Hi from Nexon America!

(MoneyPenny) #1

Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you for your contributions to “Extraction”. The game is playing great, and we know much of the credit goes to the participation of the founding members.

We are extremely excited about our partnership with Splash Damage. Nexon America was founded in 2005, and Extraction will be the first western title published by our company. We have been looking for the right game and the right partner for quite some time. With Splash Damage and Extraction, we’re confident that we have found the best combination of both.

With change there is always a mix of excitement and concern. I’ve already seen some great debates today on this forum. Please allow me to say a few words on behalf of all of us at Nexon America.

Why might you be excited?

Our goal is the make Extraction bigger than it could be with Splash Damage alone. This means we will be lending our experience and resources towards creating the best service possible. In theory, this will result in more focus in development by Splash Damage and more players in Extraction.

What about your concerns?

We recognize that a major point of concern will be around Pay-to-Win. We know a competitive team-based shooter will surely fail going down this this road. Nexon America and Splash Damage share a big community vision for Extraction and the foundation of that is a shared philosophy that Extraction must not be Pay-to-Win. Also, please allow me to further reassure you by stating that Nexon America is not the developer. Extraction’s design decisions on both gameplay and monetization will ultimately be made by talented and devoted team over at Splash Damage.

Another concern I have seen on your forums is around the service regions. We recognize and respect that the Extraction community wants to play together. That is why Nexon America will be servicing North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand through one unified service. The current plan is to allow players to play across these regions if they choose.

Your involvement doesn’t end here

We realize that players are the cornerstone in developing any successful game, and your feedback will remain paramount in shaping Extraction as we work with Splash Damage to take it through beta testing all the way to launch.

Both of our teams are working extremely hard to provide you with a seamless transition to the game you deserve. Thank you very much in advance for all of your support and feedback on Extraction.

Enjoy the game and keep letting us know what we can do to make Extraction a great experience for you and future players. I hope to see you in Extraction! :stroggbanana:

Cheers,
Min / MoneyPenny…
I didn’t know my “friends” at SD would put my IGN on blast, but now you know how terrible I am

I’d also like to say thanks for jumping in here and speaking to us directly about some of our concerns. I actually feel a lot better now.

Hi Min,

I really appreciate the way you introduce and clarify yourself (and your team) the way you do now.
The one thing I (and I think many others) needed was some clarification on the points you just summed up. Great.
I hope I can own you soon on the public servers

Cheers,
NATS

Thank you for the introduction and the clarifications.

I’m really not a fan of Nexon in the first place so it will be up to you to prove me wrong and make me change my mind by how you handle DB.
The cross-region play availability is a good start so thank you for the confirmation.

Thanks Rex!

One thing for everyone to keep in mind is that Nexon America is a publisher and not a game developer. We provide advice and ideas to our development partners. We take care of all the non-game development “stuff”. However, we don’t ultimately make the game. I have spent a lot with the SD guys recently and you guys are in great hands. We both really care about the player and share of vision of making a game that the community will love to play for a long time.

There are definitely concerns about Nexon America on the web. Some of them we do own up to and we try our best to address them. For some areas of improvement, it’s a long term game.

As I wrote in my post above, we have been looking for a Western development partner for some time. We basically started the F2P space in the Western Hemisphere with MapleStory which is still very successful. However, I always felt that we needed great domestic developers to develop for a domestic audience. With games over from Asia, the developers have to serve the needs of multiple territories and there are some advantages and challenges with that. With Extraction, Nexon America is excited because we can partner with a developer that is focused on making a game Western gamers are looking for.

We won’t do everything perfectly, but we commit to doing the best we can with the desire to constantly improve.

Cheers!
MoneyPenny

Well, the way I see it, every non-fan is an opportunity

We’ll do our best to make your game awesome.

I really appreciate this thread  tbh its really an interesting combo SD and Nexon

Sounds great so far, im rly curious how things turn out in future

From past experience with your previous titles that may or may not have been either Pay2Win or Pay2NotGrind, for someone with non-existant experience with your brand, what exactly are your opinions on what you have done with your previous titles? and what do you feel you have learned from those that you wouldn’t do in DB/Extraction?

(1-800-NOTHING) #10

i thought the “regional concern” was with regards to Russia and the CIS states?

(not saying that’s nexons problem, mind you…)

(Seanza) #11

Hi Min,

Thanks for taking the time to post on the forums, I hope this is something we get to see on a regular basis.

Are there any plans to work with other “publishers” to ensure an entirely global playerbase? I think it’s going to be extremely detrimental to Extraction’s future to if certain countries and regions are locked out. Normally this would be resolved by using alternative game clients to region-hop, but apparently Extraction won’t (or currently doesn’t) support that.

What are you going to do differently with Extraction that you didn’t do with Combat Arms? That game just didn’t make the cut in terms of gameplay, longevity and support, so I really hope to see some great improvements.

I’m excited to have further conversations and discussions with you, don’t be a stranger (regardless of how futile we can get  )

Also, these forums have a “Reply with quote” option :infiltrator:

I already told you, stop reading my mind

What MrFunky said.
Welcome on board, thx for the clarification!

Also it’s good that you actually play the game.

Welcome to this forum Money Penny,

First, as some have already said here, I appreciate to have someone from Nexon here on the forums. Maybe having a Nexon dedicated part of the forum and a community manager of yours maintaining it would be nice.

Then, about our concerns, I’d like first to fully understand the extent of your role in “Extraction”. So far it’s still a bit vague, you have stated only your goals. Thanks in advance for any clarifications you may provide.

OK

Mr MoneyPenny

I would like to ask how the server infrastructure will be managed will we for instance be able so set up our own servers or will we have to rent servers for a start? What sort of controls would we have on said servers, what is your anti-cheat measures (if any to going by your forums). Do I have to put in payment details into the hands of yet another company? Just how competent is your customer service?

<SNIP>[/QUOTE]

Stop owning me in game! God, I dislike you already!

(shaftz0r) #16

My major concern is anti-cheat measures. Combat arms was a massive joke of a game in these terms and tbh, it doesn’t make me feel too good having a basically noname company handle such a thing. cheating is a large problem and something that can completely decimate a game before it even has a chance to get going.

(BMXer) #17

I would also like to hear exactly how anti cheat will be handled.

For the most part, every single FPS game has a problem with cheats. For the most part, every developer just buries their head in the sand about it. This seems like a great opportunity to truly set yourselves apart.

(potty200) #18

Welcome! Hope you are having as much fun as I have been

While you express a few views regaurding pay to win ect. My main concern, seeing as you have already said you support free to win, is I don’t want to have to pay to do everything like, add a friend or use private servers. I hope all the buying systems are more like skins than game play. I also hope that we avoid making a split between free users and paying users.

Thanks for the heads up on things though! I am pretty jelly you have a coloured name too :frowning:
