Help me please! anybody!
This shouldn’t have anything to do with Enemy Territory, but let’s find out.
Does this happen with other networked games aswell ?
Are you using a static or dynamic network IP ?
What operating system are you running ?
What router do you have ?
What security software do you have ?
Have you added ET as a safe application to your firewall ?
If you’re running windows, the one quick thing you could try is this;
- Go to Start, run(or use Windowskey + r), type in ‘cmd.exe’. A command window will now open.
- type in ‘ipconfig /release’, followed with an enter
- type in ‘ipconfig /renew’, followed with an enter
- type exit, or click on the x to close the window.
You should now have received a new ip address from your router.
If ET still doesn’t work, then answer all of the questions.
So as to your thoughts on renewing ip address, i have no problems getting my internet access back after it gets disconnected. the problem is that anytime i try and look for et servers when running et client, it disables my internet access. now to ansewr the other questions, i dont currently have any other networked games
i am not sure what type of network ip im using. its set to auto-config.
i just upgraded my os to windows 7. not used to it and that may be the problem.
my router is linksys wireless router.
my security program is malwarebytes and windows firewall.
Yes i have added et to my safe list to my firewall.
I really appreciate your help here. windows 7 makes me feel like a noob. especially when im dealing with networking. i installed game scanner and that too shuts down my internet access when i search for servers. im lost, so i hope this info gives you a better idea of what im doing wrong. eagerly awaiting your reply. thanks again man!
Is this the same machine you’re posting with ?
Have you tried updating your wireless adapter driver ? (with windows update)
If windows update doesn’t fix it, try downloading the drivers from the manufacture’s website.
well i downloaded new drivers for my wireless adapter. it still does same thing. but i tried it on laptop that is also running windows 7 and is also on same wireless network. and it does same exact thing. it shuts my internet access down. but all i have to do to get it back up is unplug router and plug it back in. do you think that it would do the same thing if i plugged in wired??? man im about to give up. and yes same machine that im posting with.
Did you get this straightened out yet? Wonder if you can bypass everything and connect a cable directly from your computer straight to where your internet comes in, coax or phone jack?
ya thats what i had to do…although i am having to play on my other comp. cause it is on other side of the house and my dog chewed my last 100ft. ethernet cable. grr. anyways i have tried all different settings with wireless router and i can get internet to work but not et. so i have basically given up. got any suggestions let me know.
how would i go about that? windows update? or like manufacturers website?
Go to your manufacturers website, find the right model and click on downloads, there you should be able to find firmware updates.
Which router do you have ?
Hi!
- If only 1 computer at home in your local network should not appear IP conflict ! (if no other computer at home and not another LAN peripheral as for example an Ethernet printer you should not have ip conflict!)
==> Possible Problem coming from a driver update that is not the good ?
==> Possible malware or virus ? (Because if only one hardware on the Ethernet you should not have IP problem !
Try to scan your computer online some virus disable installed antivirus :

I am scare by windows update : sometimes it could arrive that you update drivers for hardware & after some parts of your hardware do not work correctly : == > prerfer manual update only if necessary.

If problem continue : backup your important files & after reinstall your computer : cleaning computer regularly is always good

If it continue to know if it is really a software problem it is always good to reinstall computer in the goal to test if all ok [like to detect amazing hardware problem because it exist always possible Damages because of the lightning from a Thunderstorm (at this season not surprising!)]. If you do not have a restoration kit, and you do not know how to do ask to a computer specialist.

Definately not virus. use housecall and malwarebytes. just recently formatted and upgraded to windows 7. thanks for the idea though. so i took dutchmeats advice and did find an update for firmware…gonna give it a try. and to clarify, my setup is as follows; my pc in my room in other side of house, connected to wireless network; cable modem, wireless d-link router, and laptop in my office; laptop connected wireless as well…both systems on wireless network have no problems accessing internet or my homegroup… until i fire up et client that is. then wireless network connection shuts off, troubleshooter finds same problem everytime , says network adapter or ethernet cable has break or is not connected to router. anyways e.t. works when i plug direct into cable modem.
I must agree with Scennative, when he said: “PS: on the next thread, use a better title”, but I’m sure you will agree, there is no lack of intelligent responses, from players trying to help.
I have a network / ET problem I just posted for help, and saw the quick and many responses to your poor ‘title’, so I decided to read it anyway. I’m glad I did, maybe they can help me as well.
I hope that thier input has or will fixed your problem.
well i updated firmware and thought it was gonna work. tried re-installing et. it was a no go. thank you all for ur input and advice but im licked. guess only one thing to do. go to store and get me a 100 feet of cable and make me ethernet cable and run the dang thing under my house and up through floor so my dogs cant get it. bah. what a pain. and as for my title, i posted on like 5 different forums before here and not a one did i get any response let alone help. so i tried a frustrated plea of help. it seemed to work well enough with you kool kats t.y. but for my next thread i will try something more eloquent. perhaps even a little more shakespere-ish to appease my fellow gut-gouging, head-popping, chest-caving, frag-freaking heros of the et community. p.s. dutchmeat, you the man! thanks. by the way thats me in the mid. .
Strange that it didn’t work (the firmware upgrade)
I don’t understand how your network is setup though, first you said you were connected to a Linksys router. Later you said something like you’re connected to a d-link router which is connected to your modem. OR that you have 2 routers 1 for each pc? confused If this is the case then you probably have 2 dhcp servers on 1 network…
- Reads all the posts again - Seems you have 1 router the d-link one, in that case all I can advise that hasn’t been said is to just login to your router an take a look at the settings, maybe there’s some kind of over protective firewall running.
Anyway if you’ve already given up then at least I can tell you that powerLAN exists as well. This system uses your electricity lines, so then you don’t need cables running all over your house, just from the nearest power outlet to your pc.
for example:
I use Devolo and it works well, there are other manufacturers though. If it’s an ip conflict though then even with a wire it’s going to happen. So before you buy anything bring your pc to your router use a short wire that you probably got when you bought the router and try it like that.
ya sorry, i was mistaken about the brad of router. used to have linksys but it went out. so i bought dlink. anyways, i can connect to et plugging in wired. but it has to be plugged directly to the modem. its got to be router though. went to friends house and plugged in to his router and worked fine. i just dont know router well enough i guess. my bro was the network genius but he is on the next great journey so i cant ask him. anyways i just thought it would be nice to play on my pc instead omy laptop. bt at least i can play at all.
