Just for a friendly debate, who do you believe is the merc with the highest skill ceiling?
Highest skill ceiling
Definitely Rhino. Imagine how hard it must be to hit enemies with so many bullets coming out at once. (Sarcasm intended)
The mercs I play are the hardest to master and all the mercs I don’t play are easy o:)
Sparks for sure. The revivr is unlike any other weapon in the game and requires finesse to use effectively as an offensive and supporting tool. Not to mention the worlds tiniest health packs. Learning to skillshot those is tough enough.
I would say Red Eye. He’s weak as a stalk of grass, but if you can juggle the smoke and the vision goggles accurately with his rifles, you can be quite the crowd controller.
Sparks. more choices = most potential for failure or success.
I would say fletcher has a fairly high skill cap as well but he also has one of the lower skill floors.

I would pretty much agree with this 100%. Sparks is probably the most difficult to succeed with if you want to do anything beyond ranged reviving. And Fletcher is very newbie friendly due to the ability to throw constant stickies and getting players kills they might not have gotten on a merc that required more precise aim but at the same time he’s more difficult than the average merc to break through and play well with even by the most skilled players.
I’ve never found Sparx to be that tricky, but ive been playing her since I first started. Ive got a lot of time invested in her. I go positive KDA most matches with her and get plenty of revives, the numbers vary on how much time I have to spend on one or the other.
The biggest thing with sparx is learning to manage your small health pool. You take risks when you poke your head out to get those popshots. Some players will abuse you for it, some wont.
Really though, if you get her down well enough you don’t ever have to put away your revive gun. Its amusing.
IMO, the highest skill ceiling merc is Sparks, since you can basically master two jobs in one. A close second would be RedEye, because it’s the only merc where you can totally screw up your whole team if you really manage to play badly (a smoke at the worst moment and it can be a victory that flies away). This is then followed by Vassili, and then I think we can add Fletcher…
If we wait for Aimee, she probably will be as hard as Vassili to get the most of it.
Just my two cents.
Highest skill requirement is Red-Eye for sure, then I’d have to say Sparks and Vassili as sniping doesn’t come easy to most people. Finally I would add Kira, as many people don’t know how to use burst fire rifles nor the dreiss. And effectively activating and killing multiple people with the orbital strike is something not everyone has understood yet.
i’m sorry but you didn’t really answer the question… and by the way, i really doubt that… no body in this game just play the same mercs, over and over again, it’s boring play always the same mercs. i just miss 3 mercs, for me the most difficult to master the snipers, because i never liked to play sniper i always liked to be in the centre of the action, and i’m already bored playing all the mercs from aura to phoenix.

It was an obvious (to me anyway) sarcastic joke. Plus, I fully answered the question just a couple posts below after I sorted my thoughts on the topic (and noticed somebody else had similar thoughts).
Some of you guys need to lighten up a bit!
Obviously the highest skill ceiling is Rhino, leet tanky fat f%$^ strats
Also, this is Amerika guys
Ive seen arty being played really really well, but I’m not sure if that’s high skill for him specifically.
I would go towards arty and vassili, yeah sparks can be difficult but playing her in the competitive mode i did a lot of standing back spamming angles with the revivr and then just safely reviving people from a distance. (Imho, standing back just spamming “rails” ain’t that hard.) For me using a scope is harder for me i like seeing things further away its easier for me to land the shot.
Technically speaking, a sniper will always have the highest skill ceiling, because to technically master him, you would need 100% pinpoint aim. SPUF has trained me to argue about skill floors and skill ceilings.
Realistically though, I gotta say Arty and Sparks. Arty just needs an insane amount of game knowledge and aim to even use half as effectively as Skyhammer.
Sparks is just generally hard, beyond reviving like a little annoying necromancer.

Of course some people play the same mercs over and over again. Me myself have a few standard mercs I’m better with and will use if I play for XP or to win (Fragger, Sawbonez, Bushwacker and Arty/Skyhammer), so I usually have one or two of those in rotation. If I need gamemode XP with proxy for example, I will play Bushwacker and just bring proxy to fill a slot, won’t play her.
Also just look at other games, some people will only touch a sniper rifle in CoD. In BF4 out of all the weapons pretty much anyone decent used the ACE23, AEK or M416 all the time. In Quake we only had 9 weapons and we never got tired of using them all the time.
As for the topic, I can’t really say, don’t feel I have enough play time with all of them, don’t even own all of them. But I do find it hard to be effective with the snipers, a lot of it is probably cause of rust though.
