How can I play Enemy Territory Wolfenstein online?

(br8ecm) #1

Everytime I try playing online, I see the list of servers, choose someone and then I have to download something (*.pk3) which almost doesn’t work (0kb downloaded).

Always the same problem as you can see here:

I am using et-linux-2.60.x86 + 2.6patch.

I have already set cl_allowdownload 0 but it doesn’t help.

THank you!

I think that should be allow_download 1

(br8ecm) #3

The default-setting was cl_allowdownload 1 , but it also didn’t work.

Why do I need to download something? Is there any patch, so I already have everything?

Yet it is unplayable :x

if you cant download, download them externally, use google to find maps and put them in your etmain folder or select some other server that hasn’t got much custom files.

(senator) #5

sounds like a problem wih your Firewall. See whether you have to open some ports to allow ET to download additional files (disable the FW for testing purposes)

(Darkfrost) #6

You dont have to download anything.

It’s just the server you are on has something you need to download.

These files are normally maps, or campaign files, or skinpacks… etc.

:S well duh,

Why you think you need to download?
You need the maps that the server runs ey!? :o

(Nail) #8

download and install etpro manually, not all servers have it on redirect, then get maps you need

(murka) #9

some setting about WWWdownload, check that out, it should be 1.
edit:found it, cl_wwwDownload 1

(br8ecm) #10

The settings seems to be okay, but I can’t play… same problem as posted

seta cl_allowDownload “1”
seta cl_wwwDownload “1”

(senator) #11

Have you tried that?

If you aren’t telling us what you’ve tried so far it will be very hard to help you.

Sometimes a reconnect helps, bring down the console and type /reconnect

Can you play on server where you don’t have to download additional files ?

Can you download from some server?

i’ve never played on linux and i’ve never even touched on a computer with linux OS (well macs don’t count right?), so correct me if this is a silly idea:

get the ET Pack @ xfire:
http://www.xfire.be/?x=tutorial&mode=item&id=21

it’s a zip file with all the files you need (well, the basic stuff anyways) to play W:ET online. just unpack and play.

dunno if it’s compatible or not, but well, it’s the easiest way to get ET up and running for PC, hope it works for linux aswell.

there already is a linux 2.60 installer:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/et/linux/et-linux-2.60.x86.run

You’ll still need to grab 2.60b as well.
