Its not free, but with XG1 you can rent servers daily: http://xg1.de

E.g. 32 slots:
daily payment: €1.19 per day
monthly payment: €21.55 per month

Its a German hoster, so servers are located in Germany and the website is in German.

If you open the correct ports on your router/firewall and know how to set up the game server, it’s very easy to host a server for LAN parties and such.

Hosting from your own connection is far from ideal unless you have ~1Mbit or higher upload, a spare PC to the one you game on to run the dedicated server on and don’t use your connection much… most home connections will only support 4-8 players and give far from ideal playing conditions if you play from the same PC as the server or use your connection much for anything else…

Short of a sponsorship deal (which wouldn’t only be applicable to high profile clans) you aren’t likely to find a free server host.
