Honest initial impressions

Au revoir, run back to your CoD community and tell them not to buy Brink

(Striker92) #22

“i played for a few hours and got didnt understand it or comprehend it totally within that time frame, SD is the Devil and you all suckl”- pretty much sums up this post and i reckon there will be more like that to come

(DarkangelUK) #23

Not everyone is going to like the game, there’s a scale to everything. Some will love it, some will be fine with it, some will think it’s poor, and some will hate it… here we have someone that hates it. You can’t honestly be surprised that someone hates the game. Sure he’s being a childish moron by saying he’ll stop people buying it instead of letting them experience it for for themselves, that’s just his failing as a human being, but he’s allowed an opinion… and more so… he’s allowed to not like it.

(Ragoo) #24

I don’t believe you. I don’t think anyone can judge the maps this fast.
Maybe I’d trust .Chris. or some ET pro if he said so, but then again the game is not even 1 day old lol

(ThePilgrim101) #25

I’m fine with math, you just need help with logic.

If something is bad, why on Earth would you want more of it? If I have the choice between twenty horrible diseases or eight, then I’m going to pick eight. Likewise, if all twenty of the maps are horrible, why would I want that compared to eight horrible maps that I can at least get to experience and learn as opposed to having to get paired into a random map that I haven’t learned?

Again, do you want to eat more or less s***? I’m beginning to think you were dropped on your head as a child…that or you have AIDS.
This guy turned from someone who prematurely judged the maps to a crying baby that already made up his mind about a multiplayer game and its community after playing for some hours.

Can’t say I am sad he is gone.
Again, soil sample.

However this community is as dense as it is pathetic it seems. 8 hours and 49 minutes ago I was the guy leading the “IM SO PUMPED HERE WE GO BROTHERS” thread.

Now I’m the “crying baby that prematurely judged the maps”

I ask you this … Perhaps I’m the gamer that bought the game and realized the maps are garbage? It seems that not a single soul on this forum shares my same sentiment yet the reviewing majority is giving this game low marks? Look on any other forum other than Splash Damages’ and you will see similar comments.

Furthermore if you had any sort of reading comprehension you would see that I in fact think the game is brilliant. This is a thread about how crappy the map design is. I don’t care if SD hired some “famed” map designer or not the fact remains, these maps suck.

All I wanted was to have some epic maps to play on but you gaming Neandrothals seem content defending what is essentially COD / Killzone 2 map design … but worse sadly.

If I was in charge of a game with a unique class system and objective based gameplay I would have put a little more effort into … I dunno, designing the areas where all of this action takes place?

It’s fine guys, keep supporting archaic game design. Surely that will further our favorite pastime.

Wait I thought you said you signed off forever.

(DarkangelUK) #28

Whats your examples of good map design? Obviously I can’t say about Brinks maps but I’d like to hear what you consider good map design.

You are a comedian sir. You are more than that, you are a hillarious idiot. If I could have the choice between 8 terrible maps or 20 I would take 20 … know why? I’ll give you a lolipop after I explain so that I may hold your attention. 20 bad maps gives me more variety than 8 bad maps.

Do I really need to come down to your idiotic 4th grade level to make this any more clear? You are easily the dumbest person I have had the displeasure of dealing with this month. Grats. Now go get that “special” syndrome taken care of (not judging, just do it)

“It’s fine guys, keep supporting archaic game design.”

Coming from someone who holds CoD map design as progressive.

(prophett) #31

Initially I was kind of turned off, but the more I played and got used to the movement and shooting, the more I liked it. Granted, it has bugs/issues like any game, but based on previous games Splash Damage has released, I fully expect them to be fixed in a reasonable amount of time.

I played ET competitively for years and am as skeptical as most serious ET guys. Those searching for “ET with updated graphics” are not going to be happy with it because Brink is it’s own game. Also, pure Call of Duty players need to completely change their play-styles/mind sets and adapt.

Remember to unlock the console and your fps, as well as some other tweaks. I am sure there will be many more to come as we learn more about the game.

First hour or so of playing = 2 out of 5
After 5-6 hours of playing I enjoy it more and more and would have to give it a 3.5 or 4 out of 5, with room for improvement, of course.

(linspatz) #32

While I’ve only played for about two hours and only on the first 3 resistant maps. Played 1 or 2 of them twice. But I’ve found plenty of flanking opportunities. Most of them are not straight forward though. To flank you end up going a bit out of the way before you get back to the action. I found them mainly by watching the way everyone else was running and wondering, well whats down that other way. The first few times I gave up and ran back because it seemed like I was just going away from the objectives but when I finally followed through I ended up just left of where the rest of my team was fighting the enemy. My greatest joy was finding a vent to crawl through. With a little effort I ended up poking my head out right above the enemy and getting myself a few easy kills.

The 3rd map where you defend the crane has some pretty open areas too. Enemies seemed to come from every direction on that map and so did I. I think your judging the game before you really look into how the maps need to be played. They are not just open areas like war based games are. You have to be tricky!

(Angrim) #33

What you don’t seem to get is that only because you say the maps are really bad does not make it a fact. As you pointed out yourself you have no real qualification/credibility for a truly objective judgement. You are neither a map designer nor are you a known player of any sort.

Why should we believe you over the W:ET/Quake Wars/ESL players that already played the game and liked or loved the maps? Why should I believe you over my own judgement of the only map I played - Container City - which made an amazing first impression.

Expecting strangers to value your word over everything else they heard and getting angry if they don’t is just stupidly childish.

(ThePilgrim101) #34

Ah, glad we cleared that one up.

Now we can get back to more pressing issues…like…teasing you about your lack of intelligence.

Come on now, no need to act equally offensive over nothing at all.

(Hyrage) #37

To help…

(Angrim) #38

Well, you cannot know what he thinks is good map design, can you?

(Cornboss) #39

Good map design is subjective just like anything like say a movie … however an expert in film can tell you why a movie sucks just as an expert in map design could fluently tell you why a map sucks.

I am no expert in either however I know a good movie from a bad movie. I know a good map from a bad map. Feeling? Experience? I’m not sure. As I’ve stated, I am no map designing professional (even if this game makes me think I could be)

What makes a good map? Not sure. It depends on the game. The maps for any specific game should reflect the gameplay specifically intended by the developer.

Brink is a game all about parkour and freedom of movement. Why the hell am I constantly fighting in what looks like a shopping mall full of corridors? It makes no sense.

Imagine a map in a Battlefield game that took up the space of a baseball field with 5 tanks on each side. It wouldn’t be conducive to the gameplay.

That’s what happened with Brink. Great engine, great guns, awesome movement, sweet classes … short sighted map design.

It would be one thing if only a couple maps in Brink were like this.

In fact, at least in Bad Company 2’s case, some maps are narrow and feature no vehicles whatsoever. Those are in fact the worst maps in the game.

Brink’s maps are all “Battlefields narrrow, non-vehicle type maps”

 • Read : not fitting for the overall gameplay

(ThePilgrim101) #40

Wasn’t offensive.

I asked him that question forever ago and he responded that twenty maps would give him more variety. However, when boiled down to the core, he’s still basically saying he’ll eat several different types of feces than not at all.

Essentially, I’m just paraphrasing at this point…just in a way that makes me lol.

I tried being civil. He chose to be moronic. I can’t know - for sure - what methods I’ll use afterwards.
