Help please

(ANZAC) #1

G’day,

I am hoping that someone here may be able to help me with the following, please:

When I used to play RTCW, my lagometer would show a smooth green line, much like the lawn on a bowling green \0/

I switched to ET after I struggled to find a full server for fragging… :frowning:

Sadly though, my lagometer now shows a green line that looks like, well it does not look like the lawn on a bowling green anymore?

Can any of you learned folk please tell me what i need to do to get my bowling green back? :?

Thanks in anticipation for the help.

Searching for “lagometer” showed some topics, and after only two clicks I reached this page: How to read the lagometer over at the ETPro forums.

I’d say it’s a pretty normal lagometer result.

Cheers mate,

I have read all of them before, but just re-read them to make sure that i was not missing something…

If not for previous experience I would think that you were right and that it’s normal.

However, previously I used to get a smooth green line (snapshots) but now it seems that every other snapshot is received at twice the ping of the last one, and thus creating the castle wall effect on the bottom line (snapshot)… if i am interpreting the lagometer correctly

Is it possible that it’s something in my box causing this? Maybe my router?

I believe that the snapshot line represents server to client snapshots received and the height of that line represents the ping… so how can the “spike” be so consistent? (And i guess this suggest that it can’t be my box?)

the wolfwiki entry is slightly updated from that forum post

The jaggies in your screenshot look like a com_maxfps that doesn’t quite match your cl_maxpackets. This shouldn’t be a problem, but if you want to smooth it out, set both to the same number, or set it such that cl_maxpackets evenly divides com_maxfps and 1000.

Thankyou sir!

Will have a play with the settings latter.

What do you think of this page, is it worth the effort, especially the MTU?

I wouldn’t bother making a bind for every netsetting or messing with your MTU. In general, ET (and other Q3 based games) work pretty well as long as you aren’t saturating your connection.

Lowering your MTU will only hurt Q3 based games, as they already usually send the smallest packet they can get away with.
