HELP!!! ET won't work!!! (under linux)

(Jahuu) #1

I’ve got Debian 2.4.xx and a RADEON 9100 series graphics adaptor. And when I start the game it prints:

…loading libGL.so.1: Initializing OpenGL display
…setting mode 4: 800 600
Using XFree86-VidModeExtension Version 2.1
XF86DGA Mouse (Version 2.0) initialized
XFree86-VidModeExtension Activated at 1152x864
Using 8/8/8 Color bits, 24 depth, 0 stencil display.
gd error (glide): Can’t find or access Banshee/V3 board
gd error (glide): grSstSelect: non-existent SSTReceived signal 11, exiting…

What is wrong???
Do I have to install it as “super user” or is it graphics adaptor or the drivers or something???

HELP!!!

Jahuu,

I am not having any problems. It appears that is a video card issue on your end. Good luck.

GJ SD. Thanks again.

Slackware 8.1 [ 2.4.18 ]
nVidia GeForce2 GTS [ 1.0-4363 ]
XFree86 [ 4.2.0 ]

Did you install as “super user” (AKA root)

(g00se) #4

Sorry…I did not see your question regarding as to whom to install binary as.

Yes…I installed as root but I run the binary in /usr/local/games/enemy-territory/et as a normal user to play.

Good luck. :drink:

Wrong driver?

Looks like it’s loading a voodoo driver.

(Jahuu) #6

Yeah but why?

Do I have to install as “super user”

(MAN-AT-ARMS) #7

You need to use the driver for the ati card…

drivers are usually loaded in the /etc/modules.conf file

also check your XF86Config file…

You shouldn’t have to run the game as root.

Are you new to linux?

I also seem to have something wrong because ET refuses to run on my computer. i run debian unstable, kernel 2.4.20. Everything installs fine, then when I try to run the game, it appears as if the game loads, but then freezes my computer. My video card is geforce4 440mx with the latest nvidia drivers. Cant really think of what is wrong since the computer freezes everytime i try to run ET. Any help is appreciated

My problem has changed now. The situation in the beginning was that some of my old drivers from 3DFX Voodoo card were still ghosting around. The problem by the way was not with the X windows or anything else just ET. So I have now fixed/changed the problem and I am on it now. Currently I have some problems with hardware rendering and mesa.

By the way I have also win98 on my computer and the game works OK there. So I guess it is my linux drivers bugging around. (mainly mesa)

So I´ll post again when (not if) I get the game to work under debian linux.

still have not figured out what is the problem with ET. As usual ET keeps crashing XFree everytime I try to play it. Don’t really know where to start looking for the problem since the screen goes blank immediately after running ET.
