Here now gone tomorrow

(FATSAC) #1

A release date for early one week has been set for the release of the final version of RTCW: Enemy Territory. We would like to thank the masses of people who flocked to our sites waiting for the release. We do appreciate your devotion to our prog. We would also like to appoligize for any inconvenience that may have been caused by a missunderstanding between which release week we were actually talking about. Look to gib us on your favorite server soon. :moo:

Is this a bad joke ?

I’m still stickin with “a” thursday…

(FMa_StrydeR) #5

April Fools was a month ago… nice try… if a release date was set, i’m pretty sure a lead designer, programmer, or level designer would announce it, not just some ordinary forum dwellar :drink:

(Maniac) #6

lol … look at his account 3 posts.
I gues he just registered to try and fool us.

Bad joke you know.

I just don’t like smoke blown up my a$$. Don’t really see the point in releasing info on a release date then not releasing it. When the Test map was released it was said that the final would follow shortly. From what I can tell most bugs are small and I do not see a need to have to wait months. I mean not only did they have Beta testers for this they had a test map with plenty of time to fix what the Beta testers didn’t find. I understand it is free and I should not complain and just be happy with my free prog.

We all flock to the site waiting for a release(wasting our time in my opinion) just to find out it has not been released yet. Seems peeps could care less about the masses and only care about them little selves.

Title change… haha… good one. duh!

I am one of the beta testers and everyone has been hard at work testing, fixing, testing, balancing, fixing … you’re concept of a few simple to fix bugs is just plain wrong. What have they been doing since Test came out?

Fine tuning game play - you do want something that plays just as well on offense as on defense, map after map don’t you?

Balancing maps - you do want maps that aren’t lopsided or totally favor one side do you?

Fixing bugs - maybe you’re happy to live with the bugs, but I’m sure everyone else likes their servers to run stabily and reliably

Changing gameplay mechanics to address the feedback, you, the community has given Splash Damage, id, and Activision. - There has been a huge contribution of input, some adopted, some not, but a ton of effort has been invested to make this game very much a reflection of what the community said it wanted.

Now go sit in the corner FATSAC. You’ll not be allowed back until you say sorry.

Incidentally, from what I’ve read SD nor anyone else ever made an official announcement that the full title was to be released last/this week or whenever. There was never an official announcement at this forum or the entire SD website - so really you are only to blame for believing unoffical sources. Shame on you!

Well from what I read at Planetwolfensteins daily news a person named Hellchick who iirc works for Activition said it was hoped to be out early next week (meaning last week). People just wanted to hear from someone if not even Hellchick on what happened. I don’t think anyone was really trying to bust anyones balls (sorry Hellchick).

And how ironic : You wasted another 5 minutes of your life…
If you dont want that to happen again : Be sure to put www.splashdamage.com in your restricted-area for your firewall : This will keep you from unnoticingly (is this even spelled right ? :)) visiting this site again… and wasting your time.

BTW, dont reply on this … as that would waste _ another_ few minutes in your life.

Not that I am pointing at anyone in particular but this prog would of already been released if it wasn’t for lazy beta testers in the first place. I read in a post a beta tester could only spend a couple of hours that week playing the beta. Now don’t you see the problem. Beta testers that only play a couple of hours a week should for one not be beta testers and two should realize people that have a true passion for gaming may be better off being a beta tester instead of them. Peeps wanna be beta testers just to say thay are not to participate in the actual testing.

BoltyBoy, I wouldn’t sit in the corner but if I wanted to I couldn’t because it was supposed to be built last week and the contractor still has not completed it. I hear it will be nice though when it is finished. Shame on me? Why would would one man say that to another. Unless one is Oh…IC…

I’m not hear to bring negativity. Just wanted to ruffle a few feathers with a little humor at that. I wouldn’t even be here if I didn’t think the prog was worth it. So with that said please realize that most peeps here respect you(SD) and think your great people without even knowing you personally. When you have that kind of public appearance one would think you would not want to tarnish that with a misunderstanding and lack of public progress announcements. One misunderstanding here and there is understandable but if the lack of public progress announcements is a direct reflection of how your program support is issued than I doubt most peeps will be pleased anyhow.

OK, I posted this elsewhere, but maybe it can help you too:

If they didn’t care, they would have released it last week, bugs or not.

In my experience of the SW industry (from which I am thankfully retired),

  1. developers don’t say much about a product or release date, because they know they will get lots of shit if it doesn’t turn out that way (see also #2). Marketing/sales also gets pissed if developers make public statements, because public statements are their bailiwick (see also #3).

  2. Even if the developers DO make a prediction, the odds of it being correct are somewhat less than the odds of your fortune cookie correctly predicting your future.

  3. If anyone DOES make a statement, it will be Marketing/sales (the producer, in the case of game), but in general, their forcasts have even less basis in fact than the developers. A monkey on a hundred hits of LSD probably has more grasp on reality than your average marketoid.

  4. No matter what anyone does, people will get on a forum/listserv/newsgroup and bitch bitch bitch.

:moo:

Oh, and read batmans post. Key word “hope”.

Dunno wot all da fuss is about - who cares when it is released - just as long as it’s awesome when it arrives. Ya just a bunch of impatient little bastiges :bash:

I wish other game writers had forums to listen to the “great unwashed” like me  bitchin bitchin bitchin
