How fast the game pace that you want? [Poll]

(maggol) #1

Post how fast the BRINK’s game pace that you want? And take a poll about it

Very Slow (Armed Assault, Operation Flashpoint 1 and many other realistic based FPS)
Slow (Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, SWAT 4)
Medium (Call Of Duty Series)
Fast (Quake 3)
Very Fast (More than speed of light (kidding:D) faster than quake 3)

(Apples) #2

Is there anything faster than Q3?

Well the faster the better yay!

I can’t believe what kind of player that play somehing faster than Quake 3. I prefer medium speed, because it’s feel more realistic in my opinion

(Qhullu) #4

cpm woo! also Quakeworld

anyways, depends on what is meant with Quake 3 speed. default running speed would be great for light bodytype i think, but the speed at which Quake 3 is actually played at would be too fast for a game where action is concentrated to the immediate area surrounding an objective most of the time i think. voted fast.

(tokamak) #5

I want a varied amount of speeds.

(murka) #6

That you can has with diifferent bodytypes, where heavy is the slow of this topic and light is… not quite as fast as light.

(deems) #7

Where would ETQW fit in on this scale? Medium? ETQW hit the button on the head…or the nail on the button…or whatever.

(brbrbr) #8

ETQW speed should be good starting point to include ingame “gamemodes” speed/complexity alterations/mods in Brink.

p.s.
thats remind me both “Darwin Award” movie[episode with amateur racer ;-] and P. Oakenfold “speed” track.

(Diablo85) #9

Painkiller and Quakeworld are both faster than Quake 3.

I want this game to be as fast as ET:QW and ET. Judging from the gameplay movies it’s not nearly as fast though :(.

Since there will be differences in body armor gamespeeds the game should take a look at Team Fortess 2. The speeds of classes are well balanced in that game. The scout speed would suit the light armor. The demoman speed the medium armor and the heavy/soldier speed for the heavy armor.

(Spaiker) #10

ETQW speed would do just fine

(brbrbr) #11

yep.
and Brink “in general” can be better as “ETQW fork”, than “TF2 fork” , which we see in Brink promo-movies :[

(tokamak) #12

It should be lower than ETQW speed due to the smaller confinements.

(.Chris.) #13

Player speed yeah, game pace no.

(tokamak) #14

Sure, pace is something different and it should be lightning fast.

Don’t forget there’s no vehicles in Brink. When you are purely on foot a smallish map like sewer is even too big (in terms of getting a good push on the objective before it re-sets) on the first objective.

Since Brink is 100% on foot I don’t think ETQW speeds would necesserily be too fast but your point is that you have to take map size into account (or more properly distances from Spawn point to Objective points) when talking about movement speeds.

COD is too slow. So voting for the next one up even though it may be too fast (prefer ETQW speeds but I’m sure it’s because I’m used to it and I’d get used to something else). I just want to be able to strafe around effectivly when shooting.

(brbrbr) #16

wrong.
thats WHY SD introduce Barkour/Parkour in Brink game.
its can be even faster for “small” body build.
or be Q1-alike[faster for “medium” and slower for “heavvy” bodies/builds]for rest.

(.Chris.) #17

The only small maps in ET:QW are custom maps.

ET:QW sprint speed is pretty fast, I would say ET:QW infantry is faster than ET mainly thanks in part to unlimited sprint, the thing that slows down the game pace in ET:QW though is the size of the maps and having to deal with vehicles, deployables, no sprint shooting and so on.

In Wolf 2009 the player speed was quite slow but the maps where quite small so it almost suited, it still was perhaps too slow and in WolfPro we upped it a little but at first we tried using ET:QW and ET equivalent speeds, they where ridiculously too fast and simply didn’t work, sadly when we refused to add ET speeds we received a fair bit of flame for not wanting to make ET2…

(Cankor) #18

OK, yeah, so it has to be dependent upon map sizes and distances between spawns (or related as you could tweak either of the 3 or more likely all together). I think one of SD’s trademark’s is a fast game, so despite some of the earlier vids I’m not too worried. Some of the later vids in which you could see guys sliding and shooting looked like they were moving at a decent pace.

(xdc) #19

maggol has it wrong

very slow - americas army
slow - call of duty
medium - call of duty
fast - etqw, wolfenstein
ver fast - quakeworld, q3, q4, ut

brink should be faster than call of duty, around the speed of etqw/wolfenstein if not faster with the new movements

UT3 + My mutator.

Although as I’m discovering faster != better
Also that there’s “other” factors to take into account that effect the pace(or perception there of)
For instance the fov of 130 will appear to be faster than a fov of 75. The levels will appear to be stretched out and give you the impression that your running faster and covering “more distance”

The other one is people’s adaption to speed, if you ride on the highway for a period of time and slow down drastically in town, it’s gonna feel like your standing still. You can actually mimic this feeling in an UT instagib match with a speed mod. As soon as you take it off the game will feel much slower than you’d think it should feel. One does recover after a while though and the game will appear to be back at normal pace even though nothing really changed.
