How Do You Like The New Lobby?

(Szakalot) #121

you’re reading into it way too much.

Its not about promoting solo-play. Its not about denying people to play with friends. Its about when is the game balanced during the end-game-lobby-start of game. Thats it.

This is an interface issue, not an ideological one. If SD figures out how to let friends play - they will.

(PurpleNurple) #122

It’s a symptom that was introduced with the new lobby. Whether they meant it as a way to promote solo play or not it’s still affecting a good amount of people in a negative way. I’d even compromise and say remove the auto balance from min 10 servers and leave it on normal servers, but allow low level players to join min 10 if they join through another lvl 10+ friend . Have uncoordinated players play against uncoordinated players.

Also to the people saying “just play stopwatch”, I’ve never heard someone ask to play stopwatch that wasn’t followed by so I can finish this mission. Very few people play stop watch because they like it.

(Szakalot) #123

what symptom?

games were unbalanced as fuck. For over a year. Its significantly better now, I haven’t seen a single spawncamp+fullhold yet.

I’m completely fine with having server browser = play with friends, quickplay = present lobby, it would be a good way to address the issue. If you quickplay your probably solo, and if you want to play with buddies you’d probably use the browser anyways.

(PurpleNurple) #124

That’s a good idea as well. There are many ways to fix this, but the thing is they should not have introduced auto balance without a way to play with friends as well. That’s what most of us are so flustered about.

(kibloy) #125

Just thought I’d post feedback here:

The chat colors in the lobby are confusing as hell. If you are in the red team, and someone in the blue team types in chat they show up as red (because they’re enemies).

Either always show my own team as blue or don’t use friendly/enemy colors as defense/attack.

(Yes) #126

I wish our names would show up at the top of the team we are on, instead of having to look through to where it was randomly put. Listing everyone else alphabetically would be great too.

I really like that they made it quicker to switch loadout for a merc in your squad. The UI is still slow though.

My team full held three different games the other day and I was the only person over lvl 20. I know youre not saying it cant happen but I would venture to say it still happens quite frequently.

I would also like to say that in the games I have played since the patch, I saw way more high lvls being on the same team than it being mixed. Now Im sure as a whole its better than it was but for 2 hours of play and literally always playing with 10’s or below, I felt like it still needs improvement. More min lvl 10 servers might fix this to a degree

People don’t use the existing min level 10 servers. Addming more of them will not help.

The autobalance does not balance by level. It balances by performance over the last 10 games. So yes, high level players can be placed together.

As an added note, it does not balance players as they join the match, Only right before the match starts.

This means if there are leavers the new players joining will not be balanced. And when teams are even a player is automatically placed on the attacking team upon joining.

(Jurmabones) #130
the fact that games are a lot more balanced since the patch is going against your argument. If stacking was not an issue, we would not see such a huge difference in average game quality.

And take a chill-pill. SD ARE LISTENING - there will be reliable ways to play with friends, one step at a time, pls. In the meantime - enjoy (more) balanced casual objective.
I still see plenty of stomps going on. All the new lobby system did was make it so you can’t swap teams before the match starts (and obviously you can’t during the match until your team has extra players on it). I still see land-slide victories, I still see plenty of full holds on defense.

SD should’ve figured out how to let friends play together before implementing the new system. Saying “if they figure out how to let friends play - they will” doesn’t change or excuse the fact that friends can’t play together currently.

(OmaGretel) #131
 • Map vote timer is too short
 • Swapping loadouts is much easier now, but personally I never really needed that. It should instead be easier and faster to swap mercs instead, imo.
 • You are not highlighted in any way in the player list. Being on the red team is very counter-intuitive.
 • There is a useless timer, after the mercs have been locked in. Why do we have to wait that long, if we can’t change anything anymore? Start the match right after the mercs are locked in, please.
 • As has been said quite often already: We should be allowed to change mercs after the teams are locked.
 • We need a party system.

That being said, me and my friends have only played once since the update. It’s not even that we rage-quit. It’s just that it’s so uncomfortable that we have chosen to play another game instead, where we are not punished for having a good time together.

And don’t even get me started on stopwatch. 15 minute holds on the first objective are just stupid and boring for both sides. That alone keeps me away from stopwatch.

(Matuno) #132

-It’s massively confusing. When you connect to a game in progress, you can’t see what map they’re CURRENTLY on unless you paid attention to the screen backdrop while loading.

-There is no quick way to see if you’re attacking or defending. Haven’t figured the colours out, assuming I can even find my name.

-Merc picker takes some getting used to. Being able to quickly switch between available cards for an already selected merc is great, but I feel that this new system could have been designed better.

-You can’t quickly see how much time you have left to pick a new merc. The timer in the top-right often shows the wrong time.

-Map voting isn’t visually clear enough and assumes the player knows what it does. Could do with some clarification.

Overall (and this is harsh), from a designer point of view, I genuinely think the old lobby screen was better, and that current additions could have been augmented to that instead.

