Holding pistols sideways.

(BioSnark) #41

I don’t think holding pistols sideways would add anything, stylistically or otherwise, to the game. However, realism shouldn’t be a deciding factor when considering features. I think being able to loot/buy/select/etc a second pistol to duel wield is an interesting way to evolve a basic sidearm, regardless of how useful it would be irl.

In UT classic holding the pistol sideways was a higher fire rate at the cost of ihavenoclue.

realism…

(brbrbr) #44

good point.
and good usage[in CQB]. many times defeat RL&DL&IC players when out of ammo[of main gun]this way.
but its only ONE possible way to use/tweak usage of pistols[as well as main weaponry, too, btw].

(Jess Alon) #45

I could see maybe shooting sideways while sliding. But no efficient fighter in their right mind would use a weapon like that.

(H0RSE) #46

I want to hold a mingun and shoot it sideways - with one hand.

(BioSnark) #47

you can shoot a minigun with no hands in quake wars.

(Jess Alon) #48

H0RSE, they love you over on the Bethesda forums.

sure, alt-fire[there may be SEVERAL alt-fire modes, depending characters customizations AND bodytype AND class selection AND movement mode[ie SMART-alt-fire SHOULD be different], might be more than “just one” variation/deviation of basic fire, with different advantages/drawbacks.

heavvy bodytype soldier can do it even in jump, even parachuting and skiing.
holing girl in one hand and beer in another… oh wait…

good story too.
also when player sideroll evade otherway, both firing and firing animation can be different. really different.

From what I’ve heard sideways shooting was actually developed my militant forces in the middle east.

It can actually be used efficiently if your target is moving sideways. The gun then recoils with them and allows for greater accuracy on targets moving horizontal.

greater accuracy on moving targets? doubt it, wouldn’t it be far easier to follow a moving target with your gun making spastic moves upwards instead of in the same direction?

Ah yes… it was part of the training that also included shooting up at the clouds… DAMN those clouds… Why won’t they just DIE???

(signofzeta) #55

like all of the resistance faction?

(tokamak) #56

I think it’s inappropriate to refer to this picture as a good representation of resistance orientated players.

(Apples) #57

I think a picture of a kid holding a gun in a third world country is allways inapropriate… I’m gettin softer these day… I think I’m gettin old.

Peace

(tokamak) #58

Our newspaper featured a whole series of poor kids playing with rifles, and I thought it was shocking until I realised that they probably love to play ‘war’ as much as western kids do, only they don’t have anything to play violent video games on.

No, what’s sad is the underlying pattern, kids playing with guns usually don’t have access to education.

(Apples) #59

Maybe for some, but most of the time they are drugged kids taken by the milicias to serve as cheap and fearless braindead soldiers.

The situation in Africa is a bitch…

(tokamak) #60

Oh right, no, I’m talking about parents in such countries giving their kids empty/broken/secured guns for them play with. The sad thing here is that those kids will likely be playing soldier for the rest of their lives.

Kid soldiers is an entire different tragedy altogether.
