For a server ? you will need a mod installed…and that will lead you to a longer road of learning server admin with the mod !!!
Most popular for ET are :

Shrub 1.2 (xp save works but server does funny things sometimes)
ETpro (proabaly your best bet to get this activated unless ETPUB is up and going, you may want to check that out too.

IMHO, etpro with etadmin is the best way for a pub server, or even a clan server that wants some “fun” options

If you want permenant XP save then shrub is the answer, if your not so keen on perm xp save then you can try et pro, but this will only allow a maximum of 10 maps in a campaign before the xp resets.

Put this command in your server cfg file: set g_xpsave “7”

FYI, if you want an even longer XP save, try etpub with g_xpsave 7 or g_xpsave 15 and run in objective mode. It won’t reset XP (usually) until 64 more new people jump on after you’ve logged off.