(asparagusMist) #133

colours are too bright . CANT PLAY WITH FRIENDS ANYMORE ON SAME TEAM !

whole reason i play this game is with my friends !

now you taken away that option. very stupid idea.also voting options for maps dont seem right or as good as before.

infact the whole change has just made it worse.

you need it simple to join.quick.no time wasting and simple to vote, join friends.

no flashy flashy just simple function over looks .

(opicr0n) #134

I think all change is met with 33% dont like, 33% like and 33% dont care.

(Halosheep) #135

I think I should mention I don’t hate it, I just see some flaws that make me dislike it more than like it. I’m a fan of the look aesthetically, some people don’t like bright colors but I’m all for it. Bright and Neon is fun. Functionally it’s better in some ways, and worse in others.
List of reasons I voted the way I did:
-Harder to tell how many people are on each team without counting first (it’s not HARD, just harder than before) I suggest some space between the two teams on the menu.
-All I want to do is play with friends, and now I can not do so easily.
-I often forget to vote on the next map, or don’t notice the voting timer with the new layout. This may be just because I’m used to the previous setup
-There are 2 different ways to change loadout card, but only one small button to change character. The issue with the previous menu was not that it was hard to change cards, but that it was difficult to change merc and choose a card quickly enough. I’m not sure why you would ever need to change loadouts for a specific merc unless you’re someone like Sniff who can just change between his billion cobalts to taunt people, so I’d rather there were two ways to change merc and one way to change loadout.

Edit: made my thoughts sound more coherent and fixed some typos.

I bet no one who is saying simply “can’t play with friends” as it’d be absolute truth on page 5 here has even glimpsed the discussion that raged on 3-4 pages.

For heavens and Ctulhu’s sake laddies, when did videogaming start to resemble kindergarten football or you-name-it-whatever-the-sport “contests” where everyone got a diploma and chocolate medal (except that hit-the-genetic-jackpot diabetic kiddo) for simply participating or just kicking rocks around the audience area, everyone won and lived happily ever after and didn’t have to feel bad because hey everyone’s a winrar?

Playing with friends can never include playing on opposite team as them and still see the ways how that said situation can be enjoyable? What happened to sportsmanshippy attitude, clashing your verbal and hand-eye-co-ordination skills against each other’s every once in a while. “Well bloody darn you lucker, you beat me this time but let’s see how well that smirk on yer face stays on the next round when ya find yourself hanged from a tree from that sad sack you call a pair?”

Some duo’s like to merge into each other like a symbiotic mushroom-on-plant organism orighty, still not hard enough to hop into other team with them and hit bum against a bum together. I think current state of modes has just the right amount of “something for everyone” feel to it and is getting all the better once something is done to the lobbies so that ones joining afterwards get better shuffled too.

Despite the ramble there I don’t hate duo’s. I do play with quite welded together group, with some persons playing hilariously tight together like siamic twins with two minds and one set of organs, and it’s quite amusing to play both on same team and opposite team as them. As long as I’m playing bloody WITH them.

I’ve been away for a week and only just found about this update, so it seems I’ve missed most of the brew har har. I’m not what you’d call a hardcore gamer anymore, but I do put in a fair few hours a week and most of those are into DB. It’s the best shooter I’ve played for a while, being an old school quake world and then ET player, the arena style games are up my alley, and there are so few good ones to come out these days. Short sharp rounds where pure skill in aim, movement and team co-ordination in a fire fight are rewarded over finding a position and camping out a round win. It’s a shame to see DB ruined so completely for me and casual gamers of my ilk, such as my friends.

They play a fair bit less than me, there are 4 of us who might get together as a whole group maybe once a week. But I’d probably play with one or two of them two or three times a week. We want to play objective and we want to play together. We are now looking for another game, and it’s killing me because I love DB. I’m not saying the issues this update are trying to address are not important, but it’s at the expense of the community. My mates are out. They are now actively looking for the next game, so I’ll be going with them. Argue we could play stopwatch or competitive or private all all you want, it’s no dice. The fact is they don’t want to or it’s impossible or stupid to do with four people. They will no longer be playing DB, so neither will I. This is a cold hard fact, and by reading the forums over the last hour, it looks like I’m not alone. So with a heavy heart, I post for the first and probably the last time. Best of luck DB community.

Peace out

Turtle.

I’m sorry to hear that, but I would like to remind you, your friends and everyone here that the game is OPEN BETA and no change is final.
Everything can change. So If you really like the game, just come back sometimes and take a look if the lobby isn’t different in the future.

EDIT: from SD forums

Thanks for the great feedback, we’re looking at refining the lobbies based on comments from all areas (reddit, forums, steam etc), they are by no means final and there is certainly more we can do to improve the flow.

Playing with friends is still vitally important to us, and we are working on a more comprehensive solution for this for future updates, our primary goal was to try and provide more balanced games, which we have made some ground towards.
