DOOM was my first 3D-game, and I still play it:
How did you get into online FPS games?
Sounds like you’ve all been at gaming from the beginning… poor people!
my first game i played was Medal of Honor Allied Assault and stepped over to ET from that one.
Though i did own RtCW when i was all nuts on MoHaa, and i remember trying it online over and over agian but it always stopped at awaiting chellange. So i never bothered playing RtCW after i completed the Single Player part of it.
It’s weird that im the first one to bring up Medal of Honor in this thread, i’ve had some great times with that game and i think i would have still been playing it (or CoD) if ET wasn’t free.
for SD for not letting me pay to play ET!
well I have played MOH I wasn’t impressed with it after being spoilt on RTCW
I’ve been playing FPS since Wolfenstein 3D, the first games I every played against somebody else (FPS wise) was DOOM/DOOM2 just over the modem, and it wasn’t until RtCW Test 1 that I played any game over the internet (that’s when I finally got a cable connection). Since then I haven’t looked back… well… I’ve been playin DOOM2 over the net since, heheh.
So first FPS == Wolfenstein 3D
First FPS Online == Return to Castle Wolfenstein
I got into online FPS through ET. Had played others before, but they all seemed to be more like a game of ants scurrying around and around a map not actually getting anywhere, killing each other then respawning so the death meant nothing and so on… Half Life, Quake, Soldier of Fortune, all the same… then God gave us ET! Only problem is, now other games seem empty. Ever played CoD or FarCry multi… yuck.
I got into quake3 through a friend borrowed his CD then got a keygen off net and started playing onlinenever once looked at the single player part of it then when I was on AIM one say someone instant messaged me saying have I tried a new free fps game called ET gave a little poke at the website and downloaded it =O.
Here’s my brief FPS online history:
I played Unreal Tournament on a buddy’s computer, in single-player, before I got a machine that had the power to run it. Eventually, that changed and I got it myself. Played it constatnly online with a 28.8 modem.
Then, I didn’t play anything seriously online till ET came out, which is one of the game I’ve played the most, ever. I now have ADSL, so things fare much more smoothly. I was never a part of the RTCW community.
Now, I almost solely play Call of Duty. I love the game, although I don’t think I can ever get as good at it as I were at ET.
Of course, I’ve played Doom and a little CS on LANs, but that doesn’t count.
The next thing could be HL2, Doom 3 or STALKER, but it could also be RTCW 2.
RTCW 2 would seriously rock, but what storyline? i feel the RTCW storyline was a bit stupid tbh, just hope n pray
althought WW2 fanstasy was a frikken good idea, whoever thought of that needs a raise
Who cares? It’s the multiplayer we’re all waiting for.
has there been any word on rtcw 2 ? The only thing i’ve heard was a vauge reference/rumour on a tech forum about the fact it will use ps3 shaders … nothing else … obscure eh?
Just finished playing doom I, I’m doing doom II right now
Heretic and Hexen are to follow (I WILL be prepared for doom III :D)
All with this great engine:
Adds openGL and direct3D, cool graphic effects (flares and glow and stuff like that), high resolutions, mouse support, windows support and whatnot. And you can download high-res textures and skin packs from their site. Check it out if you still have your doom laying around somewhere
There are always people on forums on the Internet TALKING about supposed rumours, unable to back it up with proper references. Most likely, there will be a RTCW 2 within five years though.
I care about storylines.
That said, most games’ could have been written by an enthusastic teenager.
So you must have really hated RTCW.
Actually, I care too, but only in RPGs and adventure games.
im really expecting great things from the D3 engine, what i want to see though is its competition with the engin that powers FarCry, that things graphics make smoke come outa my computer
I always press esc., or space, or whatever to skip the movies that tell you about key concepts in the storyline, just to get back to the fragging. Of course, im always wondering where I am and what Im doing in maps, and why I have to do these seemingly random objectives, and what the ending means, but hey, thats what gives me a reason to play the SP part of a game over again…to figure out wtf is going on
Exactly the same here blackdeath. If I want a story, I’ll watch a movie or read a book.
The most annoying are the games where you can’t skip the cutscenes, specially in combination with a missing save function. AAARGH :banghead:
