just prior to entering the server, I get a visual c++ runtime error.
I updated my nividia card drivers, reloaded ET, and it seemed to work fine for awhile, then it started all over again. Could it mean upgradeing the bios on my mother board?
I use windows xp professional
354 mg. ram
900 cpu
40 gig harddrive, which isn’t full
HELP !! getting error on ET
Checklist:
Make sure you aren’t running any other unessecary programs in the background (hit ctrl-alt-del and goto processes). Look for useless junk like qttask, the usual nvidia gumf, cd “managers”, peer-2-peer systems, and anything else that looks suspicious.
Check your system tray for crap. You really only should have 2 or 3 icons in there (anti-virus, firewall, display settings, volujme control, time are all fine. Other stuff like MSN, yahoo messenger, real player control are all superfluous crap that you don’t want).
Check for conflicting hardware. Right-click on your my computer icon, select hardware and click the device manager button. In the device manager, check for any hardware that has a yellow ! icon near it. This means it’s having difficulties and could well be the problem.
Run a full scandisk on your harddrive. It might be corrupt sectors causing bad reads that’s causing it.
Update your mobo drivers, but I find it highly unlikely you’ll need to update your motherboard bios.
Is ET the only game that suffers? If so, then the problem is probably not so much your system as much a config setting in ET that is conflicting with something.
Couple of basic questions:
Have you run a virus scan lately?
Have you run defrag lately?
Have you tried running scandisk?
yes, I have done a viri scan…alls well…just installed xp, so seen no need for defrag or scandisk
Formatting a HD will not fix any errors that are physcial. Run a scandisk to be sure.
have you tried updating your sound card drivers? Also, the motherboard driver?
