Highest skill ceiling

(XavienX) #21

I think all have their own skill gap, of course some are substantially easier in a way because they have similar qualities to other FPS games. But mercs like Sparks, Fletcher or even Phantom (in his current OK state) is hard to master. Vassili, although he’s a sniper like any other game, hitting headshots does take some skill especially in Dirty Bomb.

From the mercs I own to ones i have played in a free rotation, sparks is the hardest to master, I want to use her but I dont because i suck with her xD

ITT: People who never really played Rhino calling Rhino a noskill-merc.

How to play Rhino (the simplest way):

  1. Find area to camp in.
  2. Stand in a nearby Healing Station.
  3. Spin up minigun and wait for people to run into your line of sight
  4. Pull trigger.
  5. ???
  6. Profit.

Could you provide some footage where you lead your team to a victory using this strategy? Preferably as attacker please

How to play Rhino (the “hard” way):

  1. Jump around corner.
  2. Spin up minigun mid air.
  3. Crouch spam.
  4. Aim in general direction of enemies.
  5. ???
  6. Profit.

Better?

I’m sorry but anyone who says Rhino is tough is just not smart enough to use strategies. Rhino is so easy to play, he has huge DPS and huge health pool. Now some people will not take advantage of that, others will. Whenever I play him, my team usually wins. Of course he’s more a defensive than offensive merc. But one can make it work on the attacking side too. One just has to realize that Rhino isn’t a huge rock stuck to ground and move with him (long jumps, wall jumps etc.)

(immenseWalnut) #30

Probably Kira. The burst weapons are powerful in the hands of skilled aimers, and she is capable of good movement play too.

Her ability is easy to use however, but her movement combined with her burst weapons in the hands of really good players can be devastating.

Can’t comment on Sparks, never really used her, but I have seen a lot of good players use her and they can be a major pain, especially when you have players on your team that don’t finish their kills.

(DarkangelUK) #31

Sparks played right both as a medic and a killer can be devastating, those that use her mainly as a ‘sniper’ aren’t getting close to that skill ceiling.

Proxy can be mow through the enemy in the right hands as well, but that’s my main so I’m biased

proxy is great in a good player’s hands, just like many other mercs are. Doesn’t mean Proxy has a high skill requirement. Anyone can place a mine on the objective and get kills from careless players. And especially since the hochfir buff, it’s less of a hassle to aim and kill with that bullet spitting machine.

(OmaGretel) #33

I found Proxy quite hard to play. Considering you really want to fight the enemies and not just sneak past them to ninja plant some c4. Then again, I’m really bad with shotguns, so maybe that’s one of the reasons I didn’t like her.
Also Sawbonez is a solid merc, but I found making a difference with him is not so easy. You have to dominate the enemy aim-wise, because Sawbonez doesn’t get any nice gadgets that can help him mid-fight.
Sparks came quite naturally to me, I didn’t have too much trouble with her and she is currently my favourite merc. She definately has my personal highest rate of godlikes, because she can be so tough to kill if you play her right.

But saying you don’t need skill at all and you will automatically win if you press RMB is pure BS.
Too bad he is actually a rock when he’s shooting with the minigun.

(gg2ez) #35

But here’s the thing: We said he was a low-skill merc.

I don’t remember writing that, did I? Of course give any merc to play to a plant and nothing will happen. People need to be able to shoot and aim in the general direction of the enemy. But for a person which aim sucks and that usually get 2/15 KD, it’s much easier to get better KD with Rhino than with another merc.

I think Rhino takes more skill to play than Proxy. The skill is in tactical thinking and careful movement.

She’s an engineer. She has a shotgun or Hochfir. She plants mines. Learn where objectives are and basic aiming and you’re ready to go! For more skill, you learn some trickjumps, but it’s not necessary.

Pick a Rhino and start playing and you will be destroyed, or will manage just kill one person at best before death. Rhino requires thinking ahead because he’s so slow. He’s slower than he looks, because he can barely move while spinning minigun. You have to be close to cover at all times. Also you have the tradeoff of spinning the gun and be loud or suffer the spin-up but be quiet. And it’s not true that Rhino has “huge HP”. While technically true, his low speed and huge hitbox make him an easy target.
Long story short you can’t immediately pick up Rhino and be good at it. It requires a change of thinking, and new tactics. But a player who played Sawbonez, Phoenix, Nader or Bushwacker can select Proxy and be good at her.

Compare Proxy to Bushwacker or Fletcher. Fletcher has so many ways of using his bombs! Direct hits, mid-air detonation, traps. Proxy just runs in and drops a mine somewhere. Bushwacker’s turret takes time to activate, and the cooldown is long, you can’t just spam it. It needs a line of sight, it needs to be hidden from view as much as possible. Placement depends on where you plan to be, and where teammates are. Proxy just drops a mine at objective for most part.

There’s not much fancy stuff you can do with proxy mines. You can drop a mine in the middle of a group and hit it, there’s that.

Note that Proxy is a rare sight in competitive.

(streetwiseSailboat) #38

I haven’t played as Sparks yet so I have no comment about her, but I feel Vassili as a Sniper has the highest skill cap. The characters in Dirty Bomb have higher base speeds than other videogame characters.

I’m relatively new to this game, but I perform best as Kira. Burst rifles and high speed is totally my thing and I’m glad they’ve designed a merc just for that. I also learned that you don’t need to kill people with the laser. It serves more of as a means to scatter the enemy team so that yours can rush in.

Oh sure, because getting someone with a Mini-Gun that is a fire hydrant for bullets is so much harder than getting them with mines (note sarcasm).

Kira and Aura , rest are pretty easy
