[Help] Need some guidence

(Emotive) #1

I haven’t played W:ET in years and aside from all the server re-directing I need some help.

Problem 1
Whenever I join a sever, I am made to download all files (most of the time it’s a clan) and then my home screen is full of their junk, how do I stop this?

Problem 2
Every time I join an new server, I have to reset my resolution, my controls, etc how can I make it so I don’t have to keep doing this?

Thanks!

Hi Emotive,

you cannot really stop your first problem. Many server admins like to f**kup the menus in the hope players will find their servers again or they may call it a shortcut to their own server. Pretty idiot and childish imo.
Don’t use the ingame browser by the way. Again, there are a few idiot admins who run fake-full servers just to redirect you to a often empty server. Use http://splatterladder.com/?mod=serverlist to find servers (filters available).

Problem2 may be caused by playing on different mods. Every mod has its own profile if i remember right but i i’m not sure about this one.

Oh and if your menus are screwed, check your /etmain folder and sort the list by creation date. Most of those so called “admins” often use ~~~~~~blabla.pk3 as a filename. Delete those and every other suspicious looking file.

Goodluck i guess;)

You can do this too:

open up your wolfenstein folder, make a folder called “clean” in the same directory where etmain is. Then copy from etmain pak0.pk3 and mp_bin.pk3 and the *dll or for linux *so.

Now create a new shortcut for ET, modify its command line paramaters and add " +set fs_game clean". When you are at that you can also add " +set com_hunkmegs 256"

Junk will still be downloaded to your etmain, you might even need to clean that from time to time. But everytime you start ET with that custom shortcut, it will load the stuff from etmain, and then the files you got in the “clean” folder, this way making it probably a always clean start. Unless you join a server which has a mod with folder “clean”.

That’s quite a smart solution ailmanki, good job pointing that out! Those server shortcuts are sooooo boring.
And I think the same as nonomapper for your settings problem Emotive, might just be a new mod you’ve just downloaded so the config has been set to default for it.

I’d suggest “+set com_hunkmegs 128 +set com_soundmegs 160” instead.

I guess your right, always forget that soundmegs are not substracted from hunks as it seems.

I’ve always had issues with this. The solution for me has always been to wipe all mod folders, and make sure I have everything I need set up in the “vanilla” game (etmain) ((including binds, megs, r_custom, r_mode, misc options)) then everything gets set across to mods correctly. It may be worth a shot for you also.

Start ET, do your settings, then load a mod through Mods menu. A single one; It should keep the settings. Close the game and do it for each mod… You’ll have ETmain System settings. Sometimes loading from a mod to another made me have a reset (Maybe a new cvar matter from a mod to another), that’s why I recommend to restart each time

You may also try to put a autoexec.cfg in each mod folder, but it shouldn’t be needed.
