Hiring Mercs

(K1X455) #1

Wouldn’t be helpful for new guys to try out the merc before they commit to unlock permanently. Let’s say c15k for 7 days and you can get refund for
[]c8k if returned within 24 hours of hiring[]c7k after 24 hours[]c6k after 48 hours[]c5k after 72 hours[]c3k after 96 hours[]c1k after 120 hours
c500 after 144 hours
This excludes recently released mercs tomgive the early adaptors their exclusivity period.

Edit: If the player commits to unlock the merc before the end of trial, the player gets the remaining credits based on the number of hours left in the period.

I… actually don’t see any problem with this.

You should make the rental costs less pricey because it will take away the possibility of actually buying the merc unless the player is swimming in credits.

May I suggest that instead, the player is charged an initial fee of around c2000 and is continuously charged a small, increasing fee for every 4 hours in possession of the merc. This would encourage actually buying the merc after testing it more.

But…but, c15k is easy to earn in 9 hours of playing in 2 days… it’s a good bargain … considering you can get a premium merc like Sawbonez for c30k.

How about, if you eventually decide to unlock the merc, you get a discount on the remaining credit based on the number of hours left?

Sounds good. Edit that in.

Also - make it so that you can’t earn XP with a hired merc, which will again enforce the actual buying of the merc.

I think there should just be a training mode or just target practice areas or something where you get to choose different loadouts and different mercs.

(N8o) #7

This is all well and dandy, but it is not a true representation of how the merc performs.

(Jostabeere) #8

Why if you can spend real money and buy them?

(screamnghedghog) #9

This is a great idea. I totally agree that there should be some way to try out a merc without having to wait possibly months for them to be on free rotation.

(Jostabeere) #10

You need a week by playing casually to get a merc for 50K. Months for not getting a merc is exaggregating.

(gg2ez) #11

@laudatoryLunch because not all people like to spend real money, like you and I, in order to purchase a non-material item. It’s not that hard.

(Jostabeere) #12

The game is designed around buying things. “Renting” things will lead into less people buying.

Or people more people will buy. I imagine many people are unwilling to spend the real money, since they don’t know if their investment would be worth it. If they could rent the merc first, then it might make them actually spend the real money to get them.

Then it should be limited for one-time only. And a smaller period than 7 days. Like 5 gameplay hours.
Or just a better tutorial/small shooting range for every merc to test the ability.

Free rotation… Besides, a one time only, low cost, 5 hour merc trial is too short for a player to evaluate a merc’s game style; not to mention, the type of loadout you have to collect to suit you best.

@laudatoryLunch The game is designed around shooting things, not buying things. Renting things would make more people buy due to the security of knowing what they’re getting before making a purchase. If making a measly 25K is hard for you, do the missions and you’ll be there in less than three days, which logically, is better than having to wait a month for a new rotation. Ez.

Isn’t the thread about “testing a merc so the purchase wouldn’t be shit”? You can easily test a merc fully in 5 in-game hours. You don’t need up to 7 days to just “test” it imo.

Which is why you can get refunded for 8k if used under 24hrs. Besides, some people to have time to sit down and playtest a single merc for five hours straight and would rather get to really know the merc before purchase.

You misreading my “up to 7 days” and “5 in-game hours” on purpose? They will act like boosters, which only run out if you’re in-game, playing the game.

@laudatoryLunch Then next time, say it will act like a booster.

But either way, I still stand with my point that alot of people would rather see if they can get properly comfortable with that certain merc before making a purchase. Five-hours whether split into increments, or used as a whole will still never really be enough to fully evaluate a merc’s playstyle and abilities to full extent and comfort, especially not to newer players.

You know, the idea @K1X455 isn’t bad, in fact alot of people agree, and they’re agreeing with a 7 day period.
