Ok i have radiant 1.4. i wanted to make rotatig doors but they dont work correctly. i have read tutorials and manuals but it doesnt work. the door rotates from the center of the map. what should i do? have i made something wrong with the origin thingy or sth?
And how do you make water. tutorials read, but it still doesnt work.
HI, im a newbie. Little help plz.
murka10, we help newbies every day. We will be glad to help you too.
About the doors: it sound like you have forgotten that all script_movers and doors must have an origin brush.
About the water: It is just a brush, and then you apply the shader/texture “shiwa_water” or similar. Compile and jump into the water.
Good luck.

Ok, one thing at a time.
First of all, your func_door_rotating. The game needs to know around which point it should rotate.
You just start with a brush. Select the brush and your door, then right-click in a 2D window. Choose “Move into entity”. If you’re sure that your new brush turned blue in the 2D window, (to show it’s part of an entity) make sure it’s the only thing selected. Now apply the common/origin texture to it. (It has an orange look)
If you followed carefully, it should work.
As for the water… Tried to do a search?
Also, check out the radiant manual:
http://www.qeradiant.com/manual/Q3Rad_Manual/index.htm
Now, go make some great maps!
ok i followed it 3 times. still doesnt work. i made an epmty room. made a wall in the center. made a door.gave it a door texture door_c01b. gave it the func_door_rotating. made a long brush in the right side of the door overlapping it. selected them both and selected “move into entity” (turned blue). then gave the long brush the origin texture. saved the map. tested it and it still turned aruound the center of the map.
is it really sth im doing wrong?
about the water: i make a big brush. give it the bloodywater texture from area 51 TJ map.(im a tj fan) but when i jump on it it is hard as a rock.
when i used ver 1.3.7 i had a problem that when i made lights or spawnpoints they disapeared right after i deselected them. is this all another bug or sth.
http://www.pythononline.co.uk/et/tutorial.htm - very good tutorials
http://www.spyjuice.com/ld.htm - file maps in pk3- tutorials, also there is a water, doors and so on,
download all pk3 rename pk3 on zip and extract to wolf enemy territory/etmain
You are on your way!
Door: You must select the origin brush first, then the door brush, then right-click and select “move into entity”. Did you select the door first and then the origin brush, perhaps? That will not work.
Water: The brush will be solid unless you apply a texture that has a shader (a small text script) written for it that says “hey, this is not a solid brush anymore”. Otherwise it will not work. So, in short, the texture that you apply must have its unique shader and in that shader you must write a script command that tells the compiler “this is a water now, not some solid block”.
I agree with Kic, the spyjuice pk3s are very, very good. Check them out.

i’ve had move into entity act odd at times. i always build the door and place the origin before i turn it into an entity.
be sure you are using the proper shader and not just the texture. if it’s a shader it will have a white outline in the shader/texture window. if it’s only a texture it will have no outline(or possibly only a green outline if it’s currently in use in the map). a texture without a shader gets the default shader properties applied to it which i think makes it behave like concrete or stone. if it has a white outline, hold shift+left click on the shader in the shader window to open the shader file. scroll to find it in there and make sure it has the proper water parameters(ie, surfaceparm water + nonsolid)
yes i chose the origin first
wow that guy has some seriously cool tuts. i hope that someday i can make such maps. btw im doing all this to get a better admin lvl in my clan
im the 5th important member in my clan of 25. ok no more offtopic.
is this skill coming like Tj that one moment i see that out of a bang i can jump.
ok about the door, why bother with the move into entity? i do it like this:
create the door brush
create the origin brush
select both (doens’t matter which one first)
rightclick INSIDE of one of the two and select func_door_rotating
(this also works when your door brush is already a func_door_rotating btw)
The water:
Im assuming you need the water to only have a water look on the top? not like an unrealistic column of water often found in TJ maps…?
then make your brush that will be your water, give it the “common/nodraw_water” texture and give the TOP face a water texture such as siwa_water or similar. To only texture one face hold Shift + Ctrl and leftclick in the 3D window on the face you want to texture.
im assuming there is sth wrong with my gtkradient. because nothing works. water wont work. door wont work. what version should i use?
or can anybody get me a video tut because words cant describe the detail of a picture
with ebs tuts posted above you can take the .map file out of the pk3 and see how he has done it
i do that but do i have to copy the doors to make them work or what. i think my program is broken because i wanted to ask about ladders( i make a simple post and put ladder texture on it, thats correct right?) but all my problems have the same root. the texture/common. origin and water wont work so i assume all texture/common things dont work. so wtf?
what version of the program should i use? its the program not me(im hoping that). or is there sth wrong with the installion.
This does sound a bit odd - I use 1.0.4 and it works ok, in fact I preffer it to 5.0
Try saving your custom stuff and reinstalling radient if no one else has any brighter ideas!?
good luck and keep at it - mapping can be a tad trying at times because there is alot of stuff to get to grips with
i guess you mean 1.4.0 mrfin?
also, i dont recommend 1.5 yet, i had many problems with it… it’s still in beta
ok im reinstalling it.
but is the texture/common coming with ET or gtkradient. maybe i have to reinstall ET.
i wish i could start making maps soon.
Later that day: omfg the door works. wee i can make maps. im so happy now

good to hear that it worked in the end
here’s a tutorial im writing (not finished yet) to tell you everything you need to know about making a complete map:
http://www.fragland.org/nick/mapping_tut.pdf
but you might want to check out other beginner tutorials to show you more things aswell (have a look in the sticky threads)
thx to everyone who tried to help me.
i have a project in my mind. about where i live. im thinking of a map about my school. it is to steal documents from the principals office.(i dont hate my school if u asked.) it just because my friends like how you can do objectives in it. it has good sniping places etc.(they are ET fans also). i hope i can make a map like that one day.
1 question. if i make 2 doors open at the same time by using the team name. how can i make one to open to the same direction as the other. they open differently.
ok i figured it out myself. no need of help at doors anymore.(one in reverse the other is normal.)
