Because Splash Damage doesn’t hire idiots.

(lennyballa) #3

and because you should use the search feature, wich will give you around 500 results i believe

(chavo_one) #4

If you follow the link that someguy has provided you will see that the half-life2 code was leaked today. This thread was created with sarcasm in mind.

(lennyballa) #5

i was also talking sarcasm :stuck_out_tongue:

Leaks are a very unfortunate thing. To want it to happen is even more of a shame. It does seem to be happening more often now though. It’s sad really.

(MuffinMan) #7

i’m not at all interested in having the source for half life when i can’t use it, what’s interesting for me is a 3d-engine that is free to use as a private person for own projects like the chrystal space engine

(sock) #8

Please do not post any illegal links to games software.

From Gamespy 10/03/03

Valve Confirms Half-Life 2 Code Exposure. - Rhoam
Managing Director Gabe Newell of Valve Software confirmed on Halflife2.net that the source code for one of the most anticipated titles in recent history, Half-Life 2, has been stolen and posted on the internet.

According to Newell, the company has been the victim of a concerted attack by infiltrators using denial of service attacks and keystroke recorders to penetrate the network and copy the source tree for Half-Life 2.

"What I’d appreciate is the assistance of the community in tracking this down. I have a special email address for people to send information to, helpvalve@valvesoftware.com. If you have information about the denial of service attacks or the infiltration of our network, please send the details. There are some pretty obvious places to start with the posts and records in IRC, so if you can point us in the right direction, that would be great.â€?
â€?We at Valve have always thought of ourselves as being part of a community, and I can’t imagine a better group of people to help us take care of these problems than this community.â€?

Gamespy will continue to report any developments on this issue as more information becomes available.

People thatdo shit like that are fucking computer GEEKS!!! that dont have anything better to do then fondel themselfes and steal money from honestpeople like sock :bump:

(Irrelevant) #12

:bash:

LART LART LART

:twak:

That was an entirely unprovoked sectarian attack. I think you’ll find the people you are referring to as ‘geeks’ fit closer into the category of Crackers, Phreaks, and Lamers.

Seriously, the misuse of ‘hacker’ is bad enough, but ‘geek’? That’s just moronic, especially on a forum frequented by coders.

:bump:? I’ll give you :bump:.

([B]Visa) #13

Well I think the worst part to me is that on the day of release, when I get on to frag some online for the first time, there could (and probably will) be at least a few working cheats out there already :banghead:

(system) #14

Its a bad thing but telling and promising people “we will definitly release it at blabla” is bad too.
So some people who were looking forward to a game will be very disapointed and maybe angry.
I think valve already knew that they couldn’t hold 30.sep.03 a while before they finally announced the delay.
So they didn’t play with open cards and thats the result.

But stealing code is such a dimension is no answer for pushing the hype.

edit:
Beeing so lazy with the own computer-system is foolish…

(Machine for to kill) #15

see the problem with this is that we the gamers suffer the most from this because now multiplayer is going to be flooded with cheats. It doesn’t really affect valve cause all the people that were going to buy the game are still going to buy the game, so they make their money either way…The real question here is how much code was leaked…did they get the game engine code…or did they just steal some AI routines here and there. If the game engine code is now freely available then the whole hype about the HL engine now is useless cause anyone can just duplicate it without having to pay the $300,000 to lease it. However if the game comes out and it’s flooded with hacks and cheats…like some other games then I’ll probably not buy it…

This conversation doesn’t even belong in this forum…we all know that Enemy Territory is the best game that ever was, is, and ever will be so what’s the difference.
GO SPLASH

(Ao1SYS) #16

Why? It is still going to be an incredible leap in technology for a SP game. In my opinion, it would be worth the price of the game even without MP. I’m willing to wait and see what happens with cheats etc. I’d be willing to bet that Valve can come up with some ways to minimize the damage of the leaked code.

I disagree. It is relevant to the entire gaming community. It’s being reported by mainstream news outlets and discussed on EVERY gaming forum out there. How can you say it is not relevant? That would be like saying that a discussion of car thieves does not belong on an automotive board. If this sort of thing were widespread, it could severely limit future game development, how is this not relevant???

As for ET being the best game ever, I can’t argue with you there but you are a fool if you think that there will never be a better game. I happen to know someone who said the same thing about Pac Man. Thank God he wasn’t right about that one…

(rgoer) #17

So true–about a year later, some MIT kids hacked together a game called “Ms. Pac-Man” and sold it to Midway. “Ms. Pac-Man,” by the way, is without doubt “the best game that ever was, is, and ever will be.” If you disagree, you simply haven’t played it enough.

(Irrelevant) #18

I know I’m helping this wander off-topic, but…

What’s the difference between Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man (apart from the obvious graphical changes)? I’ve never been able to tell.

(colic) #19

It would not matter if the source got leaked or not there were/are always going to be cheats for online games like HL2.

Look at ET the source hasnt been leaked, yet it has its fair share of cheats :frowning:

I must either be extremely lucky, or the cheats must be extremely shite then because I haven’t yet encountered any cheaters in ET.
