Help!

(ET-Ownz!) #1

Hi I’m new here and have a big problem with ET.

I recently installed ET, well 2 days ago and here is my problem :

When i start ET i click play online but there are completely NO servers available to go in, i simply cannot see them.

This happened 2 days ago when i tried but then for some reason i tried it and it worked. Today I tried again and there aren’t any servers available AGAIN.

I cannot remember what I did differently and have tried alot of things but simply cannot get it to work.

I am using a wireless router connection because i am on my laptop, I tried it with a cable but that didnt help.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am only 13 so please don’t bombard me with crazy computer words and make it as simple as possible.

if you have installed 2.60 update and 2.60b patch properly and you still can’t see servers, make sure source is set to internet in game browser, and if that doesn’t work, you may have to use a third party browser such as All Seeing Eye
The in game browser doesn’t always work correctly for some.

ET Pack v1.3 has it all that is needed, all patches, etpro, some custom maps.

http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=tutorial&mode=item&id=21

Finally someone did it that was needed to help new players into ET

How will that help his problem of no servers in the list, he didn’t say the game didn’t work, just no servers show

(M8DNanite) #5

That pack has all patches already installed.
Its too difficult for most people to try to find all the patches manually and install.

Its too difficult for most people to try to find all the patches manually and install.

 now THAT’S funny

Unfortunately, it’s a sad truth.

I still am actively campaigning for a mandatory 2.60b migration and full installer. Oh well.

(M8DNanite) #8

Yeah.
Trying to think about bigger picture not just your personal computer skills.

To get more people to try this game there need to be one installer with migrated patches, ready to go and this is the one.

my view of the big picture is: if you can’t install a program from an exe or read instructions, you shouldn’t play with computers, consoles are made for those people

Sounds to me like ET is being blocked by a firewall or something. When ET can’t find a connection to the internet it will start up slow (trying to connect to master server) and no servers will show up for you.

An even sadder truth. Nail, you need to stop before I have to go cry myself to sleep. :frowning:

Here are a few things to try:

First when you start the game hit the tilde key (the ` key, it’s next to the 1) and check what it says in the bottom left. It should say ET 2.60 if you’re updated, although you might want to run the patch for 2.60b anyway just in case.

Second, were you ever able to see servers? When you first installed did you have servers and then they stopped showing up at some point, or have you never been able to see them?

Third, make sure that next to SOURCE it says INTERNET and not Local or Favorite, you’ll get no servers if it says that. Make sure everything is unchecked as well to make sure you’re not excluding anything.

Fourth, be sure to look at the screen while checking for servers. Many people make the mistake of looking at the wall or a particularly beautiful painting instead of looking at their computer monitor. It’s a very common error, so don’t be embarrassed.

Fifth, assuming you have access to it (and that you have one in the first place), turn off your firewall. If you have a router, try bypassing that and see if you still don’t see any servers.

Sixth, are you looking at your monitor? Don’t forget to do that! I’m not kidding, it’s really important.

Seventh, CHALLAGE!

Eighth, click Start, choose Run, type CMD and then hit ok. Then type “ping etmaster.idsoftware.com” and hit enter. You should get 4 succesful replies. If you don’t, something is blocking you from connecting to the master server, most likely a firewall or router.

Ninth, make sure you look at the ENTIRE monitor. Not just a part of it. Many people mistakenly think that all the information shows up in the upper right corner of the screen. This is not true. For maximum results look at at least 95% of the monitor at any given time.

Tenth, call a random technical support line and just repeat “It’s broken” over and over again.

CHALLAGE.

slightly offtopic but 2.60b patch
didnt it used to have a readme that told you what to do with it ?(not just what it was)
eg:extract to wolfinstien folder then rename current et.exe to etold.exe and drop the et.exe found inside the 2.60b patch into the wolfenstien folder

as for finding servers use xfire then you can track your friends aswell

firewalls do not need disabling just alt enter or alt tab to see if your firewall is asking for permission to let et talk to the world  (each time you patch it will ask for permission because it has changed)

also for new installs click the pbweb.exe in the pb folder as this will update punkbuster
