Hidden Melee Weapon

I’m sure not the first person to spot the ‘saw’ on sawbonez . But shouldn’t that be one of his (main) melee weapon ?
It could have the same stats of a beckhill knife . Maybe a bit less damage with more Range , but it would be so cool to mash people with the saw instead ^^ . And since the model is already present i guess it shouldn’t be hard to copy the attributes from another melee weapon.
And moreover thats what his name refers to . What do you think ?

A bonesaw is actually a surprisingly bad melee weapon IRL. It has to be used in a sawing motion or else it doesn’t cut very deeply, which of course would mean a very long attack time. Also, bonesaws don’t exactly work too well on clothed flesh because its blade has so many tiny serrations that they get hooked on porous materials (like cloth).

I know realistic doesn’t = DB, but I just thought I’d share the fun fact.

You ever tried to stab or slash someone with a bonesaw? Lol.
@gg2ez is totally right about it.

@gg2ez @Jostabeere

Yes i know that it doesn’t do a great deal of damage . And you don’t exactly stab with a saw . An upward sawing action should do decent damage with less time . And moreover fun > reality .

Ofcourse . And it works like a charm .

@Arjun A saw might not work as a real melee weapon but I’ll tell you something that does: Scalpels!

Scalpels are great weapons. Durable, lightweight, extremely efficient at cutting multiple materials, and best of all, you can easily conceal the tiny blade like a hidden stinger.

@gg2ez
Wow . And that should be perfect for Sparks

I thought about that too. Sawbones have a “Saw” in his name, he even have it in his worldmodel, why he can’t use it?

it could be a miniature chainsaw “for cutting bones”

(Reddeadcap) #11

There actually is a tomahawk in the game files, which might have been an alternative to Proxy’s original cricket bat, which make sense as she does have one on her toolbelt.

Also Bonesaw does have lines where he says he’ll kill someone with his saws, but that said it’s likely an oversight but hinted that he means he’s going ot surgerize them with his saw, rather than a scalpel.

(Sorotia) #12

Unless they add chainsaws to the game…you aren’t going to kill anyone with a saw

(Rjsto) #13

Not before they shoot you anyway

(XavienX) #14

If you guys notice, Sparks has a “hidden” weapon too. She carries Fragger’s frag grenades on her belt.

(Reddeadcap) #15

A lot of mercs carry grenades on their models because they actually had at least one grenade in closed alpha, Dazzler was the only who had it as a rechargable ability, along with his own flashbangs which were different than Thunder’s one can still bring them up using console commands, as grenade_01 and grenade_02.

Sawbonez is slang for doctor

(Ballto) #17

“Sawbones” is a nickname given to combat surgeons, its origins can be traced back to pre-WWI or even to the dark ages, when medical practice wasnt good enough to combat infections or easily heal major wounds.

Before the invention of antibiotics and new methods to fix heavy bleeding came around, the absolute best way to save a soldier with an infected limb/heavy bleeding was to apply a tourniquet and saw off the poor bastards limb to save his life.

“OH SHIT, TOM IS BLEEDING TOO MUCH, MEDIC COME SAW BONES”

Sawbones.

Sometimes they werent even doctors, they just hired a butcher who’d understand how to properly cut a limb from experience.
