be lost at first, just give it patience and it will click.
It’s great game and I wish it was a hit so we would of had another sequel.
Having played ET it helped me with some of the concepts of ET:QW, but prior experience is not necessary.
Just buy a copy (cheap!) and get playing.
the only “teambased shooter” deserving that tag, imho. playing it since it came out. bought other stuff inbetween but etqw still shines.
edit: have not tested ze brink yet.
ps: use a microphone. there is some crazy babble going on in this game.
So, @Captain Pike, inquiring minds want to know…what was your decision? Did you get the game and play online? And if so, what do you think of the experience?

The first 20 hours I was just raging how the game sucked xD
I ABSOLUTLY LOVE THE GAME NOW AND I RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE STILL!
(I also give them the warning to hang in because they might hate it as first asswell :P)

Good. Welcome to the family…
ETQW is one of the most tactically sound and strategically demanding games you’ll find. I’m sure you’ll realize that in due time ^.^
